GunnyE9 I already do Gunny! This Outty is a beast! Once i get the 10hr break in period done, i'll be sure to let rip a little more ;-) One thing i've noticed tho was theres quite the clunk in the clutches when letting off the gas and getting back on the throttle. Its quite noticeable and annoying. I've read that an aftermarket primary should fix that... Did you notice the same when you had a stock clutch? Did it go away with your QSC primary? Oh and how did the QSC affect your engine braking?
Due North If I remember correctly I did have the clutch clunk, BUT, I only put about 125 miles on my 800 before I put the QSC on. So I really don't remember much about the stock primary. It was the clutch whine with the stock secondary that drove me nuts (on my 2011 800). With the QSC, you still may get a little clutch clunk, but nothing like what you are experiencing now. And with the QSC & the stock secondary, the engine breaking was awesome !!
Thanks for the reply Gunny. Ya that engine braking is something else, a little too strong in my opinion. Gotta really feather the throttle when my girl is with or else she bobs back and forth like a woodpecker. lol Does the QSC clutch help reduce the engine breaking then? I'm going to look into the QSC clutch tho, between the whine and clunk and probably bigger tires, i'll be needing it anyways.
Due North The engine breaking is too strong ?? Ummm, guess that depends on the terrain one rides in. For me, it's GREAT because of the steep declines we have out here. The more you ride thou, the more you'll learn how to control the throttle so your little one doesn't bob back & forth. Does the QSC help reduce some of the affects of the stock clutching engine breaking ... Yeah, I guess it does on the 1000, if I remember right, not so much on the 800. If you get the QSC clutch, you're gonna love it !! As a side note thou, if you're not crazy about strong engine breaking. Once you get some extra cash you might want to look into the STM Gen 2 Secondary (3 large rollers with a 50/40 Helix and mine is with the Engine Breaking cutouts. And I also have one w/o the engine breaking cutouts). I had that setup on the 800 (mostly in the winter with my tracks) & that's what I'm running on my 1000 (with the Engine Breaking Cutouts) & it is SOOOOO nice. !!!
GunnyE9 ooo Good to know Gunny! Just talked to the dealer yesterday about the QSC clutch and STM secondary. He said pretty much everything you did so i think that'll be the way to go. I also plan on running bigger tires (28" +) so messing with the clutch is definitely a must. In regards to the engine braking, don't get me wrong, i do like it for the really steep descents, but on flat ground if ones not careful with the throttle control, as soon as i let completely off it almost always throws the passenger forward (and myself). I think thats just it tho, is learning good throttle control. Thanks for the help bud!
Nice! Looks like you had a good first ride. Cool lookout at the end. Did you ever figure out what was walking on the trail? Cat, fox, . . . ? Thanx for sharin'!
Hey Mike ! Nice to see ya get out on the bike ! Sounds really good, Sure wish my Grizzly was a V-Twin ! When you first pulled off from that field onto that slow trail, I noticed you were in Hi, I Don't know much about Can Am but I know they can be hard on belts (Lots of power) to save your belt you should probably put it in Lo if going under like 30 klm/hr (thats how it is on my Grizzly anyway) You will love engine brake, it saves your brake pads big time ! You guys are quite a bit further into Spring/Summer then we are on the East coast ! Looked really nice there. at the FFW through boring stuff your bike sounded like a Whipper snipper not a V-Twin haha loved it. SO the Big Question is, How did the Wife like it? haha p.s. stop being such a chicken around heights haha
I meant 2wd Lo/Hi, Your owners manual should tell ya what speed you should run 2wd Lo in, my grizzly is under 30klm. Yeah I have 2 batteries for my GoPro and I always bring the charge cord with one of those things that go into the 12v output (Cig lighter spot) to charge it when I stop for lunch and stuff. I might even get a 3rd battery, cuz 2 JUST gets me through a trip. and No wonder you rocket forward you got 800 v-Twin !! I'm jealous hahaha Glad to hear your wife liked it too. Always a plus, I might need to break down and get a back seat for my gf too, it's not comfortable for her with my OGIO bag on back..
+CamoLot Rzr I can't remember exactly, but i know the proper break in recommendations are in the manual. iirc i think you want to break the belt in nice and easy, also refrain from full throttle usage for the first bit and a few other things.
+JC White I mounted it to the mouth hole on the helmet with a piece of plastic cutting board, backed with a washer and nut. super solid mount and gives the best view imo.
Nice Due North Guy !! You're gonna love the new 800 I'm sure !! LET'S RIDE !! WOO HOO !!!!
