That gap you left on the sides in the exact gap my firefish jumped out of. It was ~7am and I heard a splash and thought: nah I'm good, I put the lid on. The fish actually landed on top of the net and died. Bitter irony... I still have the photo of the fish on the net and I still believe that life was pulling a prank on me. >.<
If you plan on keeping small fish (IN THE TANK) I really recommend covering every gap greater than a few milimeters.

Felix Wow that’s horrible! Thank you so much for leaving this comment. I think I will need to make one a little bit bigger then! I’m probably safer now since I don’t have any tiny fish but knowing they can fit through that small of a gap is just not safe. Thanks so much Felix!

Do you think Firefish can even fit through that mesh as well? they are so tiny and thin.

Is there any screen mesh thats toxic for aquariums? Like the softer window screen mesh or where can i get a large roll of soft mesh?

Is there a mesh even smaller? I need one for my firefish goby tank so they can jump through the mesh.

Rimless tanks are beautiful... till you put a lid on it which is necessary.

Does anyone have any ideas how to make one of these for a bow front? Or any lid for a bow front? I’m struggling finding a way to make a lid for my tank as my old hood has to go.

Oh, that is a great question. I've never done it and would also like to hear this one answered!

@@MyFirstFishTank I ended up buying some cross stich plastic mesh (5 count) and made that into a lid. Although it only works on smaller tanks as it caves in the middle on larger ones. However my bow front is only a 10 gal so it was fine.

The screen looks good but watch out for any real small fish that are jumpers and can find a small opening they will liberate themselves from. Lol..

I think I might just have to remake it a bit better! But I should be okay for now since I don't think any small fishies can escape!

Lol if they fit through that ... Their Fate was already sealed
