If you want to enjoy the other nation as much as the horde you have to mod the game and remove least -25 aggressive expansion. Any nation should be able to do what the horde does, it's just so stupid that you can enjoy the game only with the hordes, all the others you have to make stupid claim and wait for the right CB. What makes it realistic that only the hordes can be unlawful and get away with it with no aggressive expansion, nonsense. Also notice that the fact the more dev a province have the most AE you get so it means overall that the least dev province are the most valuable for military strength as you get more land force limit easily, play with italy and no easy land force limit possible, horde it's too easy and not realistic. This is why Russia and hordes are OP, it's not just their idea it's the act that siberia have no dev, which means almost free force limit if you conquer it, same OP thing can be noticed if you play Aztec and conquer all south America, which is quite easy if you survive the first invasion.
Astrakhan is indeed the perfect vassal. Amazing mission tree and can in the majority of cases be immediately released upon reaching the area and vassalized, no need to do several wars just one. Also a great node for a vassal to have their capital in, for an overlord looking to expand eastwards. Perfect overlap with Novgorod vassal if you do it carefully.

The key is taking over goldmines, stating, converting and deving them. And ofcourse ming is your personal suggar daddy. Sometimes its worth to even keep them alive just for that sweet ducats.
another way is getting the 10% good producer modifier from quantity + trade, then build factories all over the place, I did that in africa with a custom horde starting in gold coast I was so rich because the factories gives you production and boost trade too, if you conquer China with those ideas you will be overwhelmingly rich, you can get to 100 ducats for trade and production each, and more if you keep building. Notice how more powerful the Ottomans are economically when they chose those ideas, it's a huge difference and you can easily get the bonus modifier from being world leader in each product.
