- When we spoke to bassist Endea Owens earlier this year, just before a virtual concert, she told us: "Every time I get to play music, I get giddy inside and I can't wait to go on this discovery. The only thing that would have made it better is the audience but even without that, I was thankful for the experience." On Sept. 25, the award-winning bassist - a member of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert's house band Stay Human, led by Jon Batiste - got her wish. Performing at Dizzy's Club with her band The Cookout, Owens served the in-person audience a piping hot set. Literally sparkling, Owens captivated the room with her masterful playing and exuberant charm. This selection from that performance features two of Owens' original compositions, "Feel Good" and "Cycles" as well as "Moanin'," a Bobby Timmons classic.

Endea Owens , I first heard you with Jon Batiste and I thought she is grooving. And then this.... blew me away. What a band, what a bass. Your tone is so great.
The tradition played very well, with creativity and soul.
I'm very proud to have photographed this extremely talented young lady during the early part of her musical journey in life.
Thank you, Endea.

Jaw dropped… just lovely interactions, the group play and dancing textures of a master.
Endea and her band were outstanding!! She’s a bad girl and I like the way she gives the “Bass a Taste” 🎻🎶🎵🎷🎺🎹🥁🎼

Absolutely beautiful!!! Thank you for the wonderful musicianship and obvious God given talent. Thank you.
Been listening to this all week, and today i came back for the Afro-dynamics with that Blade-esque touch of JOhn Davis
So glad I found this Ms. Owens. You are a mean grooving bass player. 💕🌷
nothing but pure professionals playing together note for note reminding many of us of Blue Note records. An experience for some who feel togetherness among the players. It exists here.
Just heard this tonight on WBGO Newark. Great stuff.
"So good! I love it... This is good for everything, study, work............. I really really love ittt
Continue!!"
John Davis is killing it!!!
I’m a follower of hers as well Straightahead who are women local jazz artist from the S.E. metropolitan region, they’re dynamic 🎉
Very soulful, the interaction is brillant. The 3 Hornplayers are realy cooking. They
play their behinds off with a great Sound.
The trombone is a showing a great bridge from the Ellington aera into the now. Thanks for sharing, my regards. Joachim 💘
wow good information
Great band! John Davis on drums is awesome. I really love his groove. I also really love the groove of Endea's bass playing. The whole band plays really well with a sound that is loose enough to make you want to move while maintaining perfect control despite feeling loose. Finally, Endea's compositions are very musical as well. I would love to see this band live!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just got wind of Cookout yesterday at Pappy Martin’s jazz festival. Now I’m a huge fan! Lineup was completely different, though. Still awesome.
Real jazz, real tunes.. no nonsence. Real players, Real skill. Thankyou...
Late to the party but it found me!
"moanin" so very nicely done by Endea Owes, she's universally grasping bass clef at its best.
👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 🔥 🔥 🔥 🎶 🎶 🎶 🌍 ☀️
Endea, the fiercest Lioness amongst the Lions without a doubt.
Exquis

Dope show, looks like a cool club, I was supposed to be there a few weeks ago but got sick :(
Like others, I was listening in the background and had to keep turning back to the screen! The whole performance was 🔥! So glad to have discovered your music.

Oh, well, . . . Yeah. Dayum.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So sad that the mainstream is not able to appreciate that. What quality of sound!
Meanwhile tailor swift took the first 10 places of top 10 music in the US. It's not her fault....
🎶🎶🎶🎶🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
4:48 I now know what made those noises on some of Charles Mingus albums.
Also, this is a great band!
Go Endea, go! I could listen to this lineup all dang day. Sooooooo gooooooood. Is this the Dizzy's that's in San Diego?
No. This is Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. A venue in NYC overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park. It’s a part of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
shades of oscar petiford, paul chambers and buster williams...continuing in the tradition!!
Is that a drain plunger on the trombone?
🤷♂️
Yes, it’s a plunger mute…taken from a toilet plunger. Very common for trombones and trumpets to get a wah-wah effect.
When you realise how Miles Davis never played chords….it hits you the power of a solo instrument. These guys are superb….Miles would have played with them.
😂
🤓🤗
Women who play bass are sexy
A wonderfull sextet leaded by a Lady
Nothing wrong with Endea but where is the NPR special of people like, Rodney Whitaker, Bob Hurst, Buster Williams, Steve Wilson, Gary Bartz, Billy Hart, Marcus Roberts, Louis Hayes?... don't forger about the elders.
those are not elders. lol. but i get what you're saying.
depend what u mean by ‘special people’
🏃
@@orangemoonglows2692 lolz not sure where they at either but we sure as heck need em

Yes, evening wear is suggestive. Be human. Not. Chumped.
Endea ❤️ but too many men on the stage 😬
So what?

Aucune originalité . De la poudre aux yeux et aux oreilles . Vous faites bien rigoler Miles mais pas trop longtemps en fait 😅
