    Nice coverage of this shot, guys. I think it is worth mentioning that the topspin lob is a great shot to use in doubles when receiving a 2nd serve that you have time to set up for. Launching it over the server partner's head can result in a winner if the server can't get over quick enough to take it in the air. Even if he does, this will discourage the opposing net player from getting too aggressive and crowding the net.

    working off backfoot, dipping the racquet well below the ball, 6-12 big swing, finishing much higher

    I use the topspin lob as an approach to surprise the receiver. Like a teleportation technique. Because they are so focus on putting the ball back in play. perfectly in a reaching position

    I use it now as a regular ground stroke too! Opponents hate it

    When people are ready to lob, they usually face slice or flat volley, not the high-top spin tosses shown in the video, which should be attacked by drives (swing cross the body). The topspin tosses make top spin lobs much easier.

      The SLOB (slice lob) is an effective way to lob as well. If you are back (perhaps in dubs) you’re 100% correct in that the lob should be driven however it's classified as a lob because it's going over someones head. In that case the topspin makes the lob much more difficult to defend than the slice due to the ball moving away from the person at net once it has bounced. Appreciate the feedback and you watching the vid!

    You said that you shouldn't use this when moving forward. What kind of lob should you hit off a weak, low bouncing 2nd serve in doubles if the opposing net player is up close to the net? I don't want to try to drive past him since he's so close to the net so I usually end up either slicing cross court or trying to roll my backhand topspin. I'd love to be able to lob over the net man instead

      maxpowers3732 great question. In this situation you’d be best suited to hit a slice lob (slob). With this particular shot you’re using more feel and able to work the ball with better direction regardless of the pace on the ball. The topspin is difficult because it simple requires hitting off the back foot which is tough to do while moving forward. A slice lob can be used regardless of where the weight transfer is. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. 🍻

    Will the backhand topspin lob be similar? I find my backhand lobs much worse than my forehand lobs as well as less depth and topspin.

      That's a great question. If you play with a one-hander it will be similar but due to the lack of flexibility through external rotation it's important to really exaggerate the vertical swing patch on the ball. The THB is substantially easier, just focus on using the non-dominant hand more through the stroke. Hope this helps!

    what grip and what racquet face angle when hitting the ball?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад

      Hi Fred, the topspin forehand can be hit with any grips but is often most effective when a semi-western or eastern grip is utilized. The topsin is produced by the trajectory of the racket to the ball and the steep ascension uop the ball. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    Isn't this rather simplistic? With the footwork that you're advocating, you're hardly disguising and almost telegraphing what you're about to do. Far better to take bigger steps back to set up a better posture and play a top spin lob with disguise to fool your opponent. If not, then a "SLOB" is again a far better disguise. On that note, looking forward to your SLOB video :))

      Solid observation Chairman. With the suggested playing level starting at 3.0 for the instruction, it was simply a introduction to the topspin lob. Disguise will be a huge function of the topspin lob as a player becomes more advanced. Thanks for he feedback!

    This is not the top spin lop I had been taught by usta(uspta?) years back. It should be a variation of stroke with higher curve but not really a lop.
