Whilst the scanner does this when searching through the bands I wasn't certain it would show such when using the Waterfall feature. For me personally I'm happy they included that as part of the display when using said feature.
Have you found that this is the most effective way to find unknown radio frequencies on the SDS100/200? I should be getting my SDS100 in the next couple days and can't wait to get it all set up. There's at least 1 set of channels (potentially one single digital channel) I'll be wanting to monitor that I know is active, but not advertised anywhere on Radio Reference local to where I am here in the US. I'm not sure if the channel/s are encrypted, but that's what I'm wanting to find out once I potentially discover them via the waterfall. I'm guessing they're in the 800mhz range, but they really could be anywhere and I know they're pretty active. If the channel/s are encrypted, then I know I'm out of luck, but it'd be a neat experiment to try and discover what I'm looking for. Do you have any other tips for discovering unlisted frequencies using the waterfall feature, aside from keeping your span at 2.88mhz?
What am i likely to be able to monitor up here in rural ne vic, love the scañner but i fear i chose a pretty remote location for vhf uhf? Cheers brenton vk3cm
G'day to you, thank you for your video.. I have the usds100 do you have any idea if I Can get the firmware. I'm a bit nervous about doing it. Also can you please let me know of the cost please Aussies dollars.. Also what version of the Sentinel software should I use? Is it the same as the Yankee version? Sorry for all the questions I'm new at the usds100.. HooRoo.. 👍
Hello, the firmware update is for US production units only, so that is the SDS100 and SDS200. The Australian USDS100 and European SDS100E and SDS200E units are unable to have the firmware at present. You'll have to wait a bit longer unfortunately to see if the relevant Uniden companies can come to an agreement and if the local Uniden entity thinks the exercise is cost effective.
@@Pumper50 OK thanks for your reply.. Yes it seems very much one sided very favourable for the U.S. & Canada. It's very unfortunate that we in Australia & Europe miss out on the zip/postcode programming.. Never mind like I said I'm still learning how to do things with this scanner.. 👍 Cheers
Does it come with a firmware update? How would I get this? I have SDS200 up here in Utah. And I'm guessing they offer some form or tutorial or downloadable PDF manual to help learn it. Warm down there about now? Waiting for your Aussie open tennis matches. While we freeze to death up here it's something to watch.
Hi - Update your Sentinel Software first, then connect up your scanner and do a firmware update. Purchase an upgrade key either from Uniden directly, Scanner Master or Bearcat Warehouse then enter the supplied key via your scanners Menu system. Our Summer has been 'interesting' of late and bump in for the Australian Open is well under way.
@@Pumper50 Okay thanks, I'll do that. When I first got my SDS200 I could not update the firmware or frequency database. Found out eventually that I had to log into my router Wifi firmware and reduce my firewall from it's highest setting!! Then I have to go in and put it back on high again once updates are done. Frustrating but bearable!!
@@Pumper50oh we have to do the key like updating to dpmr and other modes in uk this means via uniden Australia do u have direct link, have to get the radio details correct I wasted money on one sds100 on dpmr as put wrong details in and they won't give money back for errors, so had to enter details on again and pay again
Ok just been told by those involved in eu, that looking for a quarter 2 release for UK so April at earliest at the moment, then of course uniden Australia will be where we pay for the key as usual for the eu models
Firmware update is main thing I want, the waterfall I dobt see a massive need for I know where signals are searching and close call etc, and what I've uploaded to my systems so I'll be wanting one if 200s updated firmware befire I decide to go update to waterfall
Yes, however only if the span is 2.88MHz or less, anything over that and you need to press hold to hear the detected audio. I mention that in the video.
Problem. Is audio on vhf air am is very weak and low on the 2.88 and lower it's best always to press hold where it boosts the audio on every span, just tried it, muffled and low on my local approach, then hit hold and it's nice and loud
Hi my name is Donald and I am thinking of getting a sds200. I have seen people say that the sds200 will not work in Los angles because of encryption. I live in Riverside 92505 a part of L.A. I think. I am new to this so thank you for all the help. I have no idea what add on to get or if they will work in my town or if I even need them. Thanks again Donald.
Hi Donald, I'm located in Australia so can't really attest to US Systems. I'd suggest visiting the forums located at forums.radioreference.com/ where there is a huge US focus. I'm sure you'd find a few helpful folks over there to seek advice from. Best of luck!
Neat how it detects modes!

Thanks for putting this out there.
