I'd assume that there are a fair number of people in this community that appreciates Mythology. It has been a while since I read anything specifically about this subject. I tend to spend most of my time with psychology and philosophy.
I love your interjections of your own thoughts on the subject throughout the video. Too many react channels just watch the whole video without adding any value to it whatsoever. My favorite Vsauce video is called “Did The Past Really Happen?” It covers a wide range of mind-blowing things like Last Thursdayism and Occam’s Razor. Definitely recommend that one.
Of course mythology. When I was in elementary school, one of our regular substitute teachers was a lady who was born in Greece; at the end of any day where she taught us she'd tell us a story from Greek mythology. It was amazing, one of my favourite memories from school.

I absolutely love mythology, whether it's Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Canaanite, Mesopotamian, Native American, Mayan, Incan, Polynesian, etc. It's really interesting that mythology is explainable by psychology, and Vice Versa (Jungian theory of Mythology). From stories of cosmic genesis, to God/gods crafting us in his/their image, to our struggles in our humble beginnings, to our hopes and aspirations for humanity's future, and to the Eschaton (the end of humanity's world), if there even is an end. Mythology says a lot about humanity's collective psychology, who we are, where we come from, and how our perspective is formed.

History of the Earth channel is fantastic and I think you'll love that. Also history of the universe is great at explaining physics for the general audience. If you're interested in that kind of thing.
Immortality is kind of the holy grail to me. There is nothing I find more joy in than just seeing history unfold and witnessing the path humanity is taking. I would hate for death to prevent me from seeing that. On the mental health problems a immortal human would probably face I honestly think its a bit of a weak mindset. Yes it would be a big struggle. But I wouldnt overestimate the power the brain and weird thoughts have on you. After all you have eternity to come to terms with it. Unless it literally drives you into suicide I reckon that eventually you would find your place in your immortal life and start enjoying it a ton.

I see his ending as an attempt to counter the "smallness" effect that we often get when thinking about the universe by presenting us with information that allows us to relate to the universe not as an insignificant being but as a significant one. Would I want to live forever? In the distant future, human beings will have evolved into a totally different species than we are today. I would probably find them so incompatibly different that I would not want to live long enough to be the only one left of my kind surrounded by nothing but these "beings" so different than myself that I am lonely among many, who would see me as primitive and repulsive. But maybe a few hundred years would be fun as long as I can remain healthy and "young" enough to enjoy it. You know, on second thought, for all the magnificent things that I could witness, there will be monumentally horrific things (there is a savage side to humanity and to nature) that I would witness or have to live through. So, maybe not. I have lived through some great stuff already.

I have this book on mythology ranging from all Over the world and just find it fascinating how the human understanding of our world has changed over the years. Though I'm still perplexed and still finding out what inspired scary stories and myths in the African region.
I remember reading, several years back, that even if death from old age, disease, or other internal sources was completely eliminated, that average human lifespan would only be about 1,500 years, simply due to the law of averages catching up with us, and our having a fatal accident of some kind. So in the end, I don't think even having our consciousness transferred into a new body, or even a computer, has a chance of making us "immortal". ...especially since the entire universe is likely going to come to an end eventually.Oh, and yes, I very much like studying old myths and legends. Especially the Germanic ones, since my paternal grandparents were German.
if given the chance to live "forever" i would absolutely take it. but given we know our universe is destined to end somehow, my interest in being alive that long is purely to see what that end looks like. I am completely aware that involves an absurdly long period of time in complete darkness but i would literally wait it out just to see what the universe would look like. and if somehow something crazy happened like a new big bang or something id be satisfied enough to accept death. so i wouldnt want to actually live infinitely just as long as the universe itself

I already know about the Milky Way hurtling towards the Andromeda Galaxy but now I wonder if we're moving towards AG or AG is moving towards us. Maybe both.
I'm definitely into mythology, Mainly Greek, also bits of Roman and Norse, it's fascinating to me. Seeing the way that those societies made sense of the world by giving a name to things like lightning, the oceans, mountains etc. How they turned quite normal and natural things (for us modern folk anyway) into gods is really interesting and the different relationships between them. You really do get a sense of how they'd sit around a fire and teach their children those myths to explain how the planet and everything in it (from hills to emotions to weather) formed. I obviously don't believe in the myths myself, but I find the idea of it really intriguing. Much more than just having one God of everything, I think the individual gods with their own responsbilities and personalities and stories and relationships with one another paints a great picture. Also I'm sure I've heard about Mt Rushmore surviving that long and it throws up an interesting question. Say a future civilisation of whatever we become in that time or even aliens arrive here, millions of years from now and they discover Mt Rushmore. There's no internet, no surviving books, no cities, simply no trace we were ever here, will they assume they were our gods, like with mythology? When every piece of evidence of our existence is gone except a big depiction of four faces without any name or record of why, what will they think?
Fun fact the Swedish and icelandic called it winterway or winterstreet and was used to calculate the coming of winter, for crops in the spring probably, im guessing why but long winter no food?
There is a novel called "Marooned in Real Time" about a future where people skip forward through time, sometimes by millions of years. It's a sequel to another book, "The Peace War", but you might not absolutely need to read that first book

scientists said that nothing would be able to grow in Chernobyl for the first 75 years, but new foliage began to spring up within a year. i've heard that a new fungus was discovered in the region, one that feeds of radioactive particles. the area will be inhabitable sooner than we know. nature is just mysterious and amazing that way.
I wouldn't say I'm into mythology but I do love hearing about it, simply never been something I've given much thought myself. I don't think I'd want immortality to around for any of those events, although they do sound very cool. But I do feel that at least in terms of space we're living in a relatively quiet time. Yes we have better telescopes and have sent missions out to space to do things that people of the past probably never even dreamt of but for the common human... we haven't really had the chance to see a great comet or discover that more planets exist in our solar system, if anything we lost Pluto! And at least in this part of the world, 2024 is probably the only chance in my lifetime to ever see a total solar eclipse without travelling somewhere! But while I might have missed a lot in the past and likely to miss a lot in the future, there is some consolation that many before and after us have the same experience about not being around today.
you should watch the documentary about the stray dogs that are living and some thriving in the contamination zone around Chernobyl. some register high levels of radiation while some don't. they talk of other animals but mainly dogs. I found it to be interesting
Regardless of problems, I would definitely want to live forever because life is all there is. I don't want to die and then not exist anymore, as that would mean that I would become completely unaware that I ever lived at all, or that anything ever was. At the moment of death, for you, you might as well never have been born. Every experience you've ever had vanishes. It's a fact of reality that I am forced to deal with, and I don't expect it to change, but I would definitely like it to and would take immortality in an instant if it was available. I'd steal it if I had to. In my opinion, the idea of existing forever, no matter how bad or possibly lonely, is better than being erased. Even if I was the only one left in the end, the universe could continue to exist through me.
It depends on the life you've lived. If you life is full of events and memories you cherish, I feel that you're more apt to accept death more gracefully. If your life is full of regrets and missed chances, it's harder to accept your own passing. I just don't like change, that's all. But change is inevitable so it's something I've learned to accept, if not enjoy. Give me a few thousand years and decent health and I'll eventually live enough to accept my own passing I think. Unfortunately, that's unlikely so I'll just try to accept it as it comes - so to speak. Unless something truly amazing happens in the next, oh, 40 years or so. I figure I have that much time at least.
I think I would want to live forever, i'm curious about how society and technology progresses over millenia, how society might collapse and then rebuild again, how knowledg is lost and relearned, or maybe forgotten forever and then humanity comming up with entirely new marvels given enough time. I'd collect all of this information, all of the stories and myths and legends and where they come from, how they might have been altered trough centuries of word of mouth. And i'd archive everything. This would be my purpose if I were immortal. But I would want to have a way out though, otherwise a blessing could suddenly become a curse.
I'd love to see you react to some of Isaac Arthur's videos. I find them fascinating as they cover so many aspects of space. He includes human social/technical development, possible evolution of governments, and future technologies. All good stuff but they can be a little long for a one episode react.

division by 10 can be done by most with very little effort. first block 1993 then one every 10 years means every year that ends in a 3 gets a block. this was uploaded in 2023 so it got a block. this year does not get a block. everybody should be able to figure that out instantly.
You know what’s a great video? Michael and the guy from Myth Busters have a few. There’s a shorter one about what’s on Michaels work desk but my favorite is the one where they make a kendama (or however it’s spelled) together. Though it’s probably too long to react to.

I see his ending as an attempt to counter the "smallness" effect that we often get when thinking about the universe by presenting us with information that allows us to relate to the universe not as an insignificant being but as a significant one.
Would I want to live forever? In the distant future, human beings will have evolved into a totally different species than we are today. I would probably find them so incompatibly different that I would not want to live long enough to be the only one left of my kind surrounded by nothing but these "beings" so different than myself that I am lonely among many, who would see me as primitive and repulsive. But maybe a few hundred years would be fun as long as I can remain healthy and "young" enough to enjoy it. You know, on second thought, for all the magnificent things that I could witness, there will be monumentally horrific things (there is a savage side to humanity and to nature) that I would witness or have to live through. So, maybe not. I have lived through some great stuff already.

I've been watching Vsauce for about 10 years. His videos are very thought provoking and insightful. I wouldn't want to live forever in the physical sense but I would like to experience what my progeny is living through from whatever space-time dimension I end up in (assuming that's what happens). I strive to make the most out of my time here and attempt to leave the world better than how I found it.

I have this book on mythology ranging from all Over the world and just find it fascinating how the human understanding of our world has changed over the years. Though I'm still perplexed and still finding out what inspired scary stories and myths in the African region.

I remember reading, several years back, that even if death from old age, disease, or other internal sources was completely eliminated, that average human lifespan would only be about 1,500 years, simply due to the law of averages catching up with us, and our having a fatal accident of some kind.
So in the end, I don't think even having our consciousness transferred into a new body, or even a computer, has a chance of making us "immortal".
...especially since the entire universe is likely going to come to an end eventually.Oh, and yes, I very much like studying old myths and legends. Especially the Germanic ones, since my paternal grandparents were German.

if given the chance to live "forever" i would absolutely take it.
but given we know our universe is destined to end somehow, my interest in being alive that long is purely to see what that end looks like. I am completely aware that involves an absurdly long period of time in complete darkness but i would literally wait it out just to see what the universe would look like.
and if somehow something crazy happened like a new big bang or something id be satisfied enough to accept death. so i wouldnt want to actually live infinitely just as long as the universe itself

I already know about the Milky Way hurtling towards the Andromeda Galaxy but now I wonder if we're moving towards AG or AG is moving towards us. Maybe both.
I'm definitely into mythology, Mainly Greek, also bits of Roman and Norse, it's fascinating to me. Seeing the way that those societies made sense of the world by giving a name to things like lightning, the oceans, mountains etc. How they turned quite normal and natural things (for us modern folk anyway) into gods is really interesting and the different relationships between them. You really do get a sense of how they'd sit around a fire and teach their children those myths to explain how the planet and everything in it (from hills to emotions to weather) formed. I obviously don't believe in the myths myself, but I find the idea of it really intriguing. Much more than just having one God of everything, I think the individual gods with their own responsbilities and personalities and stories and relationships with one another paints a great picture.
Also I'm sure I've heard about Mt Rushmore surviving that long and it throws up an interesting question. Say a future civilisation of whatever we become in that time or even aliens arrive here, millions of years from now and they discover Mt Rushmore. There's no internet, no surviving books, no cities, simply no trace we were ever here, will they assume they were our gods, like with mythology? When every piece of evidence of our existence is gone except a big depiction of four faces without any name or record of why, what will they think?

scientists said that nothing would be able to grow in Chernobyl for the first 75 years, but new foliage began to spring up within a year. i've heard that a new fungus was discovered in the region, one that feeds of radioactive particles. the area will be inhabitable sooner than we know. nature is just mysterious and amazing that way.
I wouldn't say I'm into mythology but I do love hearing about it, simply never been something I've given much thought myself. I don't think I'd want immortality to around for any of those events, although they do sound very cool. But I do feel that at least in terms of space we're living in a relatively quiet time. Yes we have better telescopes and have sent missions out to space to do things that people of the past probably never even dreamt of but for the common human... we haven't really had the chance to see a great comet or discover that more planets exist in our solar system, if anything we lost Pluto! And at least in this part of the world, 2024 is probably the only chance in my lifetime to ever see a total solar eclipse without travelling somewhere! But while I might have missed a lot in the past and likely to miss a lot in the future, there is some consolation that many before and after us have the same experience about not being around today.
you should watch the documentary about the stray dogs that are living and some thriving in the contamination zone around Chernobyl. some register high levels of radiation while some don't. they talk of other animals but mainly dogs. I found it to be interesting
I am into mythology I think it’s very interesting
Regardless of problems, I would definitely want to live forever because life is all there is. I don't want to die and then not exist anymore, as that would mean that I would become completely unaware that I ever lived at all, or that anything ever was. At the moment of death, for you, you might as well never have been born. Every experience you've ever had vanishes. It's a fact of reality that I am forced to deal with, and I don't expect it to change, but I would definitely like it to and would take immortality in an instant if it was available. I'd steal it if I had to. In my opinion, the idea of existing forever, no matter how bad or possibly lonely, is better than being erased. Even if I was the only one left in the end, the universe could continue to exist through me.

It depends on the life you've lived. If you life is full of events and memories you cherish, I feel that you're more apt to accept death more gracefully. If your life is full of regrets and missed chances, it's harder to accept your own passing.
I just don't like change, that's all. But change is inevitable so it's something I've learned to accept, if not enjoy. Give me a few thousand years and decent health and I'll eventually live enough to accept my own passing I think. Unfortunately, that's unlikely so I'll just try to accept it as it comes - so to speak. Unless something truly amazing happens in the next, oh, 40 years or so. I figure I have that much time at least.

I think I would want to live forever, i'm curious about how society and technology progresses over millenia, how society might collapse and then rebuild again, how knowledg is lost and relearned, or maybe forgotten forever and then humanity comming up with entirely new marvels given enough time. I'd collect all of this information, all of the stories and myths and legends and where they come from, how they might have been altered trough centuries of word of mouth. And i'd archive everything. This would be my purpose if I were immortal. But I would want to have a way out though, otherwise a blessing could suddenly become a curse.
I'd love to see you react to some of Isaac Arthur's videos. I find them fascinating as they cover so many aspects of space.
He includes human social/technical development, possible evolution of governments, and future technologies.
