My wife, daughter, and I took a trip to Costa Rica about 3 years ago. Spent some time in San Jose, then to Manuel Antonio, and on to Arenal. Afterwards we went to the Nicoya Peninsula on the Punta Arenas ferry. While in the Montezuma/Cabuya area we happened upon a road with a sign for Santa Teresa. It happened to be this road, and we were in a rented Toyota Yaris 5 speed. There was no signage warning that it was a 4wd road, and as it became more hilly and rocky we figured it out, however, we kept going and made it through. Had a flat tire in the process though.
