Earlier in my Christian Life (~50yrs), anything that smacked of “textual” or “criticism” of any sort was thought to be an attack on Inerrancy, and an attack on the Faith, itself. Lots of groups had lots of reasons to keep their members “locked-in” to traditional translation[s] and text[s], but thankfully (if not always perfectly) a growing number of skilled stalwarts, who respect the integrity of Scripture while recognizing the realities of transmission, have taken Bible Students “ad fontes”, back to the source. This is not questioning God’s Word, it is seeking to bow before it in a meaningful way. One of the ways we are commanded to love the Lord our God is with all of our minds, as well as all of our hearts. We have an embarrassingly wealth of ancient manuscript evidence, the envy of any and all ancient literature. This is a good thing, as is being a faithful workman in God’s Word.

Thank you for these videos, exactly what I need getting into biblical Greek, I’ll be checking out your program soon since it sounds like a great way to keep track of my learning progress and not get confused along the way. God bless brother!

A great second or third book to read after reading An Introduction to the Greek New Testament by Dirk Jongkind and The Text of the New Testament by Bruce Metzger and Bart Ehrman is the book Myths and Mistakes in New Testament Textual Criticism edited by Elijah Hixson and Peter Gurry.
Also, Gurry's book Scribes and Scripture is worth reading. It's a popular level introduction to how we got the Bible. I think it's even more introductory than Jongkind's book, though it's also longer than Jongkind's book since it includes other things like interesting historical stories and suchlike.

Translation is an in-depth process, but I didn't realize how deep. I started learning Greek with the motivation to better understand the Bible. The journey has added a few more motivations, textual criticism being one of them.

I have read Dirk Jongkind’s book. It is easy to read and well worth getting if you are new to text criticism. Also Dirk Jongkind has several RUclips videos on the same topic. I highly recommend them. They are especially good if you get the Tyndale Greek New Testament. He was the main editor.

Thanks for the video Darryl - I bought the book when it was released, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a great low cost introduction to not only the THGNT, but modern Evangelical Textual Criticism in general (and this coming from a TR fan!)

One of my first introductions to textual criticism was *The King James Only Controversy* by James White. Unfortunately, it is a little out of date with the ECM stuff that's been coming out.

    1. Why did the women go to the tomb?
    2. Who/what did they encounter there?
    3. How did the tomb become opened?
    4. What did the women see in the tomb?
    5. What are the women instructed to do?
    6. What did they do upon leaving there?
    7. Does Jesus appear to these women?

Part 2: "POLITICALLY CORRUPT?: The Tainting of Ancient New Testament Texts" of J. Ed Komoszewski, M. James Sawyer, and Daniel B. Wallace's Reinventing Jesus (Kregel Publications, 2006) gives a good basic apologetically focused introduction to textual criticism. Also James R. White's The King James Only Controversy (Bethany House, 1995), which is more technical and requires knowledge of Greek in some parts.
