Honestly I'm just glad that this whole thing was actually real and not a figment of my imagination
That’s how I feel about this whole channel
Fucking same
These dead ass felt like a fever dream
For some reason in my grandma house there's a Panda Funkey over the fridge
Damn this is sad, our childhood was awesome and they really dont got cool shit like we use to get..let alone dope memories
So it wasn't a fever-dream, it was just something from the early 2000's. Yet again.
honestly, 2003- 2007 was just one long fever dream
@@powerthunfischdesdonners3086 I was born during a fever dream and probably conceived then too.
I remember seeing this at the toy store, mom wouldn't let me buy it. Only vaguely remembered that white character and a screenshot of the game. Super strange to now see what it actually all was.
aren't they the same thing?
Well, You've just unearthed a hidden memory.
He's unearthed my hidden childhood
that was my exact reaction! watching this was so bizarre, because I genuinely feel like I've had every single even remote memory of this game erased from my mind. I genuinely feel weird looking at this, not even joking.
I got one from Wendys when I was 5 and I wondered what they were called for YEARS
Same! I remember almost being addicted to this lmao
You know how when you remember something you're more likely to just be remembering the last time you remembered it?
This is not one of those times
U.B Funkeys: We can't have violence as a mechanic, this is a children's game!
Also U.B Funkeys: *Lets the Flesh World™ be a thing*
im gonna avoid the flesh zone lol
Also the sprocket/ hidden realm fighting mini games:
im here after resurfacing my memories of this, and honestly i think the flesh zone was what created my interest in horror and weird genres of games, film and art lmao
Racer x had boxing mini games
I remember asking for this for Christmas and dying from happiness. My parents even kept acting like I wasn't going to get it and I kept saying "that's okay I understand." While being really sad but didn't want my parents to have hurt feelings if they couldn't buy it. Crazy how much fun this was as a kid. Wonder if mine still works, I have them somewhere I'm sure of it
Damn u a good man with your parents
Man this game was best fun I had. I setup my old pc again to see if still worked and bought figures from other sellers. I always was like... if only I had the figure for this portal
i still have mine somewhere too. Might bust them out for a session
I think about UB Funkies more often than I’d like to admit.

I legit waited for this video for months. So dont worry, you arent alone.

When I had these, I would put my Funkies on the HUB thing and wiggle them around to glitch it a bit and unlock Funkies I didn't have.
Holy shit you could do that?
Antonio Trejo yeah it was fun, it also worked for mte w some magnets
I've heard you could also lick the bottom of them to unlock different skins.

I completely forgot that I used to do this 😂
Wow, I genuinely did not know that.

How, You genuinely did not know gaming.
He did it..
amazing how the toys are so insanely neat and appealing in their aesthetics while the game itself... uses Comic Sans. different design teams?
what are you insinuating about comic sans?
It’s supposed to be easier for people with dyslexia to read so that might be why…
@@aubreyh1930 Oh, that's cool, then! Thanks for the info!
@@aubreyh1930 Except that's not actually true, it helps some people with dyslexia read but that also applies to a number of fonts and there's little overlap between their cases, not to mention there's fonts designed explicitly for dyslexia that work much better and for a wider variety of cases. Comic Sans is used in older websites because it's designed to be easily readable for CRT monitors specifically.
the use of comic sans created a whole aesthetic in itself
I had these when I was young....like, I didn't have access to the internet when I had them. I remember how these fuckers TASTE dude wtf.
How they taste ? I bet they taste funky.

wait what
Was this by accident or...
@𝑩𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒔𝒔 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 as somebody who did that back in the day i can confirm it just changed the skin, however there were ways to properly switch them around i think
Huh?
These 2000s toys really make me think about Aqua Pets. Does anyone remember those from the 2000s?
I think I know what you mean... I had a Spongebob one!
Biiitch! I have lived frustrated with that since like 4th grade cuz I had one. I took it to school (cuz I've always been a fucking show off) and I went to the bathroom with it (I guess I was scared someone would steal it if I left it in the classroom lol) and it just banished. I was alone in the bathroom and when I turned to pick it up it wasn't there, it didn't fall into the trash can, it wasn't behind the toilet or in it :(
I do. I has one. It went off lol
I still have a few Aquapets. The earlier "unintended" shaped ones have sadly got algae in them so it's just a watery brown dome with the pet inside.
Oh yeah that thing recall
i genuinely haven't thought about u.b. funkeys in almost a decade, despite loving them to death as a kid, so seeing this video was like a nostalgic slap in the face. thank you for making this video, if it weren't for you i probably would've forgotten about these little dudes forever
I HAVE TRIED TO FIND THIS TOY FOR THE LONGEST TIME, AND THEN OUT OF THE BLUE IT GET RECOMMENDED..... never have i been so lit in my life
I’m here after googling it trying to find out what they were called I’m so gassed 😭
When I was a kid I thought the F word was “Funk” so when these toys came out I was highly offended lmao
Funk off
What the Funk did you just funky say about me you little britches?
That's funking funny
Dang what the Funk?
i had to say “Fun Keys” bc when i was a kid it sounded like i was saying “U B Fucking”
ok real talk for a game targeted at stupid 10 year olds, knightmare rift had some pretty existential stuff like how the soldier guys were there because "There's no knightmare worse than war" and how the sprockets were there because the junkyard was an area made of dead and abandoned dreams.
Yeah, lore wise the Dream States were pretty cool, even with the limits the development team had on how dark they could get with the story. Particularly speaking about the Nightmare Rift, you had...
- *Snipe:* personifications of the horrors of war
- *Sprocket:* old robots that represented old, broken, dying, and dead dreams.
- *Ptep:* mummies that guard what little secrets they have left. If memory serves, Marshall says "they guard the secrets that are no longer secret. Or maybe the secret is that there are no more secrets left to guard."
- *Vlurp:* vampires that are ironically peaceful and just misunderstood.
The Daydream Oasis had interesting stuff too, but I think the stark contrast between the Nightmare Rift and everything else made them really stick out.
I know I played doom back then and for some reason this rift still haunts me to this day.
@@flarestorm9417 Daydream Oasis literally had hippies who did shrooms and smelled like pot. In a kid's game.

I remember taking the base thing apart so i could wiggle the figures around on the metal pins and unlock funkeys i didn't actually own, good times.
*you wouldn’t Hotwire a ub funkey*
Apparently licking the bottom could do that too
You could also put unrelated metal objects on it as long as it had something magnetic near it. I remember I only had like 7 funkies but I hotwired at least a dozen more into the game using all the above described methods. I was convinced I flesh zone was from my imagination …
YOOOOOOOO I THOUGHT I IMAGINED THIS, YOU'VE UNLOCKED A LOST PART OF MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
Forgot about these but damn that kid going “HUHH my god” at that twist ending no one saw coming cracked me up
Holy crap I had sooo many of these when I was younger and could almost never get them to work. This is a major nostalgia hit. Again.
Honestly, i just tought that i was the only one playing it 😂
Same i couldnt never work them
I still have the fish one in my shelf, I would probably have bought more but they mostly didn’t work and it didn’t want to save my progress so I abandoned it
I never had problems with getting them to work. But I absolutely loved these so much.
Kinda funny how these toys in the early 2000s predate Skylanders.
This was one of the first to implement that. There had been zero innovation in games since before the early 2000s beyond graphics and pricetag.
@@electricfishfan That's true. It'll be interesting to see what comes out with noneuclidean games making a big rise too. It's just a strange era where you have the last people before technology having kids. Strange thinking people will grow up hearing about video games before they were even born.
I love the fact that Cube World cubes are purchasable as “crib” decoration. Cool detail.
I remember having these, I barely played the actual game to instead play with the figures. At the time I was way too scared to play the game because of the enemies lmao
Aww, I getcha! XD My sister and I played with them, too, pretty sure. She loved Twinx, I think was the name, and I loved Scratch! The enemies always terrified me, too XD Like, if I saw one of them, I'd just try my absolute best to run away from them as quickly and best as I could
I remember the enemies, they used to make that freaky noise whenever they showed up. Such a fun game, if only they kept it. They were so cute, and the whole USB thing was such a neat idea! Today, they could be upgraded into the PC. And i totally remember that just could not understand what to do! ^^" XD
I always just ran to the closest building possible (that and just not spend much time outside)
the enemies were the WORST part of the game, I remember pretty well being scared bc of them and they were more faster than you and there was no way out!
I spent WAYYYY too much money on these
Same here
Please do a video on this I want to know your experience
Oh no it's vailskibutt
I had to have everyone. Literally all
I can relate. One of the many toy collections I used to have as a kid.
Before cancelation there was supposed to be another tie in expansion, a set based on DC Comics. There was going to be Funkeys based on Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and the Joker.
Also the last expansion, Paradox Green went through some sort of development hell or something. It took forever to finally release, most players thinking the game was unofficially dead until the figures started popping up in stores. The only problem being that only the Very Rare variants of the figures could be found for some reason. Common ans Uncommon versions of the Paradox Green Funkeys just dont exist, or if they do then they never left the warehouse.
Aside from that, other things that were canceled were Adventure Packs for the Speed Racer, Dream State, and Hidden Realm expansions. Adventure Packs being bundled (usually store exclusive if memory serves) with NPC characters such as that expansion's respective guide character (Marshall for example), the expansion's antagonist, along with their henchmen and a random Funkey from that set.
We know they existed at some point and were intended to be sold to the public is because there exists pictures taken at toy conventions of those figures along with some files in the game that suggest those figures were playable
I have a complete speed racer set
@@dondon4720 As do I lol. Minus That other version of Speed Racer and Taejo that were never released
I actually completed the set thanks to a 99c store of all things. The Speed Racer funkeys were just dumped there, I guess there were really trying to get rid of em haha
i would legit kill someone for that Marshall prototype
thanku for this bit of trivia, still upset this got thrown to the curb. Would be so cool if someone could get a server running for this (similar to Toontown rewritten and club penguin rewritten), unlikely though.

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING GAMEPLAY. I played this game so much as a child i to this day remember many parts of the map vividly. I hope i find some of my old funkeys one day but i have moved several times sense then and may have lost the funkeys. One thing i remember about the game was that after i had got about 10 funkeys only about 5 of them worked, the others simply didnt spawn or refused to work unless i unlocked a different area prior. Also fun fact Speed Racer was in the game as a figure and a special speed way zone in the top right of the city by a wishing well i think.
I think the art style is awesome and way more detailed than I would expect for this kind of game. Like it’s literally art. It’s not even the type of art style I’m usually drawn too, but the attention to detail and colors make me really like it.
I was OBSESSED with these things as a kid, so seeing them again is really giving me whiplash
I still have a shoebox full of these in storage because my mom thinks they'll be worth something someday.
Why do you always manage to talk about the most specific, obscure parts of my childhood. Are you stalking me?
I used to collect them adamantly and also had some of the variant colors. It was my favorite thing to play as a kid until some of the newer funkies (one with a jet pack I remember) would not scan in no matter how hard I tried for some reason that made me quit.
I even had NPC ones and I think my parents even have my old tote full of them
I remember having this. I also remember that half the funkies I owned didn’t fucking work, and I never actually got any new ones, so I was condemned to the same few areas of the game forever.

Ok
Does anyone remember this?
It was an online world created by Mcdonals with an island, you could play games alone or with people, if I remember you could choose some characters, I think two of them were a robot and another a monkey (the last one I'm doubting it)

Well it was a shame i never got interested in it but i remember the Codes would unlock gear and stuff for your character. That was like Micro transactions before they even existed.
Is it me or does the design of the funkies look cool?
I don't know why, they're like little vinyl figs you'd collect but instead costing $40, they cost like $5 each.

Yea because they are supposed to be vinyl figs. They actually do look legit cool.
I'd imagine tying it to a game was a way to try to popularize vinyls more.

I've been trying to remember what these were called for months now and I could never find anything when I tried describing it in google so thank you for making this, as a side note, I remember buying the starter set as a kid but I don't think I ever actually played the game despite having wanted it for months so I just kinda had the figures sitting on my desk
Months? I been trying to imagine it for literally years
I also had them just in display, and after all these years I still have the Hub
They really made a rainbow ubfunkeys and described them as "fierce". We see you, Mattel. We see you.
I played ub funkeys when I was younger and now I'm 💅fierce💅. Doesn't seem like a coincidence
The main villain is called Master Locks? Send for Lock picking Lawyer he'll sort this out in an afternoon
Brilliant reference. 🤣
I still have my Funkeys and a black Hub Funkey in a box currently sitting about 12 feet away from me. Loved that game as a kid. Honestly doing stuff like this makes toy lines more worth buying in my opinion, especially if you're mostly just interested in collecting the models anyway like Funko Pop figures. You'll always have a collection to put up on your shelf (which I'm pretty sure is the only thing people buy Funko Pop figures for anyway) and showcase it to people or just do it for your own personal viewing but then you also have a little game on the side as a bonus to it all. It's perfect, one of the few money-making schemes I'm actually ok with xD
I remember having tons of these and i remember getting hooked in by this Demo disc i got in a wendys meal. By that time most of the funkies were lining 99 cent store shelves so it was easy to gather a huge group of them

so this is like a early 2000's toys to life game? just... in a very primitive form
oh my GOD i love this game so much, i think the main reason i still love it so much over something like club penguin or webkinz is just like, the creativity of this game, and the art style of the worlds and the figures is all so pretty, and especially that weird flesh body horror zone, that is daring to put into a kids game. I honestly think ub funkeys, even though its kinda lackluster in gameplay, is still probably one of my favorite games ever, it has stuck around with my life for so long and inspired my art so much man. It's bordering obsession probably. I absolutely hate how it was just cancelled one day even though there was a TV show, merchandise, and more worlds and figures on their way. Good video dude, keep up the good work!!!
i love this comment!!! it resonates w me
That actually was one of my favorite games as a kid!😂 Then it got discontinued and both me and my mom were left wondering were the freaking figures went...
I honestly still miss it sometimes.😅
(And you just made me realize that we never got the full version of the game in Germany. Only the first 4 worlds and the funkeys for that...)
There was one game I remember from the 2000's, Freaky Creatures
I barely remember much besides it doing something similar to UB Funkeys, with the toys. But what they did was kinda different, where they sold figures that also had these cards alongside them. Those cards had codes that let you use the species of creature the figure was supposed to be as an avatar
The Flesh Zone looks like something David Lynch made up during a nap.
