I home schooled him in a Christian program (Abeka and then Lighthouse Christian Academy) till his 2nd half of 11th grade. He graduated from Sebastian River High (SRHS). He was smarter going to home school just following the program, no real teacher needed, than going to public school. He was dumbed down when he graduated. It was ridiculous. The biggest benefit we had from home schooling was that it gave us the flexibility we needed for his travel hockey. He learned more from the home schooling program than what they taught in school. He didn't need to be confused with common core math or disrupted by students thay didn't behave. Plus, when he needed a math tutor, unlike teachers working with 25 different students and different ways they learned, the tutor gave him 10 math problems, and she knew immediately what he wasn't understanding. So he had one on one time and the way he needed to b taught. Also, when he entered his senior year, his entrepreneurial class the teacher wasn't teaching kids how to become that bit instead using them for his own business as child labor. Or they just sat arouns doing nothing. So again tell me how public school is better? Regardless if its a religious program or not.

In Arizona we sent our children to a charter school. My wife has taught at 2 charter schools. The charter elementary schools teach more than public high schools.
Our school district added a charter school. Although admissions were done by lottery, only kids with parents who were involved in their children's education applied. The charter school kids overwhelmingly outperformed the regular school children. Under pressure, this inequity was rectified by dumbing down the charter school.

He was smarter going to home school just following the program, no real teacher needed, than going to public school. He was dumbed down when he graduated. It was ridiculous. The problems with christian homeschooling is that 1) christianity is an increasingly irrelevant fantasy and nothing about it it true, and 2) your kid is gonna be socially awkward when he goes into the world.

The biggest benefit we had from home schooling was that it gave us the flexibility we needed for his travel hockey. He learned more from the home schooling program than what they taught in school. He didn't need to be confused with common core math or disrupted by students thay didn't behave. Plus, when he needed a math tutor, unlike teachers working with 25 different students and different ways they learned, the tutor gave him 10 math problems, and she knew immediately what he wasn't understanding. So he had one on one time and the way he needed to b taught.
Also, when he entered his senior year, his entrepreneurial class the teacher wasn't teaching kids how to become that bit instead using them for his own business as child labor. Or they just sat arouns doing nothing.
So again tell me how public school is better? Regardless if its a religious program or not.

I am a social worker and used to work for a school. If I saw a student with that book with the rape etc and they said their parent gave it to them…. I am reporting the parent.

The signing of a consent document should be on the parent wanting their kids to see this pornographic material from a school library, not on the parent wanting to shield their child from this perversion. Since when did a kid not feel compelled to show another kid what he has seen? If we are going to be brutally honest how did most adolescent boys come to see their first adult content? If we are going to go this route then we must have a considerable financial penalty placed on the sorry excuse for a parent that would want their child exposed to this type of material, in the case where their child shares it with other children. But reconsider your statement to reflect both the good parents and bad parents and say your statement this way; most parents are experts in what is good and moral for educating the children.

In Arizona we sent our children to a charter school. My wife has taught at 2 charter schools. The charter elementary schools teach more than public high schools.
Our school district added a charter school. Although admissions were done by lottery, only kids with parents who were involved in their children's education applied. The charter school kids overwhelmingly outperformed the regular school children. Under pressure, this inequity was rectified by dumbing down the charter school.
If they want their child to have access, buy the book or get it from a public library where it is appropriately shelved. Doesn’t seem that difficult to figure out Joy

If you have the book in a school library some kid is going to come across it. That child will then show all of their friends (that’s how kids work). Now your child has been exposed to something you do not want your child exposed to. Keep it out of the schools, if parents want their kids to see/read that then take them to the public library or book store.
