Wow, one of my favourite fruits. It is a very nutritious fruit and has health benefits. It's packed with vitamins and minerals. It originated in the Western Ghats in India according to my knowledge. These trees are also found in rainforests in various other countries. Hence ,the raw fruit is used for savoury dishes and the ripe ones for jellies, jam, snacks, just to name a few. I had no knowledge that it has a shelf life, when prepared according to your recipe. I usually made some jam or used it for payasam or halva, or just ate it. That is how, I got to like this fruit. My mother made payasam and most of the time shared the fruits with neighbours. Good old days.
