It's here! The new DeLonghi La Specialista Prestigio, the new "2.0" generation, has arrived.Today we're looking at a number of the new and improved changes this model has over it's predecessor, and why it has an excellent position in the realm of semi-automatic espresso machines with integrated grinders in 2022.
The Prestigio now features better coffee with an upgraded grinder, non-pressurized single-wall filter baskets, dynamic preinfusion, a new latte art steam wand, and much more.
For those who are curious, we have a new video comparing the performance and speed between the new La Specialista Prestigio and several other popular integrated grinder machines by Breville. View here: ruclips.net/video/YFSxugwCVB8/видео.html
I have this machine! loved it soo much! I am using the Lavazza super crema beans and grinding setting #4, water temp level 1 so it will not be a bitter coffee or taste like a burn. The dose level is 60% ( like 1 o'clock in the clock) I learned that the dosing and grind settings are correct if after making coffee the grounds turn like Round brownies. if watery adjust grind and dosing. There are a lot of videos online! But, I really love this machine! just got it last month 2022 edition. The machine works sooo well! I got this brand and model because it's an Italian brand! No issues with the machine! feels super solid and heavy! FYI crema always depends on the coffee beans that you are using! I tried Starbucks espresso beans and no crema at all! also tried Starbucks Siren beans medium roast... some crema also but, so far the lavazza works for me well!
Do you still recommend this machine? Was trying to figure out how reliable it is if you don't mind sharing
Most informative video yet on this machine!
Is it possible to tamp manually on this model? Have you ever tried?
Great video mate! finally a video that go in depth of this machine. Thank you 🙏
is the first set up you need to use a single basket to set up the grind volume than press x2 when changing to double basket?
Cannot cancel rinse icon .
No button for "rinse" on panel display as suggested in instructions
we have the same machine. everything works except for the temperature in middle. it doesnt move even when extracting the espresso. how do i deal w this? thank u so much
Do you mean the pressure gauge? Is it still under warranty?
Hi my baskets are pressurised , can i change to non pressurised. My coffee grinder has 6 settings not 8? Is mine an older model?
Yes its the older model it took me a long time to figure out.
Thank you for this very informative video! I have the Dinamica fully automatic machine. The coffee is way different with the semi-automatic or manual coffee machines. The taste is different.
I have a new machine used once.I can't get the top grinder burr to seat in?
Try to turn the grinder a
Setting to REMOVE before seating it
How long on average does it take to get a good steam and microfoam. I’ve been having issues trying to get a good microfoam. I’ll get some good steamed milk though. Or maybe any good tips on how to accomplish this?
I have same problem. No microform at all!
I have the same issue. Another issue is that the calc clean takes forever.
100% technique. I'd recommend searching some youtube videos on steaming - you'll need to get a vortex going in the pitcher and inject only small amounts of air. This happens when you hear the "TSSST" sound. Too much air will lead to large foam bubbles
I just bought this based mainly on your reviews. It was a tuff choice but the Maestro, from what I have gathered doesn't make any better coffee per se so I choose to master my foam art. ;)
Good choice! I personally prefer the microfoam from the latteart steam wand over the automated carafes, like the one in the Maestro. The little bubbles from the wand encapsulates the coffee in a nicer way. I think your direction is a better one, value-wise.
Liam
enjoyed your video, thank you for the clear and succinct review!
Thank you for the review. I've bought mine two months ago and I absolutely love it.
Hi. I have the smaller version, the Dedica. Do you think its worth upgrading? Will the coffee it produces be much different? Thanks!
I'd recommend keeping your current machine and upgrading your grinder. That would be the wisest choice to get better coffee in your circumstance.
Nice video! how I do to running water through the portfilter to warm up the machine🤔
Press the 'OK' button without any coffee in the portafilter. A quick rinse will do - keeping it in there to warm the portafilter will improve the thermal stability and improve your chances of pulling a good shot
What material is used for the buttons, tamper handle, knobs, etc? Is that pastic or stainless steel?
@Isaac Newton I purchased it as well. Indeed lots of plastic. Fortunately the tamper handle feel like stainless steel though
Hi,
Is it possible to dial in for any coffee beans? I heard some coffee beans is unable to get good shot as the grind size is only 8 setting?
For traditional espresso style coffee (using medium-dark roasts), dialling in will not be a problem. Coffee roasted that dark is very tolerant of large jumps in grind steps, and this is also the type you'll want to look for when making cappuccinos / lattes. If you're using light roasts and single origin unwashed beans... can definitely get tricky and I would recommend something like the Breville Impress as an alternative. For most people this is not a problem, since lighter roasts tend to be fruity and or sour tasting and this isn't usually the type of coffee most people are using with their milk drinks.
The Specialista Prestigio's smaller portafilter, basket design, and 9-bar pump pressure at the grouphead also help pull a pretty consistent shot. It's actually much easier to dial in than most espresso machines in the price range.
My cleaning cycle on first power on did not complete properly and now I cannot proceed to coffee making. Its grinds, taps, I move to the brewing station and the ON light just flashes and nothing happens.. ??
Late to reply here but posting in case other people have similar issues. This is priming issue with a water bubble stuck in the water circuit. Probably the most infamous issue that occurs with all new espresso machines. Tip to the side, activate the hot water spout, and see if you can get the water pumping again. Calling customer service will be your next bet
Can you show us how to get microform use this machine ? Thanks.
I'd recommend taking a look at some milk steaming tutorials. It's relatively the same on most espresso machines (with some small differences). The technique takes a bit of time to learn.
Mine keep showing empty hopper alert and not grind beans
Is an upgrade from la specialista to prestigio worth the money?
Honestly - it's a pretty wild difference in both the coffee and milk quality. However these changes also came to the Specialista Arte, so you could probably sell your current machine and buy that one for around the same price. I'd recommend getting away from the original generation La Specialista if possible.
Thank you for the review! 😊
Great video! Thank you 🙏🏻
Do you happen to know what the 'energy saving' mode does?
can i use a different size portafilter?
Nope - portafilter locks into the grouphead so it's a fixed size
Hey man, nice Video! Could you tell me a bit more about the changeable Temperature Settings? I asked about them at my lokal Store and they told me about a temperature range between 90 to 95° C, which doesn´t sound right to me
Nope! I don't think that's right, either. De'Longhi's adjustable range is usually between 85-90. The machines are 'Italian Style' and very careful not to burn the coffee.
How long is the time that u need to wait untill the machine is rdy to use
Heat up time is about 15secs from powering on. We do recommend running some water through the portafiler to warm it up - that will improve your shots.
Cheers,
Liam
Does the steam wand have an auto purge function?
Nope - I don't think so. You'll need to purge it by turning the knob.
Can you achieve the extra hot temperature on this machine?
Yeah, you should be! DeLonghi machines let you go a little hotter than other manufacturers on the coffee brewing. For milk temp, you just need to steam for longer. However I'd note to be careful not to burn the coffee or milk during the beverage prep.
Liam
Where does the water come from ? I'm so confused !
There is a reserve in the back
Can this be used for small coffee shop business
We wouldn't recommend it! The warranty only applies to households and non-commercial use. We'd recommend an espresso machine which has multiple boilers which can all run at the same time to handle the potential high demand in a coffee shop environment.
Liam
We have the Delonghi la specialista at home. We've already gone through some different coffee machine brands. This looked to be a semi pro. So we've payed around 900 euro for this. Must say we're very disappointed.
1)My wife now doesn't want to use it as the milk steamer just doesn't work properly. It's just hot water. And we've tried it on multiple ways.
2), the cleaning is just a total disaster. Takes almost half hour and it just does it quite slow and we even had our electric circuit blocked by the machine as it somehow triggered that.
3), the smart tamping doesn't spread out the coffee good so you don't get the coffee quite even through.
4), the coffee when it's gotten through the system, often sticks to the system...
It just has the look. But that's it's. I wouldn't spend my money on it
Thanks for sharing your experience Pieter! Definitely get your machine checked if there's water coming out of your steam arm - that could be a system wide issue.
Why the one i have has small steam wand , and also its too bad for lattee art , how can i get like the one you offering
Hi Ahmed! The machine in the video is the La Specialista 'Prestigio', which is the second iteration and newer revised model. The new model has an upgraded latte art steam wand, while the older model has a pannarello wand which makes thicker bubbles. Hope this helps explain!
Liam
@@HomeCoffeeSolutions thank you for explaining that to me , any tips to improve lattee art with my delonghi
@@ahmedaldawood5678 Yup! An easy way to go about this would be to remove the silver exterior on the frothing wand. It'll expose a black rubber piece and you can use this to more carefully control the air injection to get finer bubbles. Be careful, though! The rubber piece can come off if you are not careful. It's a bit of a burn risk.
Thanks for the video .. good to see you excited about something LoL.
Love love love the #Delonghi #LaSpecialista line of espresso machines. I just bought the #Delonghi #LaSpecialista #Maestro, it arrived earlier today and after doing some reading of the manuals I look forward to setting it up over the weekend and pulling my first shot.
