  • Classic. Ageless. Iconic. Legend.
    All words thrown about these days when referring to everything from the latest iPad to overpriced celebrity inspired sneakers.
    But in the automotive world, certain models of car are truly worthy of such illustrious titles.
    The Porsche 911, the Toyota Landcruiser, the Volkswagen Beetle and of course, the Ford Mustang.
    The 911 is now bigger, faster and more technically advanced than ever before, but, many feel it has lost the soul of the 60’s classics. The almost cult like following that classic air cooled 911’s now have adds some weight to that criticism.
    The Landcruiser, once an indestructible, rugged no nonsense truck that could transport you across, well just about anything has turned into a luxurious, climate controlled, indestructible truck, capable of transporting you across, well just about anything.
    The Volkswagen Beetle, the old one was dependable, unique, full of charm and character and the new one, well, um, lets not delve into the new one. It’s so far removed from the original, it may tend to spoil the point I’m trying to make here.
    And then we have the Ford Mustang. In the 60’s the Mustang was a V8 powered rear wheel drive muscle car for the masses. Affordable, relatively practical, incredibly fun with impressive levels of performance and a soundtrack that just exuded tough.
    But 50 years later, can the latest Mustang continue the classics legacy?
    Let’s find out.

    Great content Adam - cars like the Mustang must be celebrated as their existence in our market bring relief from dominant SUV trend

    Nicely done Adam, and as you said, it's a celebration video. I'm a Beemer fan at heart, but can appreciate the Mustang for what it is, and what we'll remember it as in 20 years when everything is ultra-safe, ultra clean. I'm pretty sure there are still true enthusisasts out there who don't feel the need to find fault in everything they see, but they don't live in RUclips land unfortuantely.

    This is the best review on the new Mustang I've seen! Hes right to talk about automotive experience, this is what the car is about. I've had mine a month now and that engine fire up makes my neck stand up! Btw, anyone know the name of the song at the start?

    The addition of the digital dash, quad pipe exhausts, the rear spoiler and extra power is all good but i cant help but notice those headlights. They’re so strangely shaped.. i thought it would grow on me but it hasnt.

      I was the same with exception of the rear spoiler ( you can keep that ) the first time I saw the 2018, I thought “what were they thinking?” but after spending a lot of time researching and looking and test driving, the 2017 now looks boring and dated to me, there is only 1 viewing angle that I’m not overly fond of on a 2018 Mustang and that is a meter or 2, directly out from the rear wheel, looking diagonally at the front but everywhere else, it looks so much better, hence there is now 1 parked in our garage

    Hi again Adam.Thanks for the response. Appreciate the difficulty of what you want to say and how much/little you then get to say. Ford absolutely got the Spirit of Mustang just right, but the Yanks may be a little less safety minded than we are. Perhaps it isn't an 'everyday' car, just like its 1964 1/2 Ancestor, and you may just buy a Toyota Yaris for everyday driving as well. ( btw Kiwi Nigel Latta has a great RUclips segment using a Yaris and a VR commodore). Suzuki 3stars? Noooooo! Again, perfect execution of the Jimny/Sierra spirit, and I had hoped a worthy successor to the LR 80-90 Defender series. I look forward to a balanced treatment by motoring columnists for example, a Chinese manufactured vehicle with 3 ANCAP stars compared to the Mustangs and Jimnys with a pretty face, but I think I know what the market will decide instead. Keep up the great work. JR

    Hey the 68 GT is unique, antique, hard to replace, and worth quite a bit. But I would take the new GT everyday. New Mustang GT's are full of high-tech, reliable, handle, good on gas, have the sound, powerfully fast... and look so nice in and out! Keep the 68 in the garage and take to shows. Take the new GT anywhere and everywhere. Good for you to have both.

    I like car advice. Hey just know that it's ok to give facts and opinions as it is. Jeremy Clarkson has had such an impact on car journalists they all seem to think every video needs to be cinematic, nostalgic, measured against something and quirky with more journalists now trying to express themselves in the hopes audiences will love them instead of just getting straight to the car.

    As Australian police testing found out, the Kia Stinger GT is a better deal.
    For example, the mustang failed thermal/cooling related braking trials while the Stinger GT was fine with these trials.

    • @adzmorris
      @adzmorris 5 лет назад +3

      Plus the Stinger has rear doors, a far larger boot, more interior space and just makes for a better High Way Patrol Car.
      But, the Mustang sounds incredible, looks fantastic and has so much charm and charisma. Plus if you lust after a Mustang, I doubt a Stinger will float your boat and, if you need practicality as much as performance, I doubt the Mustang will tick all the boxes.
      The end result is they're both excellent cars in their own right.

      Interesting take mate. I drove it for hours on the shoot and found it incredibly comfortable. Also the build quality certainly isn't euro luxury levels but it's not trying to attract that market. I found the build quality excellent for what it is and what it costs.

    Hi Adam, I love Mustangs as well. Whilst understanding this was a Celebration of the Mustang instead of a review, despite it's outrageous good looks, sound, imposing presence and great bang for bucks, this vehicle came with a "Passive " ANCAP rating of 2 stars or "Active" 2018 ANCAP rating of 3 stars. I would expect a responsible journalist would to mention it 's relative safety somewhere, whilst celebrating its charms. Dare I say, in 2015 when the LR Defender was being farewelled ( yes, much less safe again ) , it's reason for ending production was more than mentioned. Safety is even more significant in a performance car. If your Mustang has a head-on collision into a 2015 VF Commodore SS for example, like-for-like, the passenger cell in the Mustang will deform and injure and even kill before the 3 year old Holden' s passenger cell. By all means celebrate, but please make sure it is mentioned that it is waaaay behind the pack in safety.

    • @adzmorris
      @adzmorris 5 лет назад

      Hi Joe, firstly thank you for such a polite and well written critique of the piece. Unfortunately I'm now used to some commenters not sharing your excellent writing ability or well mannered constructive criticism.
      Now to answer your very valid points. I'd actually written the ANCAP rating issues into my first draft of the script and um'd and ah'd for hours on wether to include it or not and here's the conclusion I came to.
      I totally agree that had this been a traditional revue, the ANCAP rating must be included. However, as we've now written and filmed quite a few reviews of the Mustang, and in every one of those more traditional reviews we have made sure we've mentioned the elephant in the room that is the ANCAP score, I felt that including the ANCAP rating element took away from this piece being a celebration and no matter how I tried to re-write it, I felt that the narrative lost some of it's rhythm when the ratings were included.
      Also, we are limited to time both from a production stand point and a length of final video stand point. I had to make a decision between spending the time it would take to shoot and capture the ANCAP rating piece to camera or spending that time capturing more b-roll, which we needed to give this piece a more cinematic look. I clearly chose the latter.
      Your points and concerns are 100% totally valid and I'm sorry if the piece didn't meet your expectations. With how many Mustangs are being snapped up, and with the huge interest surrounding the low ANCAP scoring new Jimny, it's interesting to see many consumers are willing ignore safety for style, character and charm. If only we could have both.

      @@awl98 I've made it pretty clear at the beginning of this video that this is a celebration piece, not a review. So, being a "celebration" piece, I felt it right to, well, celebrate everything thats great with the car.

    • @adzmorris
      @adzmorris 5 лет назад

      With the amount of Ford Rangers rolling out of dealerships and the fact the Mustang is one of the highest selling performance cars in it's class in recent times, I think Ford are doing ok for a while yet.
      The US gets a wider variety of Mustang specs due to the fact they have a far larger market and there for, it makes financial sense to offer a wider variety of Mustang.
      Also not all safety ratings are the same. While some tests are universal, ANCAP results may vary with other countries safety results as their testing procedures differ from the US. Even with in the US, different states have different safety requirements so information can be a little blurred from our friends stateside.

XR8 Sprint is a great car and Australia should be proud of it but I found the Mustang to give me far more confidence, feel, balance and composure when pushing it's limits. • @adzmorris
      @adzmorris 5 лет назад +1

      @@lnkoana5832 the 440i is a superb car but very very different to a Mustang. I doubt many people are cross shopping between a 4 series and a Mustang. It would be like cross shopping between the latest in Bluray and CD players and turn tables for your vinyl collection.
      The Mustang offers a very unique and characterful option when it comes to sports cars. Yes the interior of the BMW is far more euro and classy, the performance is more cohesive and reliability can only be proven with age but the BMW doesn't have that V8 rumple, it doesn't have the retro design cues and, coming from a euro car fan, the BMW doesn't have that x factor attraction that the Mustang has.
      Muscle cars are clearly not dead. Ford are selling these by the truck load and the interest in the HSV equivalent is huge.
      4 Series coupe, C Class, A5 are all brilliant but so is the Mustang in it's own way. I fits its purpose perfectly.
