They need 5 yrs of training.
So one year longer than medical school and two more than law school for 20% of the pay? Makes sense. Unless your willing for your taxes to be doubled or trippled to pay for the increase in salary that would have to accompany such a training demand.

Honestly, Miami Dade Police Department is the Laziest, scariest & sorriest police department in all of South Florida. If it consists of actual WORK & some DANGER, most Miami Dade police officers run and hide. They honestly don't do any REAL WORK. A lot of them try to avoid calls at all costs in an effort to preserve themselves long enough to collect their retirement. It's hard to get them to even respond to non emergency calls, let alone REAL EMERGENCIES.

Most of the cadets you showed in this segment are overweight, but after 30 years of interactions with mdpd officers i can say most are ok

How about teaching them common rights, like the 1st amendment, the difference between public and private property, etc. I have met many officer’s which are clueless about the law. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pro police but there are bunch of law breaking aggressive officers out there. One of their issues is that they cover each other’s back when something illegal occurs.

@@Pablo44528 Cops learn very little laws. How much law can a 6 month academy teach? Not much. They need to constantly study and learn. Most do not because they were never academically gifted and lack discipline. What other job pays really well without intelligence, none.

BLE 278 class 2011 here. I left my police officer job in 2014 after only 5 months. It's a horrible job to have. You wear a camera, you have a gps on your car, you are micro managed up to the ying yang, court dates you have to attend, suspensions without pay, etc. No thanks. Proudly serving DHS for 7 years in A/C. Making almost $70K and I can take my job to 50 states. It's not what it use to be.
The enormous amount of bad cops messed it up for the little bit of good cops..
I'm in an airport chilled. No court, no body cam, no gps tracking on your police car, and no lay offs or cuts. Plus can transfer your job to 50 states and 4 countries. Oh plus I get bonuses. So far this year $2,700. And we're all getting a $3,000 Covid19 payment for being frontline that was approved by congress. Now tell me what city or state police department offers all that? NONE

No lay offs and 50 states to work at PD's are making retirement at 25-30 years. Bro, it's not the career it use to be. Oh I work a 4/3 with Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off. Id never be able to survive PD. I would be written up for stupid mistakes so many times they'd either have to put me on traffic duty or let me go. The training is easy; it's the political maneuvering that gets you put down

i was born and raised in mia fla i am now 62 years of age and i 2 remember the marielle boat lift as well as the cocaine cow boys i still have nightmares over those days
They don't teach basic interpersonal communication. This academy is a joke. Most of these rookies lose their command presence with unprofessional conduct during a common citizen/officer interaction.
Tech them the law. They need more time in the law librery than at the shooting range
That's a good suggestion. Perhaps take your own advice and learn to write better. I suggest some time at the local "librery".
