Loosing time into woodcote, feels like it needs 3rd to get the most of the run down to the chicane but it unsettles the car. either needs a huge blip on the throttle in 3rd or coasting round faster in 4th... dunno, need to learn to do this bit faster then 1:30 is possible. Car is totally stock.
I agree Jon, it did sound and look like you needed 3rd, I even shouted at you to change down but then I can't feel what the car is doing sat on my sofa! According to my lap timing the one where you said 'that's better, this is fast' actually wasn't your quickest, the lap two before that one was almost half a second quicker, I clocked it at 1:31.27 Nice mate, very nice indeed 👍
@@steverabbits yes that lap chasing the yaris was the quickly and I did woodcote in 3rd there. but I thin I lost time at woodcote mainly. the rest of the lap I dont think I can juice much more time unless I go flat through fordwater.
Good job John, keep to the wall on on the pit straight it gives you a vacuum pull and a few mph less drag 👍 you must know Goodwood like the back of your hand by now, lol
yer gonna be scary because your braking down from very high speed and if you use third its right at the end of the range so it will need to be a big beefy blip and dunk it in and hope it doesnt jerk and you can get onto the power early. if I get this right I can do 1:30
The B58 engine sounds fabulous. Want to get my M140i down to Goodwood at some point as want to experience being able to give it the full beans without worrying about speed limits!
get it down there andy. lines are important on goodwood. try and go round with someone that can show you the lines roughly. then you can slowly build speed and brake later. M140i goes well there need to be carefull at st marys theres a suddenly drop that can yank the rug from under you. other than that you get a feel of it after about 20 laps it will start gelling.
@@forensicunplugged4295 Goodwood is the track I know the best as driven several cars there including my old MK2 Golf GTI 8V & Corrado VR6 and was lucky enough to also drive an MGC on three double Webber’s (that was hard work) & a heavily modified Caterham 7 with Ford Pinto 2.0. Not driven there for at least 15 years as only had dads taxi type cars. It is so expensive now & would need some insurance for the M140i to.
Not bad, you lift off on the long corner leading to st marys, shouldnt need to (i certainly dont im my 2009 ttrs manual roadster stage 1, 372hp) our lap times and overall style are pretty similar, im chasing sub 1.30 but that will be a stage 2 i reckon.
I dont just lift I brake at "no name" can do it at around 100mph gets sketchy close to 110mph. 1.31 in a stock manual m240 is solid. 1.29 would be decent in a ZF8 gearbox m240. I can get round in 1.25 in my M4. Tyres are most important things Cup2 will bring you the biggest increase in time.
Have you tried doing a lap in Sport+ rather than DSC fully off? In Sport+ the car will rev-match downshifts for you which might help keep the car stable towards the end of your lap. I've just bought an M235i and still getting used to the clutch like you however it doesnt have this feature so have been practicing my heal toe downshifts :)
yes the DSC system is too intrusive Im faster without it (in the dry). I also not keen on automated rev matching, although trying to heel and in a huge braking zone at woodcote is a bit scary but I think I need to put a big blip in and chuck it in third. At the moment Im chucking it into 3rd and yanking the car out of shape. I did a fast lap towards the end in 4th but then I get the yank back dropping to 3rd for the chicane but I loose punch on the little straight before the chicane. I need to heel and toe somewhere I think here although maybe its just gonna be too fast for the gear no matter what. looking forward to trying to fix this its a nice little challenge.
@@forensicunplugged4295 Absolutely! Will be very rewarding when you finally get the knack of it. Personally I'm enjoying getting to learn my M235 as its the first RWD car I've owned (I'm only 19 and had a diesel A3 before it)
your a legend Nik. It would have been a bit faster in an auto for sure. 1-2 seconds at least. But you do loose a lot of the challenge. I remember dong a session in the M140i with the ZF8 once and I came in early because it little just got a bit dull. On the track it has to be a manual mate.
stock pads can handle goodwood. stock fluid as well as long as its fresh. worn stock pads and older fluid with moisture in it, pads then dont disipate the heat so well and you over heat the fluid and loose the pedal, happened to me on the m140. but essentially I think you will get 3 track days on a set of pads, change pads change fluid. And tyres when required. good to go.
stock tune is better dave for track (long specially full track days). Map can give you a bit more grunt but as the temps creep up the maps dont work the same.

I’m so used to this track because of gran turismo 7
It's such a unique race track. Its turns are fast and deceptive if you aren't familiar with them. But an absolute joy to drive.
Lovin this....well done Jon 👍😱
Hello Jon from Down Under ;) I did enjoy the ride along and 7000rpm does sound sweet..
Episode 63 of ‘The Intercooler’ is dedicated to Goodwood! I think you might be interested in some of the history and lap times! Good going btw!!
Good job John, keep to the wall on on the pit straight it gives you a vacuum pull and a few mph less drag 👍 you must know Goodwood like the back of your hand by now, lol
Needs some heel and toe work to get it into third smoothly, mine was a pig and the pedal positioning is not brilliant but it can be done. Good laps 👍

Very nice Jon. Come and do Castle Combe please mate, I'll come and cheer you on. Or go round with you if my shoulders are healed up by then
Looked like great fun
Looking good!
