"Kill Screen" is actually a real term in the gaming community it describes a level that cannot be beaten, mostly on older arcade games These occur because the creators of the game didn't know such a screen existed or that anyone would be skilled enough to get that far A famous example is the infamous stage 256 glitch in Pac-Man. Once you clear stage 255, the right half of the screen becomes a garbled mess, and it is impossible to clear it
Fun fact: The loud scream-like sound in the FATAL ERROR part of the Switch kill screen is nothing but an earraped and slowed down oof. *_subscribe or ken kutaragi will beat your ass_*
Noticed this in the recommended of my PS2 kill screen video and I gotta say, yeah a lot of them look super unrealistic. My goal with mine was to make it as realistic and close to the actual console menus as possible. For the most part I think it paid off because until I confirmed it was fake there were wars in my comments debating its authenticity lmao
I discovered this whole thing tonight and was legitimately surprised to see it. Looks like a creepypasta trend from the late two thousands that's been misplaced in time.
Yes, the console that had Shrek the Videogame as a launch title is the scariest console ever, If you're scared of the robot sounds on the dashboard, then you can just mute your TV.
Yeah, mine did that cause of dust in it and it freaked me out- Thankfully, again, it was due to dust so it just had to be blown out and it still worked last I checked- [2019-ish. Had to move to a new home and there isn't room for it so I can't check if it still works to this day sadly]
I had a dream as a kid (I'd say about 20 years ago) that had an extremely similar screen to that first red one, except it was for some reason on a PC in my garage. After leaving it on for a while a screaming eagle would appear. I was scared of my PC for months.
Instead of calmly telling you that something is wrong with your system and shows you a step-by-step process on what to do, the killscreens just slap the anomaly in your face, and you are left with little to no idea what to do, so you keep going until your console or computer or system dies.
The reason i like these is because i was a creepypasta kid and the game creepypasta are the ones that scare me the most (i was very young) besides slenderman so seeing these and getting creeped out makes me feel young again and shitting my pants at that rat creepypasta
Another similarly small youtube genre/community is EAS scenarios. Basically it's creepy stories told through Emergency Alert System messages. I used to do it but had to drop it due to being to busy with school. I recommend them if u like creepy stories with technology. If you're one of my subscribers, hey :) and sorry for letting you down. I might be back in the future though :)
Some of them are pretty good but some are kinda unrealistic, like assuming everyone in New York City has a car to evacuate from a paranormal threat. Many scenarios that feature the “Evacuation Immediate” warning have pretty unrealistic evacuation procedures, oftentimes they dont mention what roads to take, evacuation shelters or pickup points for those that dont have cars.
the scariest error screen i’ve ever faced is when my new laptop, after just a few weeks, went to this old looking OS screen and said that it couldn’t locate a memory drive and therefore couldn’t operate,,,,, had to take it back and eventually exchanged it because it was literally impossible to fix. every single best buy employee was confused by it, they’d never seen it happen before, they just kept calling in higher ups who couldn’t make sense of it either. how the fuck does a memory drive just disappear

Screens like this aren't completely fake. My previous laptop's fan stopped working and when you turn it on, it gives you a warning about overheating which can permanently damage the laptop. It also gives me the option to press a button to turn it off or press a button to ignore the warning and continue. It doesn't have creepy music obviously, but it's still unsettling, because of how aggressive the screen feels.

I've noticed that with quite a few of the more recent kill screens, the problem causing the kill screen to appear in the first place is overheating. The entire device seems to overheat to temperatures that would actually be harmless or only do damage in the long term (80-95ºC or below) to temperatures that realistically cannot be reached before the system powers off (sometimes with fans at max speed for a while) to protect itself (≥100ºC). And all the device does is beg you to shut it off with increasingly threatening error screens instead of shutting itself off and refusing to turn back on, putting the fans on full blast, or even just so much as throttling components such as the CPU or GPU. And for the most egregious part, the CPU and GPU STILL SURVIVE TO THE END (evidenced by the now bricked device still getting a picture out and telling you it's useless and irreparable) even though they should be the FIRST COMPONENTS TO DIE because they heat up the most. But that's not the end of it, because components like Wi-Fi cards and USB ports get fried instead - parts that SHOULDN'T HAVE OVERHEATED AT ALL unless they were either right next to the CPU and/or GPU or were being blasted with a heat gun or something. Which I HIGHLY DOUBT would be happening. No user would be putting their entire device in a fire and trying to run it as normal while it throws weird error messages at them!
It reminds me of emergency broadcasts. Especially the game SCP, or SCP-001. I like these. I've been desensitized from these horror & disturbing things. But these sparked an interest in me.
"Barney error" got me rolling on the floor Basically a barney error is when your doing something on your computer and then suddenly "OH NOES BARNEY WAS KILLED BY (insert character here) AND HE PUT A BOMB IN HIS LAIR THAT WILL EXPLODE UR COMPUTER IN 193 HOURS!!!! DONT TURN OFF UR COMPUTER OR ELSE!!!!" and theres these things called "chances" that you lose every time you turn off the pc. Every time you lose a certain amount of chances barney will become "creepier". If you lose all ur chances then u gotta enter some code thingy and if you get it wrong YOUR CONPUTER WILL BEE GON FOR 1927691828478281918373763718192 YEARS!!!! if you get it right tho you get your computer back. Yea these errors are stupid lol (yes they are fake)
literally the only weird thing ive ever encountered was when i turned on my nintendo switch it turned off and wouldnt turn back on.. and when i put it on the charger it still didnt work, but after showing it to my step dad he said it just froze and had to restart for a while on a charger so uh y e a h..........but i would fr shit my pants if i got one of these damn
I've always been afraid of the Windows crash screens, and still get unsettled today, mainly because it happens unexpectedly, imagine: You're minding your own business, doing whatever on your Windows 10 PC, then suddenly- :( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. It's almost a jumpscare, and... the frowny face doesn't really help either.
Now I know how to make a kill screen, try to make it as believable as possible and then just throw in some obscure piece of text screaming at you or barney the dinosaur... makes perfect sense
Original Xbox dashboard is more creepy then some of these videos, yet it's not fake and it's fairly functional for 2001... And the consistency is even more weird when after this menu, you gonna play something like GTA SA...
6:36 iceypie: how do you look at this and say its from the wii me: even if you said "how do you look at this and know what console its from" i would still know its from the wii because it says "ensure that your wii is in a cool place"
i had to reset windows for my pc once, since everything was failing it was very shitty side note: not too long ago, i tried booting up my pc and it said "no bootable decive" i thought i was dead, but yo boi just turned the pc off and on again.
I was playing minecraft on my Xbox 360, and I jumped into a ravine and the game lagged, and then the screen turned extremely colorful and bright. I turned the Xbox off and on, but a red ring appeared on the Xbox instead of the usual green ring, and it scared me and my sister. We replaced the old one with a newer Xbox 360, but it had significantly less space on it. Before replacing it, I looked up on Google what it means for an Xbox 360 to have a red ring, but nothing came up. The Xbox is gone now, and the only way that it could have been restored was to wipe it's memory, but to do that, I had to hold down on the power button, which I did, but nothing happened. We had that Xbox for at least 8 years, and it brought so much happiness to my family. It was really sad to see that it didn't work anymore.
I had a kill screen happen to my DSi, but it happened while I was using it, I was about 6 when it happened, but I was playing a frikkin Headstart game (I think that was the name of the brand) and clicked on my progress and apparently that was just enough to destroy my DSi
it reminds me of another unknown small genre of videos where people purposefully "corrupt" retro games like Arkanoid, even their Game Over screens, and mind you I have a really strange fear that ever since I was born, I'm just so soooo scared of NES Game Over screens, the text is so ominous, the track playing for the Game Over screen is usually in downtempo and really just scary, even to this day where i'm 21 years old, so trying to watch these fake killscreens and those "corruption" videos I just mentioned is like attempting to make myself fall into coma but repeatedly getting terrified of ominous console sounds and creepy NES font texts : ^)
Reminds me when I was playing the PS4 with my younger cousin. We were playing Minecraft, and we hadn't saved the world yet. Before the error poppup happened, her chicken died and I had thought I saw someone--we were the only players--but it had to have been my imagination. We lost that world.
here’s one that’s sorta unrelated to this video: so I was playing Pac-Man and I was on level 256. I beat the level. And a bunch of jumbled up numbers and letters appeared. I didn’t play Pac-Man for a little.

I don't own a console that has a kill screen...
not one i remember having
linux kernel: "kernel panic - not syncing: (a message that says exactly what went wrong)"
windows: your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. were collecting some error info, and then well restart for you, if you need help look up this error code
consoles: YOUR CONSOLE IS GONNA DIE IF YOU WONT STOP PRESSING B AND YOU WILL DIE TOO

You scare the living fuck out of me when you screamed in ur mic
But these sparked an interest in me.
thank you for uploading my dude
"Barney error" got me rolling on the floor
Basically a barney error is when your doing something on your computer and then suddenly "OH NOES BARNEY WAS KILLED BY (insert character here) AND HE PUT A BOMB IN HIS LAIR THAT WILL EXPLODE UR COMPUTER IN 193 HOURS!!!!
I've always been afraid of the Windows crash screens, and still get unsettled today, mainly because it happens unexpectedly, imagine:
You're minding your own business, doing whatever on your Windows 10 PC, then suddenly-
:(
Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.
It's almost a jumpscare, and... the frowny face doesn't really help either.
You know, it feels atmospheric when it happens when you play Cyberpunk (spoiler alert: it happens a lot😂)
*Me hearing the music and everybody's asleep and the killscreen* *Legit 𝘚𝘏𝘈𝘒𝘐𝘕𝘎*
Have you seen the Emergency Alert System scenario videos? They're in varying quality but I think they're fun as hell
Wow. Some people make truly authentic screens, and some just go completely off the deep end and into the Mariana Trench.
Now I know how to make a kill screen, try to make it as believable as possible and then just throw in some obscure piece of text screaming at you or barney the dinosaur... makes perfect sense
"We're gonna play some fucking PS3" I am dead goodbye now
Yuor xbock has dead hav a gr8 dai
Original Xbox dashboard is more creepy then some of these videos, yet it's not fake and it's fairly functional for 2001... And the consistency is even more weird when after this menu, you gonna play something like GTA SA...

iceypie: how do you look at this and say its from the wii
me: even if you said "how do you look at this and know what console its from" i would still know its from the wii because it says "ensure that your wii is in a cool place"
a video on a topic never thought it would happen
And the PS1 doesn't need a creepy kill screen mockup because PS1 already has spoopy shit
Honestly, yeah
I'm very unsettled by the unusual, such as when something boots up weird
I love the unusual. It’s basically why I’m really into surreal/experimental art.
@@nuclear_blue AGREED It's genuinely really good at unsettling you
I actually saw one of them idk when, but I genuenly got freaked out because of how real it is.
The original one scared me, mostly the spike in loudness of the ambient music at the end with the word DEAD in red flashing quick as fuck.

If you delete some boot files you will get a error screen saying its broken
I was on my nintendo switch and then a video of a Nintendo switch kill screen came up. I couldn't sleep that night.
i had to reset windows for my pc once, since everything was failing
it was very shitty
side note: not too long ago, i tried booting up my pc and it said "no bootable decive" i thought i was dead, but yo boi just turned the pc off and on again.
“your console is broken we will not tell you why but DONT TURN YOUR CONSOLE ON!!!! ok thanks”
holy sh- i havent watched iceypie for like a year or two and

I actually killed my PS 3 one time. It always crashed on the Startup
That Barney error is going to haunt my nightmares
I used to be into these. I remember a now deleted vid about the N64 and a bunch of others from the same creator!
I had a kill screen happen to my DSi, but it happened while I was using it, I was about 6 when it happened, but I was playing a frikkin Headstart game (I think that was the name of the brand) and clicked on my progress and apparently that was just enough to destroy my DSi
this made me fall down a massive rabbit hole after seeing an xbox 360 console error
I knew I was not the only one that loves kill screen videos
“Consult The Manuel”
Sounds a bit familiar.

I must consult with the elder gods
Tbh when I first saw the word kill screen, I instantly thought about the scp memetic kill screens
blazourus (or however youre supposed to spell it) does incredible ones
Bro casually made Wii Deleted You and decided to make a silly error screen video. Legend
oh no i will be beaten up by Ken Kutarogi himself.
it reminds me of another unknown small genre of videos where people purposefully "corrupt" retro games like Arkanoid, even their Game Over screens, and mind you I have a really strange fear that ever since I was born, I'm just so soooo scared of NES Game Over screens, the text is so ominous, the track playing for the Game Over screen is usually in downtempo and really just scary, even to this day where i'm 21 years old, so trying to watch these fake killscreens and those "corruption" videos I just mentioned is like attempting to make myself fall into coma but repeatedly getting terrified of ominous console sounds and creepy NES font texts : ^)
Reminds me when I was playing the PS4 with my younger cousin. We were playing Minecraft, and we hadn't saved the world yet. Before the error poppup happened, her chicken died and I had thought I saw someone--we were the only players--but it had to have been my imagination. We lost that world.
I always wanted to see old console kill screen. But more realistic and more creepy. But only with console corruption sound.
Lately, anti-piracy screens have become a spin-off of that subgenre.
Barney does default dance
I love when he says ken kutaragi
The loudest fatal error screen I heard of is tor the ps3 at 15k hertz
I just stumbled upon those then saw this
Not on a console. But I had a laptop's harddrive fail and corrupt the entire OS.
Homebrew bricked my old Wii I got in 2015. I got a new one a few months ago.
"Ok your xbock is die now have a great day"
How polite.

It makes the machine feel alive
Ethan0206 started the barney error trend and that's is why the video "ps3 unknown kill screen ft. Barney error" was made.
here’s one that’s sorta unrelated to this video: so I was playing Pac-Man and I was on level 256.
I beat the level. And a bunch of jumbled up numbers and letters appeared. I didn’t play Pac-Man for a little.
