My son wants to take HIS291 and HIS292 as he enters his second year. Were either of these the Latin America course that you took? Read that the prof for HIS292 is great, at least on Rate My Professor.
I took HIS292H1 (Latin American History: The National Period) which was taught by Prof. Luis van Isschot, literally one of the kindest and best professors I've ever had. I loved the course, especially how there was the option to do the tutorial in Spanish if you were a fluent speaker/reader - I didn't do that but it was amazing for that option to be there.
@@bela.at.trinity Fantastic news about the great prof. My son's dad is from Spain and; although they spoke in Spanish since he was born, he never wrote in it. He took one high school class for Spanish. He did do the U of T test for Spanish and they determined his level was B2(upper), but not sure if he will take a Spanish course in his years as he is hoping to a double major in history and stats. He was accepted to the history major program but needs to do calc courses to apply for the stats program in the second year. In the meantime, it is a minor. Did you join clubs? He did not go the HSA route or the various UN clubs. His club is the SKULE Strategy Gaming Club. War games simulation. History and battles. Loves it!
I recently read Pachinko by Min Jin Lee which I thought was a really interesting account of the Japanese colonial occupation of the Korean Peninsula and the aftermath following the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings. It’s like the other side of World War II that we’re never taught in the west. Would def recommend if you’re interested in East Asian historical fiction. Another good Korean historical fiction novel I liked was The Mermaid from Jeju by Sumi Hahn.
Pachinko has been on my to-read list for yearsssss! I might have to pick it up soon then :) The Mermaid from Jeju sounds incredible, thanks for the rec
I love it, it's a ton of reading. Reading essays or primary source documents like treaties, analyzing events/culture/themes, ummm I don't know it's just super interesting and I love writing essays and doing historical research.
queen giving the world much needed book content while wearing an iconic shirt
Great recs! Many of these I’ve read and enjoyed. Isabel Allende is high on my list to try.
can't wait to continue to watch the video!
Yayyy finally more HF videos on RUclips! It's my favourite genre by far but most people avoid it :c
literally the best genre ever, no competition
THE HENNA ARTIST - one of the ones next on my list!
