Good coverage as always. Thank you. No one ever mentions that he rings make putting the controller down on any surface rally easy. Without the rings when you're swapping between hands and controllers it causes the swap to become intermittent if you move. So I hope any non ring controller turns off all activity from motion once it's out down. I'm worried about these new controllers for that reason as well as your ones.

VRC is one of the few 100% unrestricted and free things on the internet, it’s like the Wild West with literally no rules or barriers, please let it stay that way
@Phi No, I'd say it's better. I've played VRChat for 2k plus hours and NeosVR for only around 650ish hours, and in my opinion Neos Is better. It's definitely more complex than VRChat and there is quite the learning curve to it but that doesn't mean you have to learn it, you can play the game perfectly fine without that knowledge. Other than doing the tutorial (Which apparently a lot skip) and being shown how to edit an avatars texture or how to import an avatar you don't need anything else. I really want to go on but I'm busy, may add stuff later.
If VRC grows big enough it will get more restrictions, so enjoy it while it lasts. The only thing that will be unrestricted will be WebXR where creators can host their worlds on their own servers.
I really hope VRChat does the creator economy properly, if it's done wrong it could end up like roblox where almost every game is a cashgrab. They have said that they're aware of that and would not want VRChat to be like that, but tupper has also said in a dev update comment that pay to win worlds will be allowed... So I guess we'll see
@@schmecklin377 I mean currently a lot of world devs, including me, make their money from patreon. It's completely optional and the rewards are mostly cosmetic as a thanks. I really hope it stays that way

I'm definitely in the camp of more FOV and more FPS over more pixels. The Q2 full resolution when plugged into PC is totally fine, but the FOV makes it feel like I'm locked into tunnel vision that makes me not want to play
the creator economy has the potential to be good for the community, however, with many of the examples you gave, things often get out of hand really fast because people can't resist exploiting anything related to money, 2000$+ skins and clothing items, pay to win games, etc. and on the horizon, it seems that Vrchat might start looking a lot like Recroom, Roblox, or Second Life in the future, which is something I wouldn't say I like the idea of. I would rather get the whole unity project if I buy an avatar and not just the ability to use the avatar because I enjoy messing with the assets and personalizing the product that I pay for, I also would say there's nothing wrong with paid events but I would get very annoyed if a bunch of worlds start becoming expensive to even enter.
VRchat turning to a pay platform I think is dangerous. It's going down the same path as horizon worlds.. It's going to create a hierarchy between users, its going to create a more earth like feeling with lowerclass and upperclass users. I think it will negatively effect the average user and positively effect the creators.
@House Mouse Main Playing VRchat since 2018 on Quest and have almost never had issues with anyone, have had a lot of cool interactions with players though where people will change out their avatars if its overloading the Quest or even entire groups I only just met will world hop with me if the world we're in is starting to lag out the headset. Only disappointing interactions I've had are with a handful of tween-sounding players over the years.
One thing I loved about the index was that I could buy lens inserts for my prescription. It meant I could take my glasses off and experience the full FOV. I hope a lot of these new companies take that into consideration when building wider angle displays.
@@OrangeC7 The really bad part about it not having eye tracking is that it won't spread that way. @@rangerkayla8824 It would be nice to be able to use a Quest 2 headset. i clicked this video to see news on the quest 3, because i currently have a quest 1 from 2019 and was gonna get a quest 3 when the quest 1 goes out of service. this is looking real promising and im really excited for this headset to come out.
I see a lot of people claiming we don't need eye tracking in our headsets. Almost like they're saying "I dont know what it does for me, so I dont need it today"; yet, Eye tracking opens a whole lot of doors from performance to graphics - if you like self tracking controllers - then you like more options/control in whats going on. A lot of performance features for example could be added tomorrow if DFR was supported across all things. Go from a 30% dump to 60% bump both in performance and center visual graphics. Besides the lowering the res around the area our retna can't see in high defail, there are stuff we just havent explore into yet such as reduce static meshing for DFR, LOD using eye tracking vs just distant rendering, better culling on the objects, reduce RT/PT lighting from the whole screen to just the center focus ray casting, and soo much more. Not only would improve the performance from those be shifting it - it would allow more graphical power to be in the canter/where we are looking to have a greater visual power. Instead of looking at something in 720 like we do now - it could look 1080 to 1440p instead allowing them to use higher texture images from a reduce ram usage. Le alone you can use it for game play, menu UI, and many other things. Really eye tracking is a KEY for future VR we need today - not tomorrow. Esp for stuff like passthrough work spaces. You don't normally turn your head to look at a triple monitor setup - you glanced over to another screen to get its information - then back to the main monitor. You can't do that very well without eye tracking in place. There is also the fact it can help reduce the amount of data wirelessly that needs to be transported as well. The high cost of encoding, sending the data, and then decoding is large. By adding in that DFR you can start reducing the amount of physical data that has to be sent at all.
@@rangerkayla8824 Never talk about face tracking. Eye tracking it self doesnt consume much power considering how much you get back performance wise. The GPU sucks up way more power. The reason Quest PRo eye tracking does is because it is off loaded to another chip that then adds extra cycles/power cost. Quest Pro is more the exception than the rule there. Even then it still did add back 30% more performance ... thats still with in gains back if you just need a little extra battery for all the other stuff it can provide.

I look forward to your review of the Quest 3 when it's available. As someone who feels like the Quest 2's IPD is never right for me, and is always fiddling with the headset to get it in the fresnel sweet spot, the variable IPD and pancake lenses will be a huge improvement visually, even without any extra FoV or big resolution boost.
OMG That VRChat update is gonna be amazing. I have tried setting up avatars in Unity... while I can optimize the mesh and atlas the textures nearly flawlessly in Blender I still cannot figure out Unity. One Avatar I have was my main avatar for a time, but the eye and mouth tracking is just so much to set up when you don't have time to learn how to do so. I am looking forward to that update.
i am excited for the quest 3, if the passthrough and pancake lenses are as good as they say i would be more willing to use vr more often. i really like my quest 2 but i always have problems having a clear picture at all times which can get annoying.

i just want a headset that's build perfectly for beat saber with forehead ventilation
I wonder if i will be able to use the battery head set and prescription snap in lenses that I have for the quest 2.
VR first needs to focus on high Res and do wide field later. Image gotta be clear before we widen it.
Ey thrill, you saw that showcase. Not perfect, but goddamn excellent. Hope you’re as happy about it as I am!
I d been waiting for this video ❤😂
Honestly im pretty tempted to jump on this when it comes out
I would be so curious to try vr with a wide fov. I still use the first consumer version of the rift.
"huh it says Tuesday news day" "ITS WEDNESDAY NEWSDAY"
Dragon's Dogma 2 has me feeling a decade younger, even if years out I am already salivating.
This is the best next gen stuff I've ever seen.
Pretty sure the tracking dots are something for the prototype, hopefully.
They said they had some great results on controller tracking just using the headset camaras and mostly the controller gyroscope
Thrill the trailer droppeddd!!!
"My controllers' got no rings"
"How does it track?"
...
Hope you are doing well thrill
Great vid!
me when I decided to get back into vr, bought a quest 2, and then not even a week later I see the announcement for the quest 3 and i bought it a week before the price drop.
Great video!
As someone very into ranked BeatSaber, I'm a bit concerned about only two cameras and the new controller tracking. I worry they'd cause tracking errors when swinging high and fast. I also am not an expert, so I could be worried about nothing.
Very into ranked but not an expert? What?
Hi, Thrillseekeer, long time fan here. I have a question for you... How do you expect accessory compatibility to be with the quest 3? I wonder if the deluxe audio strap could work well with the 3...
Tuesday news day sounds way better LOL
I hope the upcoming headsets will include the Hypervision tech and eye tracking for performance reasons
