when Dream Catcher debuted they were branded as "dark gfriend" by the new sites. and Dream Catcher themselves said they were inspired by GFriend in both their sentimentality but especially their dancing. i feel like if you weren't around in kpop during 3rd gen times, it's hard to understand just HOW much GFriend influenced the dancing standard. they didn't only stand out because they could dance fast and sharp, they stood out because they were regularily doing a extremely difficult and unique style unlike anything seen before. compared to most girl group choreos their choreos were so much harder and dynamic and male idols couldn't wrap their head around how to seriously perform a gfriend choreography. something i personally admire is that the concept of GFriend is or was to show that being feminine, very femininen can be executed in a way that insists on being powerful.
My favourite bridge is also from them, the song is 'Sunrise', btw it's also my favourite song, the song is so good (you'll get there) but from the bridge it's sooooooo 😫 Heavenly good

UMJI's transformation is just phenomenal. At that time the girls looked a bit alike and I had a hard time telling them apart except for UMJI. She was criticized a lot for her looks at that time, just like Gahyeon from Dreamcatcher. Rough is a song that took me on an exciting adventure with such a wonderful band GFRIEND! I fell in love with the orchestra that sounded throughout the song. It was like she let me spread my wings and fly. Tears in my eyes, goosebumps on my skin, but my heart is so warm. You are absolutely right when you said that the music video is so simple, but it has such a deep message.
GFriend is a whole universe hehe they tell a story throughout the different MVs... Basically they started as friends in Highschool at some Point they got like powers, then envy made them take different roads, later on they missed each other and the all times... with Apple they are like accepting their Witchiness and MAGO is Maturing and self-love, love for each other.
Rough was my first song from GFRIEND and overall GFRIEND was amongst my first biggest group when i've started to get into K-Pop. Time For The Moon Night was my favorite song from them, till MAGO was released. However, i couldn't enjoy it as much as i wanted to....well because it was a 'Disbandment Song' and whenever i've heard it, had to skip because i'd cry like a baby. So if you'll ever want to watch more GFriend, I would recommend these two songs along with Glass Bead (their debut) and Navillera (I just love this song). There is a story line in most of GFRIEND songs especially fingertip, Sunrise and Crossroads as if they are a continuation of Time for the Moon Night. At first I thought that Eunha was dead or a ghost or something, then after that I thought that all the girls are dead except Eunha and so she is left alone and sad, but then I realized that Eunha has powers and uses butterflies to go back in time or travel between time periods to reunite the girls (I think the old-Buddy understand what I mean, we were trying hard to figure out the story). As for Apple, many say it is different from GFRIEND songs (which is largely true), but there is also a similarity because of the glass bead and the butterfly. There are also two videos that explain the story a little bit. And I hope you see their new song that was released today (Season of Memories). It's wonderful and emotional, as if it's the end of their story. I was crying. The song is indescribable. The voices, music, dancing, and MV are all wonderful. 🥹♥️♥️

Watching and listening to Rough now really hits even harder. Knowing that they’re back‚ the lyrics always makes me emotional. I have always been positive and held on to the part of the song where they’ve said “Even if we get lost in time‚ we will end up together somehow.” and it feels like I have been manifesting them coming back for so long.

Just a little factoid gfriend never actually disbanded, their contract just ended and Hybe stopped doing things with them. Sowon (the leader) has said a couple times that they didn’t disband there were just some rumors and everyone just took it as fact 😅. Their prerelease season of memories came out on the 6th and they are coming back on the 13th with a new album!!
As themself say, they are not disbanded. Their contract just has been terminated, but the group Gfriend is still valid. Members of Viviz still believe that Sowon is their leader (even she is not Viviz member)

Time For The Moon Night was my favorite song from them, till MAGO was released. However, i couldn't enjoy it as much as i wanted to....well because it was a 'Disbandment Song' and whenever i've heard it, had to skip because i'd cry like a baby. But now, now that after FIVE freaking years, they are back...with a new song...which means....MAGO is not their 'disbandment song' anymore and i can jam to it FULLY....tho i still shed tears! :D
Actually... Mago came out in 2020. And Gfriend disbanded in 2021. So, I think it would be mostly 4 years but 5 it's pretty accurate too.

I can't believe that, after all these years, I just realized that the strings in the chorus of "Rough" are almost 100% what we hear at the beginning of "Navillera."
The butterfly and the crystal ball that you saw in Apple, also appear in MVs for Fingertip and Crossroads. They first appear in Fingertip which is really interesting because both Apple and Fingertip are songs that are really different from usual GFriend sound. Fingertip and Crossroads MVs are connected and Crossroads came out right before Apple. So if you'll ever want to watch more GFriend, I would recommend these two songs along with Glass Bead (their debut) and Navillera (I just love this song). But all of their songs and MVs are exceptionally good

There is a story line in most of GFRIEND songs especially fingertip, Sunrise and Crossroads as if they are a continuation of Time for the Moon Night. At first I thought that Eunha was dead or a ghost or something, then after that I thought that all the girls are dead except Eunha and so she is left alone and sad, but then I realized that Eunha has powers and uses butterflies to go back in time or travel between time periods to reunite the girls (I think the old-Buddy understand what I mean, we were trying hard to figure out the story). As for Apple, many say it is different from GFRIEND songs (which is largely true), but there is also a similarity because of the glass bead and the butterfly. There are also two videos that explain the story a little bit. And I hope you see their new song that was released today (Season of Memories). It's wonderful and emotional, as if it's the end of their story. I was crying. The song is indescribable. The voices, music, dancing, and MV are all wonderful. 🥹♥️♥️

Watching and listening to Rough now really hits even harder. Knowing that they’re back‚ the lyrics always makes me emotional. I have always been positive and held on to the part of the song where they’ve said “Even if we get lost in time‚ we will end up together somehow.” and it feels like I have been manifesting them coming back for so long.

GFRIEND tiene una historia muy interesante… pero el desenlace según cuenta la historia es que son brujas. Es más, el último mini álbum se llama “Walpurgis Night“
GFRIEND no solo se caracteriza por tener un concepto único si no que también todas las miembros son ***All Rounders*** es gracioso porque comenzaron en una agencia tan pero tan pobre que ni baño tenían.
La agencia era tan pobre que Yuju la vocalista principal se encargaba de entrenar al resto de las miembros, y en cuanto al baile Sinb era la única que recibía la coreografía y ella instruía al resto. En conclusión… es demasiado curioso que siendo un grupo con muchas limitaciones son conocidas como las Reynas de la sincronización… inventaron en 2X Speed en Weekly Idol y sus coreografías son conocidas por INTERPRETAR la letra de la canción. En cuanto a los vocales casi todas las canciones tienen mínimo una High Note, no solo por Yuju, en su momento Eunha, Yerin, Sinb, Umji tienen high notes.
Otra cosa interesante es que la producción de su música no sigue tendencias, si bien es cierto que han optado por variantes diferentes, el sonido de GFRIEND es único. Tienen un sonido particular de anime, ots al cual siguen siendo fieles.

Just a little factoid gfriend never actually disbanded, their contract just ended and Hybe stopped doing things with them. Sowon (the leader) has said a couple times that they didn’t disband there were just some rumors and everyone just took it as fact 😅. Their prerelease season of memories came out on the 6th and they are coming back on the 13th with a new album!!
