When you have animals, they come first. Vacations must be planned around them and you must cultivate a competent caretaker for them for when you are gone. My partner did not like it when I left her with all the horses and dogs to spend the holidays with my folks. I took care of everyone when she was gone, which was not all that often. Once she had to leave fast when her mother died in Ohio and drive up filling the crew cab truck with relatives on the way. I held down the fort very well. Agisting, you can come and go freely but that costs money and you miss out on so many things that are so positive. Who would want to board out a favorite dog or cat? I boarded out horses and they never got close to me physically or emotionally. I gained much more than I lost by being tied down.
