Gordon just casually sharing his dirty mat contact horror story after watching Canuto do the exact same thing had me rolling 😂
This match was fun to watch, but imagine if it had the slanted walls from CJI. It’s a good example of a match where they would have probably really improved the experience for the viewers a lot.
they got to build that ramp!
Its absolutely ridiculous to have a pro event and still use an open mat space.
i agree. no excuse for it.
i was going to comment the same thing how is that even possible they thought this was fine
If Nolf ever trains BJJ full time he’s going to shoot straight to the top
Still can’t believe Renato put that contact back in his eye 😨
someone literally died from that exact thing, staff in the eye spread to the brain
@@user-vc6 where did you hear that? when gordon literally mentioned it in the match lol?
he should know better.
@@user-vc6when and where?
@@decidingpaper6324few months ago in some random gym
Man what a sore winner. Nolf is a beast and is damn good for how long he has been learning.
what.... he didn't say anything bad about Nolf. Nolf did run away from the sub 🤷🏻♂️
@@liukang85 he said he should have taken him down he wasn't that good
Nolf has been training for a long time
I've got Nolf winning by 4 stalling calls by the end.
Wich belt he have?
When Nolf makes that breakthrough he'll be the best he's still holding back out of caution
Where was the stall calls on Renato when Nolf had 3-4 takedown attempts to Renatos 0. They need to add wrestling stall calls into the point system. If you back up and are on constant defense that’s stalling.
Sick match! Fun to watch. Good action the whole time!
“Could have taken him down he’s not that good” is a wild take after not shooting the whole match and getting shot out of bounds a bunch of times
Both guys are absolute dogs ! congrats to both
slams should be allowed if the attacker holds on to the sub
I think it should be 1-2pts for a high-elevation pick up (like the one in this video), then you get reset standing or standing/seated. If you have the ability to slam someone dangerously, that *should* count. I think currently, allowing the slam would just be detrimental to the athletes, because FAR too many don't train to disengage/counter for slam safety (sportJJ mentality). However, after a few years of people being conditioned to actually protect themselves (not have the rules protect them), then I can see allowing slams.
What a great match. Canuto always brings it.
Ever since his grappling match at CJI, Nolf and his brother won me as a fan. Love to see more this guy in competition.
Nolf is boring as fuck, horrible wrestling to BJJ crossover, how many big name or even half decent BJJ guys has Nolf beat, a big fat 0.
Honestly I’m starting to think the opposite. He’s exciting but for how high level of a wrestler he is you’d think he’d have more bjj down by now
@ Good point. It’s a growing frustration I have with high caliber wrestlers like chandler, Cejudo, and merab.
@@SuperRiccoSuavehow many bjj guys have crossed over into high level wrestling? plus renato couldn’t sub him. basically a white belt by ibjjf standards and he went the entire time with a seasoned black belt. if it were a wrestling match Nolf would pin him 10/10 times
Your thinking of tackket
Canute talking shit after scoring ZERO points is comical, while Nolf dumped you on your head 3-4x…lol stfu
They were both in CJI - Where all the grapplers who are serious were.
???
Hey I dunno if you know there’s this thing called ADCC. And it was on the same day 😂 in the same city. 😂😂😂
CJI isn’t coming back until next August, I’m kinda disappointed
@@halebryan9155 I've heard of it, but is it an amateur competition? All the best grapplers in the world were at this other tournament called CJI on the same day!
Take downs from feet to ground in any position need to count for something as should escapes from ground to feet. And any guard pulling should count as points for the top person.
In a way, this is already the case. If you take them down and HOLD, you get points. If they immediately escape, there is 0 points. So you could think of it like 2 for the takedown, and 2 for the guy escaping... resulting in 0 change. Either way, it's 0pts difference.
I like the idea of points for doing something useful. But I fear this would cause VERY boring matches - they'd play patty-cake for several minutes, very fearful of allowing takedown points. Then one guy would eventually (maybe toward the end) shoot and get points. The bottom guy probably wouldn't try to submit or sweep, he'd just try to cancel out the points by standing back up. So it'd just be a boring game of keeping distance, and disengaging, both standing and on the ground.
The negative points should only matter in the case of a draw, Jason should have won
You don't get to ignore the ref repeatedly to avoid a submission and get away with it.
Dude's a douche. For sure won't be on another one of these cards.
@@slinkytreekreeperyou have no idea what your talking about..bjj guy was a douch
Slams would really change sub grappling and make grapplers better prepared for MMA. Also, any type of takedown where your back hits the mat should count for something.
For freestyle wrestler Jason had good grappling skills
Great match, very exciting. Again, Gordon has the best BJJ commentary in the business. With this leave of commentary, BJJ is watchable. Gordon wanted to make BJJ great for the average watcher, I think this is the way he needs to go about doing it. He is proving the be the real GOAT in BJJ! (Note: I didn't like Gorgon in the beginning but is talents have won me over)
Wrestlers can move into jj and reach a relatively high level. Maybe not always within 2-3 years, but within a relatively short time. Very few if any jiujitsu players can reach a high level in wrestling later in life. I think it will be interesting to see Nolf’s progress in jiujitsu.
"Very few if any jiujitsu players can reach a high level in wrestling later in life." Wrestling is to BJJ what boxing is to Muay Thai. If you train and become high level of a sport that is a subset of another, of course you'll be able to transition and be good in the other sport, but if you switch it around you're now imposing limitations on what you're trained for. That's one of many reasons why no one transitions into wrestling; it's a sport to move out of not into.
these stupid idea needs to be abandoned asap. This IS NOT a high level of jj by nolf. This is high level stalling by nolf. Boring shit
@@loomaoo LOL no adult can ever transition into wrestling. All of these bjj guys who think they can wrestle would get tech falled in under a minute in a wrestling match. Every single one of them.
@@xtremfailer7986 Well, he almost won against a top bjj guy. The opposite would never happen in wrestling.
@@xtremfailer7986get your eyes checked, nolf brought it. 90% of ibjjf matches are guys butt scooting to leg entanglements and spinning out of bounds OR seeing who can sit to their ass to wrap up a lapel and hold their opponent to sweep with 30 seconds left on the clock. it's a complete snooze fest. renato and nolf did the dance and both came forward here. it was a great showing by both
@17:49 what up Tyler!! The taekwondo kid gettin pumped!
They should have restarted them in the triangle. Nolf got caught and should have to escape the submission to get out.
Dude Renato really picked up his contact lens and put it back in his eye. WTF.
I love canuto. But you should get points for pushing someone out of bounds in standing or being pushed out of bounds while standing should get you an L straight away. You can’t takedown a guy who’s not pressuring back in unless there’s a HUGE skill gap
Was that Bart Kwan?
UFC cant afford bigger mat space for these events?
😉😉👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷🔥🔥
This is the worst ruleset ever
What kind of fight is this? You fight to submit but you both don’t want to engage.
Nolf wrestling too much. Fun to watch though
ive done that plenty of times
this sport is absolutely garbage with this ruleset and matspace. How are you supposed to score takedowns when the opponent does not engage and runs away from every shot. but when he sits down you have to engage. its literally no action, barely shots subs etc... freestyle and ima is so much more interesting cause of the ruleset
Your aloud to grab the ear??
Why didnt nofl get points for the takedown in the first round 7:44
Points are only awarded during overtime.
no bro not the contact
terrible scoring system
These two should take some wrestling clinics. I know high-school wrestlers who would have given them a run for their money😅
Zero positive points… need the CJI pit in all grappling matches.
Wrestlers are good. Powerful, athletic, strong. They just don't have the submission ability against high level BJJ practitioners. I really dislike the direction No Gi BJJ has gone in recent years. Very sloppy greco matches with collar ties for 5 minutes trying to wear the opponent down. Kind of hard to do jiujitsu though when your opponent wont engage the guard at all. They should do some Gi matches as well.
100%, Some GI matches would be very good
What a small mat. lol
Jesus ref don’t keep him in bounds. Let him know about the point deduction and get out of the way.
stupid point system...lol
Another in the long line of unwatchable wrestling vs BJJ disasters. We have got to stop giving high profile matches to guys who don't know BJJ
Why are these not in a cage???
Nolf 1
Canuto 0
renato canuto RIP to the eye. just foolish
Scoring is dumb. Bold clearly dominated. Fix the scoring or this thing is dead before it starts.
This rule set is very anti-wrestling.
To be fair, Nolf out scored him. If he hadn’t walked the guy out of bounds to escape the triangle he wouldn’t have lost so many points
@@HachiFPSslem should be legal. Mma shows time and time again that hanging on or pulling guard from the front in actual practice is dumb
@@andrewcastaneda9382 Yeah but it’s still a solely Jiu Jitsu ruleset. Like how you can’t head kick someone in boxing, you can’t slam to get out of a submission.
I agree hanging on or guard pulling isn’t quite practical for MMA, but this just isn’t that sort of competition.
@ truth
@@HachiFPS In ADCC pro division you can slam to get out of submission. It could be that sort of competition and it would make sense.
This is what grappling should be. No freaking buttschufflers!!!!!
The rules are ass
The rules are ridiculous. Lamest thing since slap fight.
This. Is the dumbest form of grappling I’ve ever watched. It’s not jits. It’s not wrestling. It’s not fighting. It’s just…meh. Even the spectators are hardly paying attention.
In a sport where you can break your opponent’s bones and tear there muscles… why tf can’t you slam? So stupid. Jason could have “powerbombed” and KO’d the dude.
You really don't know why in some rulesets you can't powerbomb your opponent? Any guess?
submissions have some tap time, so its usually not instant injury.. especially spine or neck injury ( though some twisting kneelocks are admittedly quick to injure )
the truth isrenato wouldn't have held the triangle if slams were legal like in adcc, he's fought in adcc
....... people think slams would change jiu jitsu but there's been comps with slams and its rarely ever seen, its just not effective if the person underhooks or just lets go
With room to move and CJJ rule set that would be cool but in this couple meter squared it would be dangerous to say the least.
He would have slammed him right into a tight triangle and been asleep in seconds.. foh
Bc u can KO the dude, you just said it that’s why is called submission grappling where there is no k’o only subs and grappling kinda dumb ur comment
Why do grapplers were lenses? You don’t need 20/20 vision when grappling.
Look up what the world looks to somebody with bad eyesight and come back
@ get on the mat and see how much it matters.
@@richardhead2318 yeah maybe in a standard BJJ match with lots of physical connection. But in a match like this? They were mostly disengaged and clawing at each other for ties. Vision becomes just as important as in striking in this case, as you have to evade swinging ties/clubs.
To see rhe score board
Fighting with eye contact !? what the ? nothing ultimate about this fight.
