Carrying another person your size is almost always going to be difficult even if they are underweight. Shikimori is at least smart enough to realize this and didn't want Izumi to push himself for her sake.

Everyone who previously criticized this show because they thought Izumi was weak, what do you have to say about this?
EDIT: To everyone replying that they weren't just talking about physical strength, I'm not just talking about physical strength either; this scene clearly shows how strong he really is in more ways than one.
The criticism wasn’t about his physical strength (this is anime it just isn’t realistic) people didn’t like him because he is scared/cries at horror movies at like 16

@@tameoregano5006 What about the classic shonen protagonist scared of ghosts at 16-18? Those moments are considered comedy and it shouldn’t be taken seriously.
@@Zero-fx8pc that’s gags (they aren’t funny)but they aren’t played as serious moments it’s like when the main protagonist gets punched it’s not taken as a real moment but that was a scene that wasnt a gag but a actual part of his character
@@tameoregano5006 But it was supposed to be funny there was build up since the moment he said he wanted to look manly and started to think about scenarios where he looked cool protecting Shikimori, people took it way to seriously.
One thing is scenes like that which aren’t serious and scenes like the fireworks one right here which aren’t comedy.
Its unfortunate people don't like him because he's not very masculine. Thats exactly why I like him.

I haven't watched this anime, but have seen clips, and was honestly shocked they didn't have him being too weak or tripping constantly. To the point where Shikimori just grits her teeth and walks. I'm actually debating on picking this up because I'm happy to see that he doesn't stay the same person he was portrayed at the beginning of the show

Izumi's determination to make this climb to a secret spot on the night of the festival is giving me some Sound Euphonium flashbacks.
One of my favourite scenes from this episode. Izumi and Shikimori really are a cute couple.

It was only until just recently that I found out people didn't like Izumi and I never understood why. Yeah he was rough at the beginning, but that's literally just character building. Starts out one way, and then becomes better. Almost as if this anime is trying to tell a story or something. Imagine that. 🤦🏾♂️

How? Given what happens to him every episode, an exercise bike would break, a treadmill would probably snap, he'd probably lose the dumbbells, etc.
Carrying people up stairs like that is quite difficult. Your center of gravity is behind you and you're moving upwards.
