Ailton is well known here in Germany not only by Bremen Fans. He looked rather overweight but was very fast (yes, that is odd indeed) and his ability to score goals was just stunning.
Yes, just look at the history of Bayer Leverkusen. They were once called the brazilian bridge before they went to the Worldclass teams. Jorginho, Paolo Sergio, Ze Elias, Ze Reborto, Lucio, Juan, Emerson and many more
i don't think he's well known in the UK at all, that's probably because we don't follow European leagues closely (speaking generally i know there will be exceptions in the UK) and also he's not well known at international level
@@michael8815 We don't follow other leagues closely either. Don't worry. I am quite sure the comment section couldn't even bring together all clubs from the English and Spanish Leagues without googling...

Ailton arrived to Monterrey, Mexico to play for Tigres UANL (1998) right before leaving to Germany. Tigres was in serious danger to be relegated to the 2nd division. Ailton understood this right away, and lead the team's offensive. He played each game as if it was the last game of his life. He played only one season but still beloved and remember by the Tigres fans. If you have a chance, check his highlight videos with Tigres.
Well tbh I think there is one more cheered player in Bremens history and he's even mentioned here. I'm pretty sure everyone in Germany knows Ailton. He was a legend in the early 2000s, such an odd little man. Just by looking at him, you would've never guessed his profession. The guy was a true phenomenon.
Those who are old enough but not remember Ailton - Klasnic - Micoud trio are not true bundesliga fan. They run the league rampant in that 03/04 season.
Ailton, what a player. I remember us going unbeaten in 03/04 and checking to see who was close enough to Henry. I remember seeing the name Ailton and was like, who's this fella. What a player! The Brazilian Golden Boot Winner EVERYONE in germany likes and heard of... One of the few players that were really liked by most fans, not only by his team Bremen.

Jardel scored a beautiful goal, dribbling past the colorado defense with a rabona 1-2, putting the ball between the legs of Inter Right back Jonilson and hit it hard, putting it in the back of the net to secure gremio the win at the Porto Alegre Derby after the match, Aílton Boca de Cinzeiro was sold to Cruzeiro.
