- German Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Hubertus Heil is in India for a meeting of G-20 labour ministers where he wants to put the spotlight on improving conditions of workers worldwide.
Another important aspect of his visit is to encourage skilled professionals from India to come to Germany. He says Germany’s new immigration law makes it easier for students and professionals to move to Germany.
In an exclusive interview with Minister Heil, DW’s Delhi Bureau Chief, Amrita Cheema, began by asking him why Germany looking for skilled workers from outside Germany?

Those days are gone bruh. Salaries in india are so high now, on par with EU and UK, that with the low cost of living and booming tech scene at home there is very little incentive for an Indian to move to Germany etc.
So true.
Then why is Canada flooded with Indians every year, in 2022 more than 120,000 arrived. Also here in the Netherlands we have an average of +12,000 Indians every year and this number is increasing faster every year.
@@justinds6345 Those aren't skilled Indians (probs driving taxi, or low pay routine computer jobs), more and more % of highly skilled Indians (and number of those being produced is increasing as well year over year) are choosing to stay back in the country now, as compared to 10 years back.
@@timetraveler_0 You are lucky, in the UK and America, Indians belong to the most highly educated population, above the whites, Pakistanis and other population groups. I think India is currently experiencing the fastest development of all countries in terms of wealth.
@@justinds6345 ur countries treat illegal immigrants better than legal immigrants.
Most illegal immigrants gets citizenship whereas legal ones dont get it even after staying for years.
German govt encouraging Indians to come to Germany, highly skilled people means that they would be working for around 10-15 years already, maybe German govt or German people don't know that wages are quite high for highly skilled people in INDIA as well and the struggles to live in Germany are many starting from learning a new language to having unwelcoming attitudes as we can see in the comments already to high taxes and nearly peanut savings, so to dear DW and the commentators below, no skilled worker from India is interested to come and even if they come riding on the good reputation which Germany as a country enjoys in India, they leave very quickly once they are here, please ask your govt to release a data of how many highly skilled Indians have come to Germany and how many have stayed behind, there are undoubtedly more Indian students coming to Germany and they have more chances to stay back as they are in early or mid twenties and have the bandwidth to accommodate but to expect a highly skilled person in his/her late thirty's to suffer in Germany when he is getting a good package back in India or in some English speaking country is nothing but a DREAM!!!
"Highly skilled" means having an advanced degree like Masters (in nursing, technology, etc.). Work experience not required.
@@politicallyincorrect1705 who says that, by that definition many "highly skilled" are not even getting 40K Euros here
@@rikagg1 That's the definition of "highly skilled" in the USA. I don't know if Germany has a different definition. Of course, lower wages for immigrants is a problem in many countries. In the USA, law requires employers to pay "prevailing wages" (same as local population) to immigrant workers before the state department will process their visas. Indians being "highly skilled" therefore have the highest income among all ethnic groups in America.

I don't think germany would be where Indian's wany to go. The lack of support for English language in Germany means they will go to other countries where English is supported.

That's right, America is the true dream of immigrants. EU is a big NO deal for english speakers. They should first stop forcing everyone else to speak their German language and accept the global English language.

Migration especially to a non English speaking country like Germany will not be a great choice for them.
Most Germans in the industry speak fluent English. If you know basic German to lead day to day life it's sufficient. It's only when it comes to children schooling etc. that Indian immigrants worry about.
I made a mistake migrating to Germany and now a german citizen. I felt excluded from the society. And the language is a challenge

Every nation loves their regional language, but the German case is different. They are too attached to their language and nothing else they care about, and if it strictly applied to internationalers, they would probably choose another country.
What do you expect then ? It's Germany they respect their language and culture.
It is also the second most spoken language in Europe next to Russian. There are many Germanic countries. German is also practiced by many South Americans. Japanese. Namibians. And you can hear plenty of it in The USA's Pennsylvania. Minnesota. Wisconsin. Or all the way down in Texas!

German tech and engineering is one of the best in the world comparable to US or Japan. Its obviously the best place for core engineering and tech graduates like mechanical (automobile) engg and electrical engg. So many foremost companies in these field are from germany like VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Duesthe bahn, Bosch, Opel.....etc just to name a few. Indian and german collaboration in engineering and tech could make wonders. Personally being an engineering student, Germany in on the top of my list for higher( post grad) studies. Liebe und Respekt für Deutschland. India 🤝germany
It's a trap, Germany does not play fair for employees to get promoted in their workforce. They need techies from India to fill the middle belt. Also German society is so conservative that they don't want to integrate well with foreigners. Till date the old communities from Turkey could not integrate well with German society, they live as a separate community. Germany as a state is not a fair state.

Germany is great as a first step into the European job market until you realize it's not that great to stay for too long. They want specialized Indians that would accept half the wage while completely closing them off to German society.

The Indians I know here in Germany are content with life. Of course, there are problems, especially finding a good place to live, which is more difficult for all foreigners.
German Engineering is best in the whole world. If Indians can learn from them it will help our country to grow more.
Those days are gone bro. Germans have become lazy these days.
Young educated people in India have a prosperous future in India and other globally thinking modern countries. Unfortunately Germany is not the place, because the people are not open minded and every job expects you to speak fluent German at some point. Every time I clean my desk at work, my German colleagues comment, oh you have become German….. I mean 🤷🏻♀️….. Do your masters if you want in Germany then move out !
This is good if you like to come europe and be socially isolated with access only to your own Indian minority. The positive side is that you will have the freedom to practice your culture or religion but you will hardly integrate into the larger German society. Of course, it’s a spectrum but I think Germany is very low on this spectrum.

Austria accepts English or German as a language which gains points on the application for citizenship. Germany wants certain foreigners, but until recently required them to give up citizenship of the country of origin. This means visas for travelling to see parents, problems with property rights, long airport queues and so much more. Some 50 percent of those who come to Germany go elsewhere. Of the 12 British guys who came with myself and stayed for 5 to 10 year, only two opted to remain in Germany.

Indians skiled workers are in the us and uk in a less extent australia ( english speaking world ) it will be difficult for germany to attract them
Yes Modi and Scholz improve relations!
Indians love Germany 🇩🇪 🇮🇳❤️
Why is it that Germans say Indi-er, Australi-er, Afrik-er, ect. Even though in German, an "er" at the end of a word wouldn't even be pronounced with an "r" sound?
It's just a manner of speaking. We often make it sound more like an "A" at the End or more like an "Ah" Sound. Like "Australier" we speak it often as "Australia". It just rolls better, but still the right word is "Australier"
But we still say Afrika (the continent), there is no Afriker^^. "Afrikaner" would be the native to the continent, but we still sometimes speak it "Afrikana"
@@hokuhikene I meant when Germans learn and speak English. They pronounce words in English that end in an "a", with an "er" sound at the end. Which is surprising because words that end in "er" in German, don't actually have an "er" pronunciation. Germans have told this it is a clear sign that someone is a native English speaker, if when speaking German, they pronounce words ending in "er" as it would be in English, instead of pronouncing the "er" as "ay-ah".
@@firstsecond9569same reason really. Ones tongue is more comfortable with "er" than "a" or vice versa. Someone who speaks most of the time "Hoch Deutsch" (high German) is more likely to be more comfortable with "er" so it's hard for him/her to get rid of this while speaking english. Also it often comes to not beeing sure really. I mean it is always a struggle to speak in a language you're not fluent in. I would stuggle too. I mean, I can now say that I am pretty good at understanding and typing english, sometimes I even think in english. But when it comes to actually speaking it, I think I would just stumble over my own words at the realisation that what I said didn't sound like what I wanted to say. There is always a delay in realisation. So sometimes it may be better to just stop thinking about how something is supposed to sound and instead just speak the way you are comfortable with. Even if it sounds funny. We're aware how awkward we sound sometimes speaking english
India always loses talent to other countries . Brain drain . India is not a good country for educated and skilled youngsters .
He's a LIAR. Long hours at a discount, tell the people the truth.
This is good but once you come to Germany, you will feel zero support, unwelcomed and have difficulty in finding an accommodation. The university provides accommodation mostly to Germans and private home owners prefer Germans over Indians. I personally have stayed in bad conditions in Germany than I ever lived in India.
My 2 cents of suggestions if you really to come to Germany, brace for such abive mentioned hardships but if you can stay in India to lead your life goals then better live in a country surrounded by your loved ones and friends.
true
Why not just train natives?
Too expensive
they are HIGHLY trained, but these guys want CHEAP labor.
There are literally not enough people we need more people that includes cheap and experienced labour
Because without immigration our population is shrinking since the 80s and that's not very good if you need more young people to pay the already minimal Pension of seniors
not enough working age people in Germany, rapidly ageing society
Just setup offices in Poland and Ukraine and pay for lessons of German language for young people and adults 🤷♂️ it's that simple
Wouldn’t it be wiser to make higher education more available to your own people and not ask or rely on people from other countries for skilled labor. It sounds like the old global cheap labor card.
Exactly. All the governments in the West are too lazy and doesn’t have the political will to do this. They would rather just let millions of people in and totally disregard the effects of mass migration on society than to invest in its own people and have long term plans.
Let's have a look how this worked out.
