- The sweep in the harvestore gets frozen, so we have to break it loose! Didn't take us long to figure out that the reduction gearbox needs some work as well.

How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a RUclips channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Dogs are special creatures that always want to be part of what ever is going on.
Hey Andy Diesel ever get in chopper with ya

batmann2o yes when i was shoveling poo the horses just looked at me
Rocket seems like a real good supervisor . Stays calm and quiet but very alert
At least Rocket will help keep your feet warm. Mans best and loyal friend .
I remember around 25 years ago a lot of people in my area (NC) built those harvestore silos. They started getting called big blue tombstones because everybody that built them went bankrupt within a year. Many of them were either tore down and scrapped or just abandoned. It is interesting to see one still used. From one farmer to another good luck in your operation and in the coming year.
I wish i had an enclosed cab. That ball of snow that hit your windshield ends up in my lap. Lol
Cool channel you got! I just subscribed
Pushing snow looks like a lot more fun with an enclosed cab. Nice video
One of the happiest days of my life was when we stopped putting High moisture corn in a Harvestore silo. We now have a small airation tunnel in it and use it for dry corn. Fill it with a long auger.
I love the Rocket, nothing like a faithful, happy-go-lucky buddy to follow you around.
Farming, the 8 day a week job. Thanks for what you do every day ✊
No one thanks the dairy farmer's humph
@@jolenekostuch9143 I agree
Just a little slick out there. No one likes it when things break down or get stuck due to weather, but it's just a part of what you do, I suppose, and you deal with it. Thanks for braving the conditions to capture the footage. Rocket's such a ham.
I am sure someone else mentioned this, but tire chains would sure make your life easier! I put mine on in the beginning of winter, and they don't come off until spring. Rocket sure is a nice dog!!
Rocket you are spoiled big time must be pretty cozy in that cab with you in their Ryan and rocket LOL 👍
Lol
Winters were worse when I was younger, I believe the winters are just going back to heavier snowfalls. I'm 59 and grew up on a dairy farm in Upstate NY.
Travis is a bad ass in the skid loader. Thanks for the video Ryan.
Dogs are the greatest creatures on Earth. I have 5 dogs and I couldn't live without them
I love snow plowing videos around the farm!
Great video Ryan, I've got the same skid loader at work just with tracks, does a hell of a job clearing snow, hope you're keepin warm and kickin ass bud keep up the good work.
Love it that you have Rocket with you in the cab! He seems to enjoy it more than you. Great video Ryan!
We go 12inch up in northern Wisconsin. My dog dove straight into the snow banks and when she came out she was covered head to toe with snow LOL
Rocket sure is a special dog. Can’t help but love him.
thx for the nice video, once again ! Wish we had overhere in Belgium a lot of snow !!! Be carefull and drive safe all of you !
We borrow a Thomas once in a while and it has an add on track system that wraps around the tires, all metal so it's fine for coral work. We use loader tractor for all chores tho. Good luck on yer gearbox.
Nice video! Great editing. I grew up on a farm here in south-central Minnesota and miss a lot of things I did there when I was a kid.
Congrats on the 1 million views for the two videos. That’s awesome.
Always something on the farm needing fixing. Looking good Ryan and rocket. Gotta love your dog he’s a smart dog 🐕
Such a handy piece of kit that skid steer. Amazed there was room for Rocket lol.
You have the best videos!!!! Keep them coming😃👍🏻
Nevan J thanks, man
Chains really help on the skidsteer
And the truck too.
Great video and a nice spin move by travis in the bobcat lol sure cant wait for spring!!! Thanks for the video Ryan keep up the great work and stay safe out there and have a good one
Truly a man's best friend, Ye are getting it rough enough there Ryan, hope it getting a little better now:)
9:14....Holy Crap!!! Well done Travis!!!
You know what’s funny is that here in Florida we don’t need a bobcat with a windshield because we don’t get snow lol
those harvestore sweep augers do that all year round until you run it somewhat empty get in there & clean it out by hand. of course you can have harvestore company come do it they'll send out about 4 guys 1 works 3 stand around & the new F450 work truck runs all day long. whole winter 02-03 i chopped away at a frozen harvestore with a disk shaft to get my 1150 lbs corn per/day for the mixer batch. i don't miss it
Rocket must love riding in the equipment around the farm.😀
Hey Ryan, Awesome job on the videos. Rocket looks so cool in that bobcat with you.
A the good ole times of corn not coming out of the harvestore during the winter. We had a long pipe where we are try to have the good grain come down. We spent a few weekends in the summer trying to clean out a harvestore.
I know the pain Ryan, I work at CHS (the local elevator here in Brandon SD). Nothing wants to work right in the cold, We've had issues with our legs, conveyors, and equipment.
Great video! Rocket takes each day in stride 😊 best thing about this winter is we’re definitely on the down side of it Lol 🚜
You need a nice little salt spreader for a quad. Or maybe an old farm truck, something old and cheap like a 80's early 90,s Toyota 4x4 with a spreader on the back. Maybe even a plow.
Rocket is the Goodest boy. I wish my dog would be as nice as him
Looks like the Auger will need some repair, pick yourself up a rebuilt gear box, save time and be up and running!👍
Rocket will go with his "Daddy" anywhere!
That’s a lot of snow you got there. It got up to 70 degrees for me yesterday so obviously there’s no snow here! Lol. We haven’t had any snow all winter and now everything is trying to turn green with it being 70 degrees but I feel like it’ll freeze again.
Take the Bob cat and scoop up some loose dirt from inside the shed and spread it on the ice. That's what my brother does at his farm. It works great, and no buying salt.
Have you tested use fine (3/8") crusher run on ice? I make in Sweden some big piles in fall and put a tarp over them. Then you have it for spreading in winter. All yards and roads always need some more anyway in spring. We don't use salt at all on farm surfaces except in summertime for dust control (then only Calcium chloride). Salt is not so good for Rocket's paws, etc.
Definition of calcium chloride is - - - - - - - SALT. TA DA!!
@@dizbob6250 Yea, but this is not the mostly common chemical type as Natrium/Sodium chloride is. But you have right. Both is a salt and have function to melt ice or as a saline water solution also for dust control.

Hey Ryan I commented the other day and I can’t wait or the spring planting vids keep up the good work 👍🏻
Have you ever tried granulated kitty litter? That is what I carry around with me in the winter time and it has worked like a charm for me getting out of slippery spots.
Clearing all that snow
Chains for the skid loader will help significantly.
Have you fella's ever considered those metal tracks that fit over the tires for the skid steer?
Do your critters do a good job of grinding up their corn (aka not alot of kernels coming out whole from their other ends)? We run our corn through a quick roller mill to crack the kernels a bit and that really helped.
Great video! Had to think when you challenged us to figure who was Rocket and who was Ryan, then I remembered Rocket had red hair:) You lucky you can grow a full beard for the cold weather to help keep your face warm. Rocket is a great dog,
We don’t have snow like that in England and if we have any it isn’t called snow it’s called a miracle
Loader tractor is probably starting to sound pretty good out there...
The Great adventures of rocket and Ryan
Something that can sometimes help with ice is running a ripper. Score it up and get some traction.
We need a Rocket-mounted GoPro!
Video Ryan and who can't help Love rocket you're such a great dog man's best friend you will never find a cat in the world that loves a man like a dog and all that snow makes me thankful I move to Florida don't have to put up with that anymore be careful be safe
Question, my dude Ryan: Do you ever worry about those trees around your house? They split so low to the ground, I'd think a bad ice/wind storm would be disastrous.
Rockettttt! Such a good dog! He wants to be by dad.
Great videos Ryan! I also live in Wisconsin and was wondering if you've ever considered tire chains on your skid steer. We run a set on the rear wheels of ours and it makes a world of difference.
Skid steers suck in snow but they sure do beat shoving
All that snow up in Iowa I surprise he not have a snow blower to hook up to one of his larger tractors
Hi Ryan, I love your vlog!! Have you tried tire chains for the skid loader? Skids on ice are very difficult to operate and I wasnt sure if chains would help or not. Stay warm!
Great video, love that Rocket Man !!
I am a new subscriber this was an interesting video I like the way you have your four legged helper Rocket that is cool. I am an animal lover myself he seems to enjoy being out there with you.
We are in Upstate NY and it was actually raining here today
Unless Travis was around in the beginning of the video, Rocket is not only cute but pretty good at filming as well.;)
Rocket is such a beautiful dog best dog in the world
this is more like a Rocket video ha ha, if you have any sand or ashes, that would work for traction also. I like the safety tips in your video as a reminder to be safe on the farm.
My labe rides with me in the harvester and tractor and skid steer all most every day
Have y’all ever considered getting a snow pusher for clearing snow with the bobcat?
I'm also in Wisconsin. One of the places I work at lost power to half the building. I have a few tree's with branches that broke also
No wonder Wisconsin is out of salt for how much you are putting on the ground 😂
My dad was snowmobiling in grant county around dickeyville in 2008 and there was snow piled up 10 feet high along the road
Cold weather sure slows things down. We’ve been lucky hear in Michigan to have a few weeks of good weather.
Ya know...I disagree with warming up early, or repeatedly, once it’s winter. I’m in Michigan, too, and I wish things would freeze & STAY that way through winter. Getting 6-8” of snow, then 45-60F with rain, over & over, creates some REAL muddy slop, constantly. Ugh. We get plenty of mud around here in spring & fall, and I’d love to not have to deal with it through winter too.🤦🏻♀️
Very true the mud sure does make getting around the fields a pain
Why is it we Always give in to what our animals want? lol
Good job 👍🏻
Rocket the star of the show
Farmer for Life
Love Rocket!! More Rocket videos.
You have had a pretty cold winter, ha?😂
Broken when the weather is terrible? Noooooo, that never happens!

Are you guys vt all your ground this spring?
I have been watching your channel before you got real popular and your videos have inspired me to start doing some of my own!
I do not feel guilty for my 70-degree day, not one bit.
Rocket is a awesome dog. And good job an good luck Ryan
Find some crushed oyster shells ,throw under tires ,works for the class 8 truck I drive
Muy bueno, saludos desde argentina!!!
48 degrees and an inch of rain in Central Illinois yesterday, snows almost gone. Spring is coming?
Bobcats are awesome ... And so is Rocket 👍🏻
Harvest stores are a nightmare ...
You get snow and here in East Tennessee we are getting som much rain
How many acres do you have on the farm
Hey ya ever tried putting wood ashes down on the ice with the salt?? it works really good. not sure if ya burn wood or not?? I live in Northern Maine and burn wood!! Enjoy your videos! Thank You :);]
Put a set of chains on the rear of your skid loader, makes it like a new machine on ice and snow.
the grease worms ate that bearing up gotta watch those buggers
1 foot of snow in Tennessee we go 8 feet of rain
Love the vids
I do to
If it keeps snowing and blowing where ya gonna put it all afterwhile?
Cute dog!
Good Dog!! Ya nothing worse than ice !! No traction with any thing!!
