Even though anatomy is a part of what I'm studying at the moment, not just theoretically but also through dissections, I've never seen it that way. Keeping the form of the ribcage by itself in mind feels like a huge epiphany rn. Thanks!
I think the biggest thing that helped me in this video is that you don't just explain how to draw the shape, you explain both how it interacts with other parts of the body and the lengths/balances that the rest of the body adheres to. Its HUGE, at least for me, to understand where things are placed and why they are placed there. Please make many more of these.
I just wanted to come back here after a few months to thank you. Watching and following your tutorials has shown me visible improvement with my drawing. It is all coming together now.
Wow... The overcomplicated "Harry" gesture looks exactly like what I'd usually draw. This has honestly been one of my biggest problems when it comes to gestures and work flow and you explained it so simply. It gets to the point of being infuriating sometimes when I'm trying to just practice a bit of figure drawing. It's wild how a few tweaks to your approach and what you focus on can make a world of difference. Thank you so much for this upload.
This video has single-handedly taught me a lot about figure drawing and the mistakes Ive been making this whole time in the past few years Amazing video, thank you and love the work youre doing.
Thanks. That was a really interesting take on understanding the rib cage. Recognising the independence of the shoulder positioning from the positioning of the rib cage itself is one I've not heard stated as clearly before. I will keep it in mind from now on, and hope it will clarify a bunch of different extended poses.
This was so helpful. I usually struggle when it came to anatomy because i thought i need some type of special formula, but this right here really helped thank you.
I told you I'm an OLD DOG I I HAVE BEEN DRAWING ALL MY LIFE BUT LATELY I BEEN INPROVIN A LOT BECAUSE I'M SERIOUS ABOUT PRACTICE AND YOUR TEACHING THAT'S THE KEY SO GRACIAS
i like how you showed practice example of Scott exercise at the end of video. Its very useful when we learn from past work and tracking progression in small details.
I always love seeing your teachings being put into practice in your videos! I'd highly recommend joining the study group and getting involved with the community over at Love Life Drawing. A great place to see others improving and inspire you to want to do the same. Thanks, Kenzo!
you've actually hit the nail on the head for me, in regards to shoulder positioning leaving me wondering how it affected the ribcage. thank you for the video, it helped out a lot!
this was the one for me. ive been drawing semi seriously since september this year and been trying to study anatomy and perspective and this and that, and i did manage that. but i wasnt able to progress too far, partially because i didnt practice enough but mostly because the explanations didnt click for me. i get that for each person enlightenment comes differently, some people just need to see one video and theyre set, but im glad i had to watch a bunch of different professionals explain it in their own simple way. it gave me a much better understanding than if i had found this video first and kind of got it straight away. i dont mean to say my understanding is more deep than other beginners because of that, but it is slightly more nuanced i guess. now, its time to practice lol. thank you for the video
This has been the most helpful explanation on how the muscles simultaneously behave & interact in relation to motion. The Harry/Sally method of explaining, how different approaches can lead to different visual expressions of the same gesture, actually made sense to my ADHD brain. Thank you for taking the time to put together this helpful creation.
I love this, I do illustration and some anatomy advice just doesn’t help me all that much, but this is also really helpful for simplified and more abstract figures. I want my figures to make sense without doing too much.
Your videos are the best. I’ve studied figure drawing for a long time now, both in school, and online. Your videos clarify a lot of confusion that inevitably arises from a complex topic. Great resource! Thanks for all that you do.
It really marks you out as a trustworthy source of information that the figures in your examples are varied. Quite a few art youtubers, though obviously really experienced, seem to only draw young women in their videos
I am so glad I am part of the study group. I have learned so much. Best decision ever. I get to learn at my own speed along awesome and supportive people. Thank you!!!
...i love this man so much and ive only seen him once in a 10 minute video, i learned so much, everything was clear, understandable to my peanut sized brain, amazing
This video was the missing piece that I needed. I was like "harry" lol trying to painstakingly memorize every part of the anatomy and every muscle and bone. I really just needed the basic principled to get the overall shape! Thank you for this video! A light bulb went off in my head when i watched it.
Love this video, I am really curious about the video on pelvis! Because ribcage is relateively simple but the pelvis is like extremely complicated, so I'd love to see your breakdown on it too!
Welp, totally called out by the "drawings are either overworked or totally undefined" thing. My friend manages to see the forms within seconds while I currently produce stick figures with 1 minute drawings, but I guess that's to be expected since i'm totally new to this. They tried to reassure me that this is about gesture but I could tell that I'm not exactly on the right path yet. This video is actually just what I needed, thank you
Top tier video! I couldn’t make the boxes a lot of people use/recommend to use to simplify shapes work for me, this seems like it will be a much better way of doing things. Your explanations and examples are also on point, can’t wait to learn more from you! Instant sub. Also, super offtopic but you are an exceptionally attractive human!
Your videos keep me motivated to continue learning and having fun while drawing 🤩 Literally it’s so motivational to hear you break things down with real-time examples on the side. thanks Kenzo!
This is honestly such a great explanation! I always kinda separated gesture and anatomy too - much like Harry did. And I was looking for a fun way to teach and explain anatomy to younger artists. When I watched your video, something clicked - like a connection I never made! Thank you so much for shifting my Point of view! I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos!
yeah took me a while to figure out that shoulders aren't rigid lines that they can move front to back and up and down independently. something i do struggle with is the proportions of the lower half of the body, i'm currently just going by what i think looks reasonable which is about a little less than a torso length for the femur and shins a little shorter than the femur or basically a femurs length all the way down to the bottom of the foot.
I'm a little late to the party, but this video has been incredible so far, and I'm only halfway through! I always struggle with proportions and getting the torso shape right and I think this will help me a lot. btw in my mind, a lot of people may think of the ribcage as flexible because of how much it can expand and condense when breathing and such and this is an incomplete thought but I hope it helps you explain things in the future : ) Also! First time seeing this channel and I'm subbed, great info!
This video was rly helpful for understanding more about these shapes and how to recreate them, definitely gonna be watching it again and sketching along later!
Kenzo my maaan! Always Good 2 see a new post. You definitely know we're not just commenting to butter you up, but Seriously maan. It seems like every time you send us an email or post a video it's like JUST what we needed to hear in our study at the moment. Hi, very good video. I'm like harry, or I was and in that time I did learn that... the rib cage bend to sides and back and forward, it's a bit, compared with the rest of human articulation, but bend indeed, so, feel free to bend the rib cage like 3° to the sides =D

It was a big epiphany moment for me too. Feels quite obvious when you shrug your shoulder to your ear and your ribcage hasn’t moved!
This was so helpful. I usually struggle when it came to anatomy because i thought i need some type of special formula, but this right here really helped thank you.

Love that Harry has you to help him out ;) Great tutorial!
I’ve been so stuck on how I could start to study anatomy and always had problems with gesture drawings as well, thank you so much this was so helpful!

Your gesture sketch was so good right off the bat...I'm so impressed!
The sternum and shoulder thing just blew my mind. Thank you for this.

This is THE single best video on human anatomy ever! Thank you!
this deserves more views wow. i watched a couple of anatomy tips but none of them makes sense to me more than this. thank you truly!!
Your videos are the best. I’ve studied figure drawing for a long time now, both in school, and online. Your videos clarify a lot of confusion that inevitably arises from a complex topic. Great resource! Thanks for all that you do.

Thank you so much for this explanation and tips on how to look at the human form. It has improved my understanding of what I'm drawing!
I am so glad I am part of the study group. I have learned so much. Best decision ever. I get to learn at my own speed along awesome and supportive people. Thank you!!!
Ah thanks Cristina that means a lot!
...i love this man so much and ive only seen him once in a 10 minute video, i learned so much, everything was clear, understandable to my peanut sized brain, amazing
This is a gamechanger for me... Especially the part about the chest and independent arms, an eye opener for sure. Thank you so much
superb videos, Kenzo! such a great resource for figure drawing.
Thanks!
This is one of the best channels for drawing.
Brilliant video in understanding the ribcage and drawing simply but accurately before moving onto the complexities.

This is the exact problem I’m having, but didn’t know how to explain it or what to do about it. I appreciate you so much!
Thanks for simplifying! Looking forward to your follow-up video about the pelvis!
Your videos keep me motivated to continue learning and having fun while drawing 🤩 Literally it’s so motivational to hear you break things down with real-time examples on the side. thanks Kenzo!
You're a really good teacher. Helping me learn so much with your clear explanations and great visuals! 😀
This is honestly such a great explanation! I always kinda separated gesture and anatomy too - much like Harry did.

I would love to see more video with only gesture drawing exercise, I learn a lot from the progress and the control of the pencil work is amazing
Learning so much. I❤it. Thank you 😊
Wow, this was genuinely so informative. The way you explained this has really helped me make a big leap forward in how I think about bodies.
Omg. that a great video. i was looking for one like this
saludos desde Colombia
thank you this is really really useful. it clarifies so many little mysteries of the rib cage
Very well explained. Thank you very much :)
WOW! I get it! Finally something that I can work with! Thank you so much! I really appreciate you
Fantastic video, Kenzo! You present easy to understand ideas that really help me as I continue on my figure drawing journey. Thank you!
Hey Barbara - hope you’ve been doing well :) it’s great to hear your drawing continues!

Great, many thanks for this ingenious suggestion !
I’d love a whole video about how the shoulders and pecs move, squash and stretch
your vids one of top ten best teacher from the force guy
You're brilliant man, God gave you the gift of teaching!
Thank you Hermes!
Beautiful student progress!
Very well explained! Thank you very much!

Without noticing, I use that technic until I saw your video which then made me happy that I was on the right path since the start ^^
Thankyou! The video clarified a couple of big issues I’d been having trouble with.
This is so helpful, thank you!
I'm usually skeptical about art videos, but this is the real deal!
Really good video, the way you explained it made something click for me
This video was rly helpful for understanding more about these shapes and how to recreate them, definitely gonna be watching it again and sketching along later!
Thank you, I've struggled with anatomy for years but I feel like this really helped 🙌🖤
Thankyou so much, this has put new prespective to my view on torso
great video. my personal goal is to try to use fewer lines to say more.
This was very helpful! Thank you
You know there's so much between the very basic and the next level that people just expect you to figure out. They forget what it's like not to know.
Your channel is so helpful keep uploading videos. we thank you so much sir😁
Wow, that was so helpful and clearly explained! Thank you so much! 💖
i was very sceptical about this, but i tried it and wth, it's like magic
A lot of my drawings are stiff. This helped me a lot!
Hands down best tutorial
I haven't watched your channel for awhile you have done very well with it haven't you, well done.
many thanks Kenzo. hoping to get back on track to my drawing soon
awesome! you don't need to think you're either on track or off track, you can just put pencil to paper when you can even for a minute :)
This video is so valuable, it helps me alot with the problems i been having
You are such a nice teacher, 🙏🌺😇
Thank you, Sir, 🙏😇🌺
The best video. I learn a lot thanks to you, thank you 😁
This is exactly the level of instruction i was looking for where I'm at
Excellent!! Thank you

Hey thanks Alex that means a lot. The only problem w using Harry and Sally is Sally was way too pedantic to focus on the basics…
@@lovelifedrawingAhaaa 🤣
Need to pass a sanity check every time we start to do anatomy studies LOL, great video!
Very nice tips thank you... tho the live drawings doesn't seem to really illustrate what you talk about.
as usual, always so useful! thank you
Thank you Jose Aldo
So helpful, thank you!
ooohhh This was so so great!! Thanks for this great perspective!
really helpfull, thank you
Thank you!! Helped me out :)

OH MY GOT THIS HELPED ME!
I have a multitude of lightbulbs going on right now. Thanks so much for this video :)
Where do you get your reference pics from? They have such dynamic poses and lighting!
Thank you
Dear God thank you for this man !
