What I really love about these four is how interesting they managed to make their backstory. Drusilla, Darla, Angel, Spike, they all have amazing flashbacks and amazing moments in the time of the show as well, so much so that even 10+ years after having last watched the show, I remember all 4 names and so many good moments. It would have been truly a waste to kill off Spike and Drusilla early on the show.
@@Megan-rr6qg Technically each of them is a meat puppet being controlled by a demon, as Angellus and Angel are not the same person. That means that Dru, while certainly a bit crazy due to the demon retaining her memories and alot of her personality, is not at all held accountable for the actions of the demon inhabiting her body. But then, neither is Liam, William, or Darla.
@@Gumblethebear We also never see William again. Sure we get Darla and Liam's OG souls (probably, but would the Romany really care if an innocent soul was punishing the vampire?). Spike is the demon and when a soul is acquired, it's the demon who gets the soul. A human soul doesn't show up and take over Spike in S7. The demon won a soul.
@@kyleellis1825 That is one way to look at it. Demon's don't have souls, so I'm not sure where you'd get one to give to a demon, but I suppose that is possible. I think more likely, the writers just said F IT, we don't want to have to do the work that would be required to make a "re-souled Spike/William hybrid". Whether due to laziness or just the actor's character being well liked so why rock the boat, who knows. They do so many things that break Buffy cannon in that season that it was really just "whatever we want, go as big as you can because its all over after this"
@@Gumblethebear It's a reward and the demon was the one who did the challenges to earn the reward. Angel was cursed with a soul and Darla was resurected. Spike the demon wanted to be worthy of Buffy, not let some other entity get her. But yeah, they writers have gone on record as saying they ignore previous canon if they had a good idea for an episode/plot.

It's my umpteenth time rewatching this (bc this might just be my fav edit ever) and noticing you included Angel (as in not Angelus) scenes has me thinking of his character and how cruelty was an Angelus trait that sometimes bled into Angel 🤔 They explored it a little in the show, but I'm wondering how they could've developed that even more... Not really a relevant comment, lol, just food for thought

Funny how out of the 4 of them only 2 had the balls to face the slayers. 1 killed 1 slayer and the other killed 2 slayers just for fun. The other 2 preferred survival and ran from just a human hunter.
