      It takes about 10 - 15 min. Most of that is waiting for the transferring of files to the SD card or Onion OS install process. Might take longer if you have a lot of roms to move over.

      Probably too short for a video and want to avoid showing people how to download roms. However If you Google it you should be able to find the archive. org link for it.
      From there you just want to click the link on the right called zip.
      Then depending on how large your SD card is pick the option you want to download and then drag all the files onto your SD card after you have finished the onion installation. Hope that helps. If not, feel free to ask any questions.

    UPDATED VIDEO HERE: ruclips.net/video/ztGRrzajZ9o/видео.html
    🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺🔺
    *WARNING* Back up Roms folder and bios(/Retroarch/.retroarch/system) from stock SD card if you are going to use it for this install. If you don't do this you will lose the Roms that came with the device.
    If you lost or need a copy of the Stock SD card search "Miyoo Mini Plus Stock SD card" on Internet Archive to find backups people have uploaded.
    Update: Onion OS 4.2.3 recently came out and I would suggest using that one as of now. In the future download the latest version or if you already have it installed you can use the OTA update app on the device to update it. If you need help with the OTA update I have a video walking through the process.

      Yeah, you will need to put the SD card into an SD card reader. If you are going to install onion OS on the stock SD card you can pull the roms and bios from the card to your computer before formatting it.
      If you are going to install Onion OS on another SD card (not the stock SD card) you can pull the roms and bios from the stock card then take it out of the reader and put the other SD card in format it and add the roms to that one after installing onion OS.
      I hope this answers your question. If not please let me know.

  • @jaymcgheeb8476

    Excellent step by step guide. One question, after you've done the Onion OS install, how easy is it to go back to Miyoo's OS? Is it just reinstalling the old SD card? I'm assuming it's more involved than that.

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  9 месяцев назад

      If you installed Onion OS on a new SD card, You are right to go back to the Stock OS all you have to do is insert the Stock SD card.
      If you installed Onion OS on the Stock card you will then have to reinstall the Stock OS from a backup.

    Hello friend. This is really awesome! Appreciate the work you did for this video. I get my Miyoo Mini + tomorrow and plan on using this guide. One question for a noob like me: I plan on adding the Done Set of ROMS (you can find them on the Miyoo subreddit), would you be able to make a tutorial for it? If not it's ok, Ive read the directions and they seem straightforward however the instructions say to unzip entire large folders of ROMs and other sruff straight to the root of the memory card. Will the ROMs somehow put themselves into the correct folder? That part confuses me a bit. Thanks!

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  Год назад +1

      Thanks! I have not tried the Done Set yet, but I have heard good things.
      If it is setup anything like the Tiny best Set Go then it would be organized into folders that can be dragged and dropped into the root folder.
      I also have heard good things about the auto setup for the Done Set. github.com/doakyz/done-set-auto-setup
      If you try it out let me know how it goes.
      I do plan on making videos for both of these sets in the future however with your device coming tomorrow that won't great help to you.
      Good luck and let me know if you run into any issue and need help.

    Hello, did you back up the Roms from the original MM+ prior to any step shown here? If yes, do I simply need to copy the original Roms folder onto my PC before making the software upgrade to Onion, or do I need to back up all the orginal folders? Sorry, I feel like every one got it but me :) Starting at 2:35 from your video you're dropping files from your PC to the MM+. What is the PC folder where you get the files from, is that a back up you made earlier? Thanks for vid! Much appreciated

And how can I find all the ROMs for the Pokemon games and other games that I want to get & play? Is there an easy way to just trasnfer all the games/ROMs that come on the initial bad quality SD when purchasing?

    Why the SNEA simulator defaults to 9x 2005? I will never know but about half the games I play with it have sound card issues and it doesn't let you switch unless you're an expert mode and it does not ship with it enabled.

TL;DR Snes9x 2005 plus is the default and certain games have inconsistent issues with the sound. Once i got expert going and could test it a bit my issues resolved. I'm sticking with blaming the old emulator that is only default as it doesn't use many resources in comparison to the others available.
      But of course further testing is needed lol.

      I think for me the default SNES core is Beetle Supafaust. I normally stick with default but when I have issues, I just go to the game list menu and it Y on that game and choose a different core. If you have a lot of games having issue I could see the expert mode being easier.

      Not sure if Onion OS will fix this exact issue.
      From my understanding, this is an issue with either the Stock SD card or the Stock Roms that come with the device.
      You will either want to replace the Stock SD card with a name brand one.Replace the stock Pokemon Roms with your own Roms. Or both for good measure.
      You could still give it a try to see if it works just make sure to back up any roms and bios files on the stock SD if you are going to use that one.

    Hey bro I just bought the miyoo mini plus advertised with something like 27k games.. I've never owned an after market handheld before so I never tweaked around with custom os. I'm planning on just using the out of the box os that comes installed with the mm+. If I decide to switch to onion os, will I lose all access to the roms that came pre installed on the mm+? Or can I salvage them from there to the new ssd with the onion os installed

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  Год назад +2

      What is really cool about how the MM+ is setup is that the OS's are just installed on the SD cards themselves. So, I would recommend getting a new SD card, installing Onion OS on it and keeping the stock card unchanged. That way you can always just swap back to the stock card and go back to the stock experience.
      You can copy over all or just some of the roms from the stock card to the new one with Onion OS and it will not affect the stock card.
      The quality of some of the roms on the stock SD card are somewhat questionable. A lot of people get community packs like Tiny Best Set: Go! that are made specifically for the MM+.
      Or you if you run into any issues with one you might just have to find a replacement as most of them seem ok.

    • @Amirichi
      @Amirichi Год назад

      @@PhyrexTechs alright thanks so much for that. Is the quality of the stock ROMS questionable due to the stock OS perhaps? Or is it solely the result of playing the stock ROMS on Onion OS? @PhyrexTechs  Год назад

      You can try the built in chromebook formatting tool. I have not tested it, I'm so not sure it would work.
      But I think you just open the files app> then right click the SD card> select format device >then see if there is an option for FAT32

      4.2.3 should work fine. You will need to download Rufus separately.

    • @PhyrexTechs

      If it's a software issue it will fix the issue. However it this is a hardware issue it will not. If you have another SD card you can give it a try then always go back to the stock SD card if you need to.

    • @PhyrexTechs

      Yeah, it needs to be formatted with the correct file system. In this case FAT32.

    Do I have to do this a second time for another sd card or will the same onion download work?

    • @PhyrexTechs

      Because onion OS is installed on the SD card. You have to do this for any SD card that you want to use OnionOS on.

    I downloaded and unpacked the Onion-4.2.3 and it's showing different files than in your video. Is the process still the same or am I doing something wrong?

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  11 месяцев назад

      It will be the same process. There should be no difference in the folders between these version.
      It should still be these folders
      .tmp_update/ *Might be hidden
      BIOS/
      Media/
      miyoo/
      miyoo354/
      RetroArch/
      Themes/
      If you see something different make sure you did not download the source code zip by accident.

    I'm alittle lost. Got onion installed with no problem on a new sd. But having a hard time getting the games on the new sd card. ThT emulator file is from where? The old sd card? You have to both sd cards installed to move games over to new sd? Im a noob when it comes to this

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  6 месяцев назад

      You can move files from the stock SD card to your computer then disconnect it and connect your new SD card and move the files onto it. I have the location of the bios and ROMs files for the stock SD card in the description.

      A couple things you can try are:
      1. Reformat card and download an older version of Onion OS like 4.2.2 or 4.2.1 and try again you can update it over wifi if it works github.com/OnionUI/Onion/releases
      2. Try another SD card if you have one to make sure there is not something wrong with that one.
      3. Try another computer to format and unzip Onion OS into the SD card

    im having trouble with rufus it keeps failing. I get the directory name is invalid and error access to the device is denied. its a brand new micro usb just purchased.

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  11 месяцев назад

      If you are using an SD card reader I would try another USB port. If that does not work try to format the SD card with the windows tool to see if you get any errors or if that work.
      Something else that might cause this is Microsoft Defender’s Controlled Folder Access. you can see if you can disable that temporarily and try again.

    What happens if you DONT use a name brand sd card..? also, I have a mac, can I still download rufus?

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  11 месяцев назад +3

      Good news for you my friend, you don't need rufus on a Mac. You can format your SD card with the built-in Disk Utilities:
      Open Application › Utilities › Disk Utilities
      From the sidebar, select the USB drive
      Choose Erase from the toolbar
      Set Format › MS-DOS (FAT)
      Set Scheme (if it exists) › Master Boot Record
      Click Erase and wait for the process to finish
      As for the name brand SD card it's just for reliability. SD cards have a risk of corruption and name branded ones will reduce that chance. You can still try a cheap one and it may work fine for you.

    When you copy your Roms from your old SD card Do you create a new folder onto your onion OS SD card or do you install it into the bios file????

    • @PhyrexTechs
      @PhyrexTechs  8 месяцев назад

      Drag the roms folder you got from the stock SD card into the Onion OS SD card root folder and it should put all the files into the correct system folders.
      The bios files will need to be placed into the Bios folder on the SD card.

      If you used the stock SD card and didn't copy your games off of it, you will need to replace them. I recommend searching for Tiny Best Set Go for a complete collection pack. Or you can find people have made back ups of the stock SD card on Internet archive.
