The misconstruing of his whole thought in the title is hella weird. He said he would encourage it in a very specific situation that he already specified previously. It was to get a point across politically, he doesnt want Russia to start a world war. Nobody wants war,and thats not how he made the statement. Nobody hates americans more than other americans and it makes me sick. We are going to be at fault of our own destruction
Your comment is spot on. It's obvious that it's an imaginary scenario and he answers with hyperbole. The reporting on his comments is just pure mis/dis information.
I don't think the issue is that simple. A reasonable president who wanted other NATO nations to pay their fair share for defense would say, "If you don't pay, we can't guarantee that we'll be able to help you when Russia targets your country." That would have been sensible. That would have made the point for most leaders pretty easily.
The problem is that Trump said he'd *encourage* Russia to attack NATO nations who lapse on defense spending. Given the very long, very combative history between the US and Russia, for a president to say he'd encourage Russia to attack nations we are ostensibly in alliances with is the problem. Trump could have easily made this point in a more measured, controlled response - instead, his words didn't just chastise those member nations, but he threatened them too.
Maybe he WAS just trying to make a political point, but it's a very clumsy and very dangerous sentiment he's expressing. Russia is an enemy nation actively working to undercut and weaken not just the United States, but any partnership that the US is a part of. Putin wants to cripple America in more ways than one. I think the problem is that Trump was offering solace and support to Russia at the same time he was trying to offer stern condemnation to American allies.
@@blackpajamas6600 "A reasonable president who wanted other NATO nations to pay their fair share for defense would say ..."
But that's exactly what he said. What is mentioned here is hypothetical question asked after the meeting and it's clear he answers in hyperbole. The issue identified by the original poster isn't how he said something; It's the fact that this disinformation is peddled by organisations that are meant to inform us.
@@Rn-pp9et Why does he need to offer hyperbole on matters of such immense foreign and domestic importance? To the news media, no less? Why can't he just say what he means? The excuse he's given in the past for these types of answers is usually some variation of, "I was just kidding when I said that. I was being sarcastic. I was poking fun at the liberal news media."
Hyperbole is an exaggeration of the truth, and while it's not the type of thing that destroys lives, it feels...unnecessary. The guy was already president once. His base is loyal. So again, I wonder, why does he have to gain from exaggeration on this particular issue? If the media won't give him a fair shake, as he says, how does hyperbole not just make things worse? I'm genuinely asking. Maybe you see something I don't.
I am, however, reminded of what happened after Trump's pow wow with Putin in Helsinki. That was when he stood next to Putin and told the assembled news media that Russia denied involvement in the meddling of American affairs. He said President Putin denied interference in American affairs: "I'll tell you this - I don't see any reason why it would be?" And then the next day he told the news media that no, actually, what he meant to say was that he didn't see any reason why it *wouldn't* be Russia, and that he deliberately used the wrong word because he believed it would rile up the liberals (I believe he also said it was a typo too?). Sorry, long-winded way to simply say I don't think any head of state (even a potential one) benefits from muddying the information pool, so to speak. Well, maybe some do, but that's usually in service to their own political ends. Appreciate your insights either way.
@@blackpajamas6600 “Why does he need to offer hyperbole on matters of such immense foreign and domestic importance?”

Hyperbole is not just an exaggeration of the truth, it’s an exaggeration of anything to emphasise a point.
“So again, I wonder, why does he have to gain from exaggeration on this particular issue?”
To encourage NATO allies to modernise and expand their military capabilities and not just rely on US military posture. The very agenda of the NATO meeting?
“If the media won't give him a fair shake, as he says, how does hyperbole not just make things worse?”
The media has been lying about him since he announced his candidacy in 2016. Do you still think anyone believes that Trump is a KGB agent with a hot line to Vladimir Putin as was reported? The American and other Western news media is a joke. Trump realises they’re no longer needed as nobody trusts them. YT reporting and news channels have more viewers than any main stream news broadcast and there’s a reason for that.

"There's an ocean between us".... Geography clearly isn't Trump's strongest subject.
Maybe he hasn't figured out that Russia is 55miles away from Alaska 🤔
He also doesnt recognize that there are submarines with nukes and that US needs Europe's support when it comes to sanctions on China and when the war between US and China blows, US will very likely be asking Europe allies for help.
With such approach US won't have many allies that will be ready to go with them anywhere and alone they won't be that powerful.

YA GOTTA PAY YA BILLS😂😂😂😂
Traitors gonna betray...it's what they do.

HELL YEAH TRUMP BABY
Poor Trump forgot about USA‘s western border. The ocean is veeeery small there. Who’s the neighbour again…?! Please show a world map to him!
whelp, time to withdraw from the nuclear proliferation treaties then
So the theme I’m getting in the comments is that because Trump has an issue with paying personal bills and six of his 250 businesses went bankrupt our whole country should be taken advantage of by Europe.. is that what you’re all saying?
For now the only party who have actually used the article 5 of nato are the US so saying that the nato is just a cheap way of countries other than the us to protect itself doesn't make sense and also trump almost halved his assets from 2016 to the present. Trump often sells himself as the honest competent self made man, but in general he inherited hundreds of millions, profited of public fonds and has had some pretty large business failures.
Let Putin try! He can’t even win against Ukraine 😂

That's not. Encouraging russia to attack nato
He said he would encourage them (Russia) to do whatever the hell they wanted, Trump is a complete idiot !
The title says Trump would let Russia attack NATO. The video is of Trump literally (and I'm using the word literally correctly) saying he would encourage Russia to attack NATO countries. Regardless of whether those countries are in NATO or have "paid their bills", it's still insane that this utter clown would not just let but "encourage" them to be attacked by Russia. Letting civilians be murdered because of some financial dispute is wildly ironic coming from a man who is famous for not paying his bills.
That's not. How full stops work
The Ukraine figures are just lies. It's not 200 vs 25, it's about 75 vs 75 and now EU has commited to another 70. His point with NATO in general is true, members were dragging their feet because they could and he did get them to step up.
Mr Putin rattling his military muscles in Ukraine helped more!
That's true. Although the fact he was pressuring Germany/France to up military spending to a basic 2% before the invasion and then real world events have forced their hand...only shows he was ahead of the game in this particular instance.
@@-gn7snI mean France has steadily always done around 2% for basically forever.
Which is why France unlike Germany has: nuclear weapons, nuclear sub, nuclear aircraft carriers, their own satellite systems.
So saying trump nagged France is hilarious because they have one of the most effective defense industries in Europe.
But hey it's ok maybe Europe goes its own way USA can fight alone.
No he didn't most of countries were spending below 2% and are still spending less than 2%, only countries that spend more than 2% are those which are directly threatened by Russia, which is CE Europe.
The US has sent about 200 billion
NATO has several other requirements.. One is the fair treatment of minorities within the country (for example access to healthcare) .. Another being a functioning stable democracy (with no arm twisting to "find" votes, no riots, smooth transition after elections, etc) .. Can Trump prove he is actually committed to fulfilling these basic requirements? Lets remember that the agreement has so far been called on only once, by America in its hour of need after 9/11.
It's always weird getting an insight into a delusional narcissist. Good job that he holds no sway.........
Does this also include Slovenia where your wife is from or will that country be an exclusion?!
Trump, you not welcome in world ! What next, jail !

Wouldn't trust Trump to honour article 5, you're on your own boys!😂
He'll have bigger fish to fry china, that's why he doesn't want confrontation with Russia it would split his forces.
The real question is why should any American trust any European nation, who has been underfunding defence spending year after year to be able to honour article 5. Most European countries barely have enough capability to mount even a basic defence of ourselves. How the hell could we live upto our treaty obligations to America, and as they can see that why should they trust us at all? They've known for years we couldn't honour article 5 if they were attacked even if we wanted to.
@@davetdowell because Europeans fight USA wars. Europe helped USA in Iraq and Afganistan. When USA will have war with China they will be on their own
Even worse after betrayal. Europe can become enemy of USA. USA would loose world trade and just revert to pre WW2 USA. Instead be global super power they will turn into backwater country with inlfation like deuing Big Depresion of 1932.
Stupidity of americans who dont get where money in USA come from: from global trade which based on USA dominance and influance. Without that influance USA money simply would gone.
But maybe it for best. USA clearly showed they cant be world leader time to step down from that position.
Russia's Eastern European neighbours pay they bill and countries like Poland were always there for USA. They know Russia better thna most ofyou ever will and they know what is at stake. @@davetdowell Nato triggered Article 5 to go into Afghanistan in support of the US after 9/11... On the note of European self defence, the solution isn't hope the Americans elect a President the EU can trust, the solution is to re-ignite the local arms industry, so Russian don't dare to fire a shot!
This is getting ridiculous, they must really think we are this stupid

what debt are you specifically alluding to here?
He's right, there should be an article in the NATO treaty that if a member is not paying 2% then their membership will be considered paused for the totality of that year. EVERYONE collectively should be paying their fair share.
Poor boy!
1:20 for anyone struggling to hear him say that.
It's like when Trump said "fight like hell" and you thought he was ordering an attack on January 6th. You've done the same here.
