Yep. Kratos really evolved. 🤗🤗 Before, he was all careless and vengefully angry alot (accidentally killing his family in the process). Now he's trying to do better with his son and hiding his past to protect Atreus. In your current game and Valhalla, you'll see old game references here and there so now you won't be confused and maybe hyped. And, if you want, on your first God of War video, I wrote a comment to summarize the 3 main god of war games if you want to 'read' my recap (or I could paste it to you). Only if you want. 😊 No need. Anyways, happy days. :)
It’s not to hard to follow alone honestly. Especially if u got that adhd spice to yuh. For me it’s the exact speed I need to retain my focus on the subject.
There IS a gap between GoW3 and GoW(2018). The gap is 900 years. And basically what happens is that Kratos spends most of it trying to rid himself of the Blades of Chaos. But no matter what he does, they always reappear with him. Until he eventually gives up, makes his way to Midgard. And there he meets Faye, who finally helps him heal and move on.
I'm also pretty sure he spends more than a hundred years with Faye, which makes sense because he mourns her so much after her passing. I could be wrong, but she is a giant after all.
the gap is 140 years at best since there is confirmation that a dude that was in the Aegean boat from GoW 1 went to Midgard after the Hydra died and arrived in the Lake of Nine, and the Lake of Nine was already flooded, meaning Jormungandr was already there, and it's been confirmed that Jormungandr arrived in the Lake 150 years ago(Jormungandr flooded the Lake and made Tyr's temple become inactive, and Freya said the temple was inactive for 150 years), the 900-1000 years thing is fan theory based on real world events, the game itself points to 140 years
@@SouMorse The game points to a hundred years, but the comics for in between point to much longer. Kratos actually even spends time in Egypt, having to do a quest for Thoth. Where he leaves a village, but ends up constantly returning to it no matter how long he's long, until he finally gives up and helps the village.
@ according to the lore book, Kratos arrived in Midgard 115 years ago, GoW 3 happening 140 years ago and him going to Egypt aren't mutually exclusive, that just means he spent 25 years walking the Earth until he decided to live in Midgard, that's enough time to do everything the comics show, go Egypt etc.
Basically Kratos is a soldier with severe trauma forced to live by a curse and after years of introspection has started another family but has a son he doesn’t want to pass his mistakes on to. You really need to retain all the knowledge of his past to fully understand where he is right now in regards to character and the way he thinks and acts towards Atreus and the world around him.
as someone who played the original trillogy, i always fing it interessting to watch people who have not played them, play the newones and slowly get introduced to that story.
theres a fan theory for the reason kratos cant die because since he killed Thanatos (the god of death) that now he has become death and it makes him immortal so it’s possible not only he was a god of war in Greece by title but he’s actually the god of death by his abilities to kill immortal beings and power he wields
i think i heard something along the lines of the Gods cursed Kratos in a way that he can't commit suicide. only die by another's hand. him breaking out of the underworld in each game was just sheer force of willpower and storytelling. but in the final act of GoW3 where he stabbed himself with the Blade of Olympus, he truly wanted to die for good. only for the curse to pop up and revive him shortly after
That's contradictory at best, Tartarus is where death truly resides, Thanatos is more or less the god of death by natural causes (So Kratos returning from his violent deaths isn't consistent) but even if you took creative liberties with your interpretation of Thanatos it still doesn't make any sense, so Kratos kills the personification of death and now can't die but why wouldn't the same apply to Thanatos himself?
@@dontreadmyprofilepicture8817 not sure thats what i thought too you can look at it as he maybe was always the god of death since he was the one actually handing death out to these immortal beings or probably the cannon versions is he is cursed from when he killed his family that he cant die conventionally or since he had the power of hope thats what kept him alive
Just thought I should add two details he skipped over: 1- The Blades were searing into his flesh (painfully). 4:33 2- When he leaves his Daughter in Elysium (Greek Heaven) he can never go back, he receives a permanent ban. Leaving his daughter forever. 9:37
22:40 Yes, the next game was God of War (2018), but it's not exactly clear how Kratos moved from Greece to the Norse world. However, we get an idea of how he might have made the journey in the God of War: Fallen God comic. You should have played 1,2,3 but now it's okay 👍🏻 Kratos is much calmer in norse era as you see how baddas and brutal he was in greece
God of war 2018 is taking place 1000 years later but in Norse mythology. There are comics i think which have the story of Kratos right after the end of the last game and 2018. In 2018 you can see the big scar in Kratos body from the stabing in the end of the last game
@@biggianthead5902 correction, he can be killed, he cannot kill himself, that was one of the curses put on him, thats why he lived after impaling himself

You probably already figured this out but the 2018 game is set in a different mythology. The reason is because after Kratos destroyed all the god in the Greek pantheon besides maybe the primordial gods there was nothing left. The world was destroyed. I watched a video about how Kratos entered the world of Norse mythology. This youtuber explains it where the earth has different pockets. There is a pocket for each religion and its homeland. So, Greece and some lands around it are in one pocket while the Norse is in a pocket around current day Norway. Atlas in the Greek mythology was prisoned my Kratos to hold up the "world" when that only meant the Greek pocket. Another example is the world serpent. He wraps around the "world", but he actually just wraps around the Norse pocket. When a person from Greece enters the Norse pocket, the rules change. For example, if you died in Greece you would end up in the underworld but if you died in the Norse pocket you would end up in Helheim. The gods of each pantheon can cross the pocket but lose their ability to control certain aspects of nature. For example, Zues would not be able to create lighting in the Norse pocket because that is Thor's purpose in that pocket. Zues's strength remains though and that's why Kratos still has strength in the Norse pocket. The only confusion is how the blades of chaos can still use its fire when it is from a different pantheon but there is an answer. The fire in the blades of chaos is a primordial fire. The primordial natures exist in all "worlds." So, Kratos could use these blades in any pocket or world. There are a lot of different opinions on this though, but I thought this one is probably the best explanation. Shoutout to the youtuber who created this theory The Midgard Chronicler. I am pretty sure the producers have their own explanation, but it is fiction, so it all comes down to opinion.
Athena was the goddess of strategic battle, not the goddess of war. Ares was the God of Violent Death, Conflict, and Bloody War; he was the frontline warrior driven by rage and bloodlust to slaughter. Athena did the chess thing, Ares did the boxing thing. It was also a way for Zeus to put a cap on Ares, ensuring he couldn't go against Athena in a fight without having to explain to their dad why he beat up his sister. Somehow, I don't think "she said mean words at me" or "She hit me first" will fly with Zeus. As a brother myself, there is nothing you can do to justify even hitting your sister with a foam baseball bat. You may win, but it won't be worth it by a long shot and you'll wish you lost. This is also why Ares retreats when she steps onto the battlefield, he COULD win but after winning, his Dad will stomp his ass into the Underworld, wait until he crawls out, then stomps him again. Rinse, repeat, etc. until the idiot learns. And Hera won't do crap to defend him. She hates all her kids (they are to her what Joseph was to Viggo in John Wick), except Hebe; the only child of her's she loved. And Zeus married her to Hercules in a "checkmate" move.
He can die depend on which hell his on seem like the one kratos is on has an escape route to hell while on a different hell where Thor and Odin are from u can't escape it
Yea, he talks very fast, but you really dont need to know every little detail. If you do find it very fascinating and end up wanting to know everything, there are certainty more videos that go into more depth and talk slower about all of it. But, as long as you get the overall picture of his story, then that's all you really need to know. A lot more detail will come out throughout the story in the two newest games. But you've already done more than most other people who are newer to this series and started playing at the 2018 game. Most people don't watch any video of his backstory or the other games, so you'll already understand a significant amount more when you play the newer games and likely pick up on some of the subtle hints and call backs to the previous games and his back story as a whole.
After gow 3 kratos go to Egypt first and then go to the norse lands to meet his second wife Also he didn't cover the story of a mobile game called god of war: betrayal
You should definitely watch the full story on RUclips, this video is a good summary but he’s goes over everything so fast, there’s reasons and a lot more story behind him killing all the gods, it’s definitely worth watching at least, probably just a few hours long
Don't believe people telling you that the gap between God of War 3 and God of War 2018 is like 900 or 1000 years. There is no evidence of that, it's fan-theory without any proof inside the games, it's all based on real world events and dates, which we have no proof that the writters used as inspiration. The time gap between God of War 3 and God of War 2018 is 140 years at best since there is in-game confirmation(God of War 2018) that a dude that was in the Aegean Boat from God of War 1 went to Midgard after Kratos killed the Hydra, and this dude arrived in the Lake of Nine in Midgard. The thing is that the place his ship sank wasn't underwater before Jormungandr appeared at the lake and flooded everything, meaning Jormungandr was already there, and it's been confirmed that Jormungandr arrived in the Lake 150 years ago(Jormungandr flooded the Lake and made Tyr's temple become inactive, and Freya said in God of War 2018 that the temple was inactive for 150 years), the 900-1000 years thing is fan theory based on real world events, the game itself points to 140 years.
The full story including Ascension and the PSP games Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta are not necessary to understand Kratos. They're more filler than anything. They also break the canon of the original game where he thought killing a god is impossible, because it had never been done before, but in those prequels he kills multiple gods, so it should not have come as a surprise.
Your doing your your self a disservice buy not play the original trilogy. I think they are better than the new series in there own way. Don't sleep on them.
All of these games 35 hours or so. This is the quality story and storytelling in old games. Unfortunately, new games are not as strong as the previous ones. No sacrifice, no hard choices, no epic moments or godly fights. It's like exiled "the last of us" wannabe. Btw, no sexy mini games :)
she is actually also the goddess of war. she and ares embody the two sides of war. she deals with the side of strategy and tactics while ares deals with strength and brutality.

@@mirkodorosariosilva2939 Rather than saying "Goddess of war" is wrong, I would rather say that it is incorrect, there is definitely a martial aspect attached to her but it is more about Defense, being strong in body and mind, to be able to fight to protect your land, not to mention all her other aspects.
He can die depend on which hell his on seem like the one kratos is on has an escape route to hell while on a different hell where Thor and Odin are from u can't escape it
God of war series is really awesome and badass
After gow 3 kratos go to Egypt first and then go to the norse lands to meet his second wife
Also he didn't cover the story of a mobile game called god of war: betrayal
Kratos backshots are crazy 😔
Blades of CHAOS IS THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON MAYBE EVEN MORE THAN MOJLNOR THORS HAMMOR AND THE BLADES OF OLYMPUS ALIKE
i FEEL LIKE I WATCHED THIS VIDEO BEFORE
I was to young player the original 3 games played it with my dad when I was like 6 or 7 years old
I've played every god of war game. Just play 1,2&3 you'll appreciate the new series more
2:30 Athena is goddess of wisdom
"I'm not gonna play god of war 1.2.&3."
Then why bother watching his past ?
Why aren't the graphics realistic enough to play ?
maybe she just has more to do than playing 6 games and reading ac omic book series, idk, not everyone passes their entire life scratching their ass
just want say a random fact
it cannon that between GoW 3 and GoW (2018), Kratos fought Shovel Knight and lost
You can slow down the speed on the video you're watching here on RUclips to 0.75% if you find it hard to keep up with what they're saying!❤
You should've reacted to " kratos story origin " it's way better than this video and it's way more detailed
thanks for the tip!
The original saga are called "backstory"? That's crazy.
Your doing your your self a disservice buy not play the original trilogy. I think they are better than the new series in there own way. Don't sleep on them.
You should play the first three games
You didnt play old gow games?!😂
Yeah people only want to play popular games for views
Fuck there ere people who have played new GoW, who have no idea Kratos was a mass murdering lunatic with a rage boner. Weird times😮
Athena the goddes of wisdom
hes wrong
ugh why does everyone recommend this video, yes ofc it gives info, but it's presented in a bulleted, emotionless, rushed fashion
Technically god of war 2018 is god of war 4 and god of war ragnarok is god of war 5
2:41 Athena is Aries half sister not Kratos
Athena is GOD OF WISDOM and kratos sister
she is actually also the goddess of war. she and ares embody the two sides of war. she deals with the side of strategy and tactics while ares deals with strength and brutality.
I wish you watched PlayStationGrenade video , he explains the lore with more details👍
There is six games before God of War 2018 so God of War 2018 is God of War seven God of War Ragnarok is God of War eight
Please react to God of war ascension " From Ashes" 2013 Cinematic trailer . it hits deep.
Oh wow, shoulda played the video at a .75x speed. Sheesh the guy talks fast.
But why won’t you play the GOW games? They’re great!
Just time and motivation really, I might play them someday (bc they do look fun!) but I just really wanted to play the GOW 2018
I don’t like this video cause the dude skips through a lot of stuff that’s important and says some things that aren’t true or he just misunderstood.
This is the part where all gamers understood Kratos and felt his anger, it is a scene that they did not put in the video you saw. ruclips.net/video/gDd0FtZZgr8/видео.html
i play All
Athena goddess of war What?
Yeah in this she is the goddess of war, in myth she is the goddess of wisdom who essentially is the better strategist than ares and favoured by zeus aswell
1:06 Yes!! The dude talks way too fast. I had to rewind multiple times.
20 minutes, you can barely review one GOW game, let alone the whole saga. Even the other video that's 3 hours long is missing stuff.
Kratos died so many times 😆
LITERALLY
Good review! Howver...... you, my dear, to do it a fitting justice, would be better off just playing all the games. We'll worth your time and energy. Enjoy the God of War Saga! They are top tr gaming!!!
Edit: yes, child. Play this game with most haste. You will not be disappointed. I'll follow your channel if you are interested. I'm looking forward to it. It bet it will most interesting, and I am looking forward to watching your play style.
Its best to play the first games yourself. This video does not do the story justice. Just being very honest.
I can see that
You're doing yourself a disserve not playing the old God of War games. God of War 3 is a masterpiece.
You should really play the games
There are few other clips better explaining then this one
Athena goddess of wisdom and time....
Geez this guy talks way too fast. I played these games but even I would not have been able to remember most of what he said. 😅
whoever that recommend you this video suck he want you tu have the feeling of hurry, there is way better written videos about it but i guess is a ''patreon'' or something like that
The video usaw suck ngl
definitely a lot of unnecessary details in this, all you really need to know is kratos literally killed everyone then dipped
😭
I honestly dont like this video...for example, starting with the primordials is so off topic imo
How?
@@sinceremason4201 dont question me
@@OscarAntonio-t4zbut it part of the story tho
I don't know why people insist on watching the this guy's summary of the God of War series while this is the real one: /watch?v=jugFCrXe5Y4
The one who put this together used the in-game recaps and put them in chronological order.
Athena is the Godess of Reason and Justice, not war 🥸
she is actually also the goddess of war. she and ares embody the two sides of war. she deals with the side of strategy and tactics while ares deals with strength and brutality.
I think the term "Goddess of war" is far too generic and incomplete
@@WhaleKnight0101 this would be true for almost all the Greek gods... for example Poseidon is remembered as the god of the sea but in fact he is also the god of the earth...
my mistake he is the god of earthquakes and not of the earth in general (if you ask me a god who manages earthquakes He is the god of the earth but the Greeks think differently)
@@mirkodorosariosilva2939 Np I understood you and yes you're right, all the Greek gods are initially more complex
The pausing is so goddamn repetitive. Just pay attention.
