Honestly, I think it’s one of the best pickups out there. Quiet like a humbucker but bright like a single coil. It’s like the middle point between a full blown PAF and a P90. It’s a great pickup.
I'd just like to point out that the store I work at, Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center, we're the ones who got that esp from the exhibition and John bought it from us! I work in the drum department so I wasn't involved in selling it to him but we all knew it was him when we saw the order come through lol!
Do you ever give any consideration to the tone &/or volume settings on John's guitars? I never hear it mentioned but it has a huge amount to do with a player's overall tone.
To my untrained but 80's era obsessed eye, those rack units appear to be an old Rockman rack module, a Tri-Stereo Chorus, and some sort of Eventide unit, possibly a Harmonizer for that 80's detune stuff
Believe it's a Fulltone TERC (part for part recreation of the TSC). I think the Axe FX is there for effects only (not as amp sim), but that's just an educated guess based on JM not being an amp sim guy.
At NAMM every year, ESP lets its luthiers go cra-cra producing a bunch of one-off custom builds. You really need to see it to believe what they can produce.
What guitar did John use JP Saxe’s ‘I don’t miss you’? There’s a video of him doing it. I first thought this is the same ESP as ‘Alessia Cara’s’, but now I realise it clearly isn’t - it’s a different ESP.
i do not get the hype about this guy. he has 3 ballads and wants to play the blues but knows there aint no money in blues. please enlighten me what is SO00000 special about Mayer?
Guitarists appreciate his tone, feel and note choices. He truly is a musical genius. If I didn't play guitar, I wouldn't appreciate him nearly as much.
Good to see John Mayer working!
Filtertrons, mate. The most underrated pickups out there.

You guys are the best. Love visiting Chuck's from time to time, just have to leave the wallet at home lol.
Super cool!

Everything on 10 always
It can be very subjective to the amp and area you’re playing in though
half way and up on tone controls mainly, and volume from 8-10 (think I saw it somewhere anyway)

If the Rockman is there and on, it's probably the amp tone. Tom Scholz vibes for sure.
Yes it‘s two Rockman modules
That Charvel was also the guitar he used in the live version of Never Gonna Be Alone, with Jacob Collier and Lizzie McAlpine. Cool!

that Mike McGill sticker on the Charvel is awesome
Lunar ice all day long ❤
The ESP guitar is very "grateful dead" and I can totally see him playing it live with Dead and Company.
Back of the neck is sick!
Thanks!
Looks like a Rockman rack, a eventide H9000

It's the custom bowling ball of guitars
He’s using the axe effects for reverb most likely.
Is he tracking on an axe fx?
LFG! NOICEEE!!
That especially look freaking awesome 😮😮
Whaaaat no strat or silver sky?? Don’t want a Floyd rose.
I hate Alessia's cara Music.

Blues/jazz/country guitar playing in pop songs…
Most of us lead guitarist agree with you. Most don't get it . He is a good soulful singer and pop writer.
