Union Pacific 4014: Racing To Rochelle 9/6/24

It's time, for another steam chase.
September 2024 marked the first time in five years that UP Steam returned to the upper Midwest as Union Pacific 4014 began it's "Heartland Of America" tour throughout the Midwest as apart of UP's "Four Corners" excursion that they announced sometime last year. Naturally we found ourselves heading west the day they were scheduled to leave for their next stop in Rochelle, Illinois for an event on Sunday. In this video, you'll see the mighty Big Boy thunder through the eastern Iowa and western Illinois countryside as they make their way along the former CNW mainline to Rochelle. In addition, you'll also see some other trains appear while we were waiting for the 4014 to show up and even two trains at Rochelle, one being an autorack train lead by an ex-SP SD70M and the other being BNSF R-CHI476 to wrap things up. If I had a nickel for every class one owned steam locomotive that ran from its homebase to Chicago, Texas and Kansas City in 2024, I would have two nickels.
Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
