Back in the early 70s, civilians in our country were not allowed to own 45s calibers like 357 magnum and upwards. Rather than be contented with 380s and 38 specials , the more knowledgeable shooters opted for the 9mm. What surfaced above the few Walther P38s available were the Belgian made Browning hi power. Its 13 round magazine made this pistol highly sought after. Another popular 9mm was the Colt Commander. Great video Sir !!
I believe the 38 super was popular there because of the caliber restrictions for civilians. Kind of silly considering 38 super is more powerful than the 9 mm.alot of mercs carried 1911's in 38 super for same reason
@@davidjakiela9553 You are correct Sir. The .38 supers used by our private security were acquired before and after WW 2. My Dad fought the Japs back then and he carried a 1911 in 45. But when it came to his personal security, he personally acquired pre WW2 and post WW 2 . 38 supers. There were only two problems with this during the 70s (when caliber restrictions were tight.) The first problem was the availability of spare .38 super mags. The other problem was that Armscor was the only one who continued to sell .38 super ammo.
I am glad to know that mercs also favored the .38 super. I still own a 50s Colt 38 super that my Father had transferred to my name.
assuming from your last name, I'm thinking you're in Spain?
@@MrGible You are very close Sir. Our culture was heavily influenced by the Spaniards, since we were part of Spain for more than four hundred years. My country lies below the equator and we are the only Catholic country in Asia. I am from the Philippines.
@@eduardohermoso150 "we are the only Catholic country in Asia"
You forgot East Timor.
My first police duty pistol was a Browning Hi-Power MkII. I still have it, it shoots great (which says something for durability as much of it's diet was Federal +p+ ammo). Back in the late 1980s or so, there was a magazine made for it using a watchspring which held 15 rounds in lieu of the standard 13. Only problem with those was the floorplates tended to fall off. Glad to see technology has caught up on mags now. I like the shorter barrel idea for CCW. I tote mine every now and then but decades of tight belts and heavy guns took their toll. The BHP is an amazing handgun. Glad to see Gisan working their magic on this design.
I am glad to see the Hi Powers coming back from several makers. That seems to be a good base gun for a project by a Hi Power friendly gunsmith.
I remember reading and article extolling the virtues of the High Power, one that always stuck with me was “… the High Power is a big gun that carries small.” This one should take it to another level.
On another note the magazine disconnect is not a difficult removal task.
Great video
Thanks Randall. I like that saying because it's true. And this new shorter version is icing on the cake, as it were. Roy
Hopefully guns are really new some are barely used u gotta pay attention
I think the face of the disconnect just needs a good polish to smooth out the grit
I recently purchased the MCP35 PI and totally agree that the trigger is ultra "crunchy". However, after installing a standard Browning trigger and removing the magazine safety the pistol has been transformed into an excellent gun. Accurate and pleasant to shoot.
You did just the right thing Wilhelm! Roy
Always wanted a compact version of the High Powet, that looks sweet.
Another great and highly informative video Sir. Thank you.
Hi John! This is a dandy for sure. Hope you're doing swell. Roy
I had a dfm detective model in the 90s i dont believe they were made to shoot slow when i shot slow i had groups like yours when i shot as fast as the muzzle came back on target my groups tightened up
Cylinder and Slide is my go to gunsmith destination. You must wait but oh my is it worth it. And they have a lifetime warranty on all they work on.
I have done quite a bit of sampling the turkish makes, Tisas and Girsan and Girsan especially has impressed the heck out of me. I wish Girsan was an american manufacturer, i have a Girsan mc1911s that i onced over with a match barrel and other internal upgrades then refinished to mirror the look of the springfield armory trp operator, Combat operator lipseys gray edition to be exact and i cannot believe the results, the accuracy of mine is incredible the quality of the materials is there with the best and with minor work involved this thing will cycle anything and i'm talking mixed loads in the mag, the friggen trigger can only be described as top match grade. I ran into one problem and one only, finding sights to fit Girsans slide cuts, i had it cut and put adjustable rear on it and it performs with my most expensive 1911's at the range repeatedly, crazy crazy value i happened upon with it.
Agreed Andre. Amazing value for the money. With a bit of touch-up work they are as good as anything made here. Roy
@@fmgpubs still not a single review of the savage 1911s on all of youtube wow
@@andreawhalen4142 Hard to get one yet, Andrea. Roy
Very nice look gun, I’d like to see a redo after a trigger job…Thanks
I have 3 Hi-Power's & I love each one. 2 in 9mm, one in
.40 S&W. My first one had rifle like Tangent sights out to 1,000 meters. I think it's called the "El Capitan" designed for the Argentine Army & Police. Last time I looked on Gun Broker they were selling anywhere from $2,500 up to $3,000 Grand. Mine is in absolute mint condition. One is an FN HERSTAL with the "SFS" shooting safety system which is quite unique on a Hi-Power. Love them all & do carry them concealed up here in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin quite often. We have open & concealed carry up here in Cheese Land, Go Packers.
The Germans also put those sights on their "Artillery" long barreled Lugers. Roy
Removing the magazine disconnect (easy job) improves the trigger, at least it did in mine.
Great version of the browning.
Looks good Roy! Not a bad price point at all either. Have to add it to the grab it up list lol 🤠
Gene
Girsan is quite possibly the highest quality value in the world. I won't hesitate to look girsan when I'm ready to buy again.
s wanted a cz75 so I'm getting a new carry gun/night stand gun and I am thinking cz75 pcr d. But then I saw this. I know I will love the CZ but if this has a good trigger and is finished well I would consider it.
I think it’s a hell of a bargain for the price. Remove the magazine safety and it helps the trigger. Roy
I'm trying to talk myself out of this pistol. Hi-Power has always been my favorite and I have always wanted a shortened version. I have 2 FEG Hi-Powers. Both I removed the mag disconnect. Big difference. Browning only did it because that's what the French wanted. Then they didn't even choose it. I have a CZ 75 Compact and the CZ 75 Compact PCR D. Really like the PCR. I added night sights and thinner grips. All these pistols are good for my Hobbit hands.
Yes PI =" detective size slide " vs full millitary length . The muzzle flash is definitely bigger than a regular hi power The Hungarian FEG hi power is another nice similar weapon without breaking the bank if you want similar but full size and milsurp a few places import them
Half the crunch comes from the original magazine disconnector. Is there one in this model? If not, I totally agree with what say. The trigger will smooth out after a while. I would have liked to see the site picture. Nice pistol, my 35 has been 100% reliable.
Yes, this model does have a magazine disconnector.
I like this model.....but being shorter than the regular model, wondering if springs, barrels will be available in the future....
Not interested in a pistol that I have to have a crunchy trigger fixed by a gun smith, that adds to the price of the pistol.
I picked up the Springfield SA-35 and the trigger is great right out of the box. Accuracy and reliability has also been outstanding.
The Springfields do have a better trigger out of the box, but also cost more. This one can be fixed by removing the magazine disconnect feature (easy to do) and a trigger job is also simple for a pistolsmith. Roy
You got taken to the cleaners for that version, and also not available in a shorter size....after 500 rounds both pistols will have the same trigger.
I think I want one?!?! Does it have the mag safety? Thank you.
It does have the mag safety, but that’s very easy to remove. Roy
To bad it doesn't come with a beaver tail for that hand pinching pistol. It looked good back in the day, but the loss of blood from that hammer pinching my hand got the pistols traded off fast.
Holsters and gas available?
Who stocks them , I wonder???
Thank you for taking a true weight, I was curious, so their full size one must be darn heavy.
I’d think it was the same as an all steel Hi-Power. They are very well build, espcially for the money. Roy
It's a 15+1 capacity 9mm with an all-steel frame, so it does have some gravity to it. Slim though, at least up top in the slide.
@Eric Smith EAA responded when I suggested they get these brought in w aluminum frame. There is a 2 tone that looks awesome trigger is meh not sure how much better if take mag discounter out?
@DanTheWolfman I've ordered one and I'll let you know how much difference it makes when I pull the disconnect out.
Even with the disconnect in, the trigger isn't bad imo. Obviously it's not as nice as a $2000 1911, but it's still a single action trigger, so it's way crisper than something like a Glock.
@@ericsmith5919 Agreed on the trigger, Eric. I took the mag safety plunger out of mine and you can feel the difference for sure. It’s also shot in well so far. I think later I’ll break it down and clean up the action a bit. I do l ove the shorter slide! Roy
Unfortunately due to ups policy change you now need a FFL holder t send a gun to a shop for work. Does this particular Hi Power version have the stupid mag safety in it?
It does have the safety as I don't think they can import them without it. You're right about the new laws governing shipping guns. Ahem .... Roy
You don’t need to ship it off to pull the mag disconnect safety and throw the parts over your shoulder, though. That has improved the trigger on my browning and my Turkish import.
I guess they are both imports. Should I call the browning my Belgium import?
Does it still have the BHP magazine disconnect?
It does, JP. But it’s easy to remove. Roy
Just got one last week, really like it, but gotta do something about the trigger pull. Worst I've ever seen, even on Hi-Powers.[I have a practical].
It is a bit crunchy. Take out the magazine safety, that helps. Then if you know one, any pistolsmith can clean things up easily. You could also buy a drop-in action kit from Cylinger & Slide, and that makes a huge difference! For the affordable price of the EAA gun, the additional cost of work or parts isn’t bad. Roy
Got the mag safety out, put a 2lb lighter mainspring in, still feels like at least 20lb trigger pull, stoned the sear & hammer engagement a little bit[don't wanna do too much of that] gotta wait 'till I can afford the tools from BH spring solutions before I go into it again. Probably try a 26lb mainspring. Thanks!@@fmgpubs
The sear shelf (in the bottom of the slide) also needs a good polish, along with the lever that pushes against it. A step at a time for sure! Roy@@MiJaHa
Thanks! I'll add that to my to do project list!@@fmgpubs
Is it heavy to carry?
Well, not really. About like an all-steel 1911 for comparision. Roy
Why did you cut the scene when you removed the magazine that's not being truthful
Not sure what you’re upset about, Jose. Not sure why removing a magazine is critical? Roy
While not all in the red zone any one of those hits would make the bad guy change his thought process.
Appreciate your kind words. These guns are natural “shooters” and the shorter slide versions are the best I think! Roy
They are nice alright. I have a SAR B6p and haven't shot better! Open sights, rear blacked out, front orange so its kinda a pumpkin thing.....anyway aim small, shoot small, recoil like nothing, 15 rnd mag W skate tape fashioned on grip. Turks are no fools in the firearm dept.
Agreed Tom. The old skateboard tape trick works great. Roy
499
$499? Did you find one for that price? Excellent if you did. Roy

Cylinder & Slide are no more, Roy....sadly.
They are, John. The word got out incorrectly and people assumed the doors were closing. Bill has a buyer and is keeping the shop going until the take-over. Roy
There is no firing pin safety
Actually there is. It’s the same Devel designed concept incorporated in later Browning Hi Powers. Very seamlessly integrated. Roy
