I think that Endgame Thanos is honestly less of an inconsistent portrayal, and more of a mask-off sort of portrayal. Behind all of his self-sacrificial rhetoric and justifications for his actions, what he really wanted was to be proven right. To show everyone that his way works and that he knew what was best all along. His actions aren't noble, they're an extension of his ego. When he's proven to be wrong, when his actions are shown to negatively impact the universe, he can't accept it and doubles down. If the universe won't recognize that he was right all along, then he'll create a reality where it will be so.
To defend Endgame Thanos, the journey to acquire the infinity stones made him the way he was in IW while the one in Endgame was three years younger and saw not only Earth stopping his first assault but actually killing him in the future. He saw that his idea that the universe shall be grateful was wrong and doubled down on his belief that he can still correct it (but this time starting from scratch).
I think the thing is, also this explanation do work out, WHY would Marvel make the endgame this way in the first place if this ultimately result in a worse version of Thanos
I think Endgame as a whole requires a more nuanced discussion than what this video provided. I definitely want to break that entire movie down, in more detail, in the near future.

I wouldn't have been so bad if we actually got more Iron Man working with Peter. But instead we get Happy- one of the most useless characters, and only serving to be the cringe character who is banging Aunt May.
Marvel Comics were cool because the Villains didn't really get killed off. They kept coming back. If they kill Dr. Doom I will never watch another MCU film. They weren't just villains of week in the comics but actually characters with some depth.
I would agree with you on Ant-Man 3 but they pretty firmly established that Kang was the most dangerous one that is why he was exiled by them. So, Idk on that one...
I have to say that I really thought that Ultron and the Collector were working for Thanos. The post credit scene from AoU and from Thor 2 really gave me the impression that there is a connection. I was shocked when I realized that it lead to nowhere.
how the fuck would Ultron be working with Thanos? He literally just got created; you need to learn how to use basic logic and actually think instead of just reacting emotionally to an illogical end credit scene
The worst was ultron... as an animated series watcher and a comic book reader whose whole childhood was bingewatching each and every animated series, ultron in mcu was a disappointment. Ultron was literally the second most important villian for the avengers and his story ended by hulk throwing him in the ship and vision doing talk no jutsu before killing him off?
I think Hugo Weaving's Agent Smith from the first Matrix movie is often overlooked as one of the greatest villains of all time. His performance is off the charts and he is a highlight even tho underused in the lack luster sequels.
He's exactly the same in the sequels People need to stop trashing them honestly, they're not perfect but they enhanced the story of the characters, especially Zion
@@ninjanibba4259the sequels are absolutely forgettable. You can’t make people like them just because you do. Who cares about Zion that’s not even what we liked about the first Matrix film.
@@ninjanibba4259 fair enough I guess it did but I just can’t get into the sequels. I watched them all again before Resurrections came out and I still forget majority of those films after they are over. I would have a tough time telling you what happened throughout most of those films, while the 1st film I could almost tell scene for scene. I don’t know what kind of magic they pulled off in the first film but they were never able to really recreate it in my opinion. The 4th film surprisingly I like more than 2 & 3 and it’s because it was basically a remake of the 1st film with the video game twist. That one was actually interesting to watch for like the entire first half of the film. It got a little boring after that but man do Neo and Trinity still have crazy chemistry.
"Hulk was given no redemption as the writer's not liking the Hulk..." Yeah. Russos even made "fun" of the Hulk. Sadly it was no rematch. They even showed sketches of Hulk fighting with Thanos in Endgame but nooo...

I think multiverse and time travel work best when they aren't just simple plot devices but can either a) be a useful world building mechanic or b) add some layer to a powers and abilities or in some cases c) add a layer to a character. For example funny valentine's stand D4C, the xeelee verse ring and ben 10's time loop.
multiverse is worse than time travel and should basically never be used, because it is so stupid. Time travel is the same; the only time time travel is ever used good in a story is in movies like Primer. Multiverse and time travel ruins a movie 99% of the time, and it is no different in the MCU; the fact they focused on the multiverse concept absolutely ruined the MCU
I like the ideas you’re putting out, personally I wouldn’t completely overhaul everything. I’d keep most of the major antagonists the same structure wise. I’d introduce the masters of evil for Phase one, have them be reoccurring villains through future phases. Keep Ultron, and Thanos as the main villains of phase 2/3, Focus on the fantastic 4, and Doctor doom for phase 4, and then eventually wrap up with Galacticus in the final phase, whatever number that is, I’m not the biggest expert on the whole Timeline, I just think he’s make a great final villain. All the other villains would still be distributed evenly, and have enough time to shine on their own before dying.
If a villain doesn't have a strong personality, then they need to embody the force of nature type. Be a seemingly unstoppable force that, through sheer force, leaves a psychological impact on the protagonist.
It seem thanos beat hulk based on skill and experience. I do think thanos winning over hulk shpuld be a bigger deal but the shock and set up for hulk losing so completely is a crazy way to start
I didn’t really remember liking it the first time I watched back when it came out , but on recent watch I was in the middle of the movie thinking , this is how a comic book movie is made and the old they don’t make them like this anymore
Tbh Ronan was intended to be the "dark and angry generic big bad" He was so serious, so into destroying everything, not a single joke or punchline from him then Peter just started dancing, and the confused look on his face always gets me
Yes because maybe Annihilus should have been in the villain of Endgame or the 2015 fantastic four movie as I thought other suggestions than just using Dr Doom again better yet make him be the villain of the MCU Fantastic four movie because I know he was originally going to be the main villain of Guardians of the galaxy 3 before changing it to the High Evolutionary which was a better choice because it doesn’t make sense why would Annihilus created Rocket Racoon if his motivations is all about wanting to live forever and that he is paranoid. As for the other suggestions for what villains they could have used in the 2015 fantastic four Is the Moleman,Mad Thinker,Frightful Four or the Red ghost and the super apes
@@srstriker6420 ironically the high evolutionary would have been my pick for the fantastic four villain. Well, he would have been the heavy anyway. If it was up to me the fantastic four would have had three villains. 1. H.E. (The heavy) 2. The puppetmaster (the renfeild) 3. Reed Richards of counter earth(the usurper) Dr. Doom would be relegated to cameos leading a revolt in latvaria with an army of doombots and mindless ones. Which would be elaborated on in a “hail to the king” style oneshot.
@@changvasejarik62 but I think High Evolutionary would have a better choice for Guardians 3 but I think of Man-Beast should have appeared as he is one of his creations
I think it would have been much more interesting if the original thanos/ farm scene was much later in the film rather than the first 5 minutes. It would have made his sacrifice of the stones way more impactful, plus if they hyped up a rematch to then see thanos just living a normal life would have been satisfying and a great way to add a true sense of subversion.
I think it makes sense that Mysterio shows his face to Peter because he wants him to trust him. But, perhaps his "real face" is also a mask. That'd be neat.
A psychological drama about Yellowjacket declining in all areas of life while secretly being manipulated by his resentful robotic son would have been a masterpiece with the rights aesthetics. Instead we get this popcorn crap that isn't even good popcorn.
I find it very funny that Taskmaster has some history with Deadpool and both characters have terrible adaptations (for those lucky ones to not know what I'm talking about, I'm dissing X-Men Origins: Wolverine, not Deadpool movies) that barely resemble the character in question and barely feel like characters.
Is it just me or did the MCU go from "big scary villain" to "person with a lot of money or authority therfore has many minions" as a formula for creating villains?
this is why I think Garou from one punch man (mainly webcomic), is one of the best villians i have seen period, we spend time with him, seeing what makes him tick, the tribulations he has to overcome, and we know he will eventually lose, its in the series name, but in this he makes a perfect foil to saitama, and the conclusion between the two is incredibly satisfying
Absolute travesty we never got a proper post snap mcu, that builds up to endgame. This would have been the perfect time for a Hawkeye and Widow film. Punisher spin off and more. But Marvel hates money sadly

I think the weirdest part of the infinity saga is that it's always boasted as an 18 film saga that leads up to Infinity War and Endgame but that's actually not true. Most of those movies don't have anything to do with Infinity War or Thanos at all. You only have to watch 5 movies to understand Infinity War and Endgame. The Avengers, Captain America the Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America Civil War, and Thor Ragnarök. If you only watch these 5 movies you won't recognize some new faces or know what their powers are, but to be honest, the standalone movies don't really explain those things either.
Only part I disagree with is making it seem like what US Agent did was the correct path, both Falcon and US Agents choices were weird/bad. (Well US Agent was supposed to do something bad)
I agree with you for the most part I feel like you misunderstood T'Challa and Killmonger. They represent MLK and Malcom X at their most extremes. MLK's pacifism to the point of inaction being T'Challa and Malcom X's more active approach to the point of terrorism in Killmonger. Black Silence and Black Rage. Both are wrong. You can't ignore your brothers and sisters who are in need simply because you aren't suffering alongside them. You also can't weaponize your suffering and turn it into the suffering of others.
The most disappointing villain I’m is Gorr, I’m so mad they wasted him when they had the source material right there. I wished the movie could be remade or he comes back like damm
That wasn't a "lesser version" of Kang per say; this is the real deal Kang, but at his lowest since he's been exiled. In Loki season 2, he'll be back and building his power base. He doesn’t die at the of Quantumania, he's just displaced again.
Can't wait to see another black Kenny being killed and hearing the shills saying "noooooo, the real One Is coming, trust me" When the fucking Spot turns out to be a Better villain It means mistakes were made
Would've thought you'd tackle Agatha Harkness, given how much they changed her character from Wanda's mentor and ally to the Avengers and Fantastic Four to full on supervillain.
Honestly at some point, the MCU should just reboot itself like a James Gunn's DCU sort of thing. I have nothing against the MCU, but it continues to run itself into the ground and it really sucks because now it's too late to actually introduce iconic or obscure characters. I think it would be a fresh start where they can plan out ways to introduce certain characters and maybe even be slightly more accurate (like making Hank Pym currently Ant-Man). I know they probably won't do this, but I feel as if there will be a point where these movies won't be reliable money makers anymore.
Fun Fact: Comic Book Black Order Was Able To Defeat/Occupy Characters Like The Hulk, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Thor And (Marvel’s Superman) Hyperion. at The Same Time. (Infinity Comic Book)
I think that Wanda’s case is a little bit more complicated because technically WandaVision was kind of a redemption / new strat arc. ( Before jumping at my throat let me explain ) In my opinion WandaVision was an interesting way to develop her character ( and mostly after Infinity war / Endagame events ). The idea was interesting : Wanda Maximoff riddled with devastation and grief after having to sacrifice the love of her life in vain to try to save the world, and being in the unique position of not getting it back years later like many others on had the chance to do so and doing her best to try to accept it, they made her character going through the 5 stages of grief until the phase of the acceptance. This phase is represented by the fact that when she realize that Westview's inhabitants were suffering, she put an end to it. Yea let me say that again, WHEN WANDA REALIZED THAT SHE WAS HURTING PEOPLE, SHE PUT AN END TO HER SPELL ON WESTVIEW. Wanda gave up her dream, her perfect life, the only time she was able to reach a bit of happiness and everything she wanted because she knew the consequences of forcing it to become reality and she KNEW that it was the right thing to do. She knew that damage had been done and she tried to fix it. How ? She isolated herself in the middle of woods because she understood that she was a danger for those around her and she wanted to learn how to control her magic so something like Westview never happen again. The problem comes from Multiverse of Madness and it’s awful writing. Why ? Because the movie literally acts like WandaVision never happened by just turning her into psychotic mass murderer for no reason which not only invalidate all of her character growth, and also ruins WandaVision in the process by making it pointless, but also but also by literally giving right to a dude like TYLER HAYWARD ( yea the one who leads the Sword and the one who also had no problem exploiting Vision and violating his integrity and his rights by dehumanizing him and literally treating him like a thing and who behind his supposedly desire to save Westview, have overall a bit more questionable motivations inside ). This movie ruined all of the complexity that her character originally had by turning her into a irredeemable evil crazy bitch for nothing. I’m not against Wanda being turned into a villain because there were a lot of times when she was a villain in the comics and she was great but if it’s really what you want, just do it well.
The final battle in End game was poorly lit on purpose. It’s a technique used to either hide bad CGI or to save money on detailed rendering. I’m assuming it was for the latter here
It seems that your only criticism of Guardians villains is their lack of comic accuracy, which is silly, as by your own metrics, they are fantastic villains for their films, wonderfully performed, and perfect foils for the protagonists. Ronan is perhaps a lil weak, but he *is* a perfectionist like the other villains, which is the opposite of the heroes. Ego, the sovereign, and even taserface are all incredibly insecure villains, mirroring the guardians character drama in the film. And Evo is literally a eugenicist who toys with the innocence of life, razing entire worlds on a whim, compelled by his own weakness and vulnerability, he is the PERFECT guardians villain.
His criticisms are less on lack of comic accuracy than on the film versions failing to live up to the comic versions; the problem isn't that they were changed, but that those changes made them worse. Ronan was terribly forgettable and Ego could have been better if the writers hadn't forgotten he was a planet. HE was a decent villain but never especially threatening.
I actually think the mcu having an osbourn can work really well, introduce a Norman osbourn that becomes the new tech giant after stark, peter is paranoid because his last encounter, have peter spy on him because he knows he’s the green goblin, it’s just a matter of time until he exposes himself. Then have a goblin like character show up and after a couple fights it’s revealed that it’s not actually osbourn but rather the hobgoblin (any iteration) who was given tech BY osbourn to kill spiderman (like the cartoon) then you can do sone twist that Norman created the goblin serum and used the other guy as a test subject and then uses it on himself at the end of the movie. Also I don’t know how I feel about ned being hobgoblin, there would have ti be a lot to write around, maybe have his mom die, without ever having his best friend and his mom dead, he has lost his moral compass. He goes to college and scores an internship for a newly developed oscourp industries where ding ding ding he becomes a test subject for the goblin serum for either money or a sense of power after being at such a low point in his life. Now got get osbourn green goblin, and you get ned fulfilling the “don’t worry I won’t a villain and try to kill you” line from no way home. As miles said “make 2 cakes” lol
Great video again and worth the wait. Admittedly for a while I passed off the deceasing quality of marvel films as just me growing older but that’s not what’s happening. The kids will not look back at these films and appreciate them like their parents did with Star Wars etc. It’s just ‘content’ now. Consume and move on.
For the high evolutionary: I can understand since the wanted him to be more expressive and him being a mechanical robot/cyborg wouldnt be as expressive as Chukwudi Iwuji who killed that role and made him memorial: plus he is kinda comic accurate with the face at the end and also we don’t know if he’s dead or not; meaning theirs possibility for him to return in a future Movie with a comic suit
I had a similar idea to your masters of evil idea in regards to what I think DC should do, I think the legion of doom would be the perfect choice as an Endgame style threat
the D+ shows could’ve been a cool way to bring back old villains. have red skull return to earth after five years of wandering the cosmos in TFATW. have Wanda through her chaos magic and infinity stone fuckery accidentally bring back Ultron in WandaVision. literally fucking have 2012 Loki return to the present day MCU by the end of his show lol. Maybe not the Loki one, but stuff like Ultron could’ve been cool in the way he’s brought back by Wanda, but bides his time and eventually goes back to his comic roots in ant-man 3 by being a villain who antagonizes Hank Pym since Tony isn’t around anymore. or villains like Red skull could still want to take over the world but has a higher wisdom from his time protecting the soul stone and still doesn’t like the Earth he’s come back to. Pretty sure one of falcons first fights was with Steve fighting Red Skull.
As soon as anyone has the time stone and can use it properly they should just win by default. When you control the flow of causality how can anything beat you?
Oh no, Thanos vs Hulk isn't the most disappointing fight in mcu. Thanos vs I-ve-got-one-knife Loki. Or they sucked equally. But Loki, as proven by Endgame, can operate Tesseract without any use of technology, so he could just port the whole whip away from Thanos, or even just himself and Thor, as they established that Loki had suddenly started to care for the most petulant, big-headed, selfish, and arrogant Thor we've had ever, in Ragnarok. Bottom line is, illusions, stone, his personal skills of transportation even without the stone - Loki shouldn't be dead that easily even by the rules of MCU, regardless of comics. And he'd gladly compromise to name himself Friggason, not Odinson, within MCU.

Iron Man was the piece that kept the Avengers together.
And the mcu honestly.

And the piece that destroyed Spider Man

He's so dangerous that he kept getting undermined by the heroes despite the buildup of him for 50 mins
Crazy how i find myself agreeing with almost every point you bring out, am glad i found your channel
I have to say that I really thought that Ultron and the Collector were working for Thanos. The post credit scene from AoU and from Thor 2 really gave me the impression that there is a connection. I was shocked when I realized that it lead to nowhere.
I would have thought of Thanos was behind Civil War and Ragnarok like a chessboard
how the fuck would Ultron be working with Thanos? He literally just got created; you need to learn how to use basic logic and actually think instead of just reacting emotionally to an illogical end credit scene
@srstriker6420 That would have made so much sense!
@@Natta44 just like how in EMH Loki was behind the Breaches in prissions
The worst was
ultron... as an animated series watcher and a comic book reader whose whole childhood was bingewatching each and every animated series, ultron in mcu was a disappointment. Ultron was literally the second most important villian for the avengers and his story ended by hulk throwing him in the ship and vision doing talk no jutsu before killing him off?
He is arguably their number one villain and arch nemesis, it's between him and kang for that spot. Zemo, Thanos and Loki are honorable mentions.
I think Hugo Weaving's Agent Smith from the first Matrix movie is often overlooked as one of the greatest villains of all time. His performance is off the charts and he is a highlight even tho underused in the lack luster sequels.
He's exactly the same in the sequels
People need to stop trashing them honestly, they're not perfect but they enhanced the story of the characters, especially Zion
@@ninjanibba4259 You are not the boss of me. I'll trash what I want
@@ninjanibba4259the sequels are absolutely forgettable. You can’t make people like them just because you do. Who cares about Zion that’s not even what we liked about the first Matrix film.
@@kang6914 doesn't matter, it still pushed the plots forward, and they're not forgettable, that would be 4
@@ninjanibba4259 fair enough I guess it did but I just can’t get into the sequels.
This entire breakdown made me want to rewatch Avengers: EMH again and how well it did with storytelling and characters.
"Hulk was given no redemption as the writer's not liking the Hulk..."
Yeah. Russos even made "fun" of the Hulk.
Sadly it was no rematch.
They even showed sketches of Hulk fighting with Thanos in Endgame but nooo...
Right now, the MCU is so badly damaged, that the only solution is for a new owner of the iP's and a complete reboot.

I love the idea of using time travel. It works well when it does
multiverse is worse than time travel and should basically never be used, because it is so stupid.
Awaken your babes

I didn’t really remember liking it the first time I watched back when it came out , but on recent watch I was in the middle of the movie thinking , this is how a comic book movie is made and the old they don’t make them like this anymore

I personally wanted to see the mcu do the Annihilation event.
But then I just like Annihilus as an outside context villain.
As for the other suggestions for what villains they could have used in the 2015 fantastic four
Is the Moleman,Mad Thinker,Frightful Four or the Red ghost and the super apes
@@srstriker6420 ironically the high evolutionary would have been my pick for the fantastic four villain.
Well, he would have been the heavy anyway.
If it was up to me the fantastic four would have had three villains.
1. H.E. (The heavy)
2. The puppetmaster (the renfeild)
3. Reed Richards of counter earth(the usurper)
Dr.
The fact that somehow the actor playing the T1000 didn't seem to breath made the character more terrifying.

You should make your own plan on what you would’ve done if you had been in charge of the MCU
I think it makes sense that Mysterio shows his face to Peter because he wants him to trust him. But, perhaps his "real face" is also a mask. That'd be neat.
At this point I don't want them to touch Silver Surfer, Galactus and Fantastic Four. Just stop.
A psychological drama about Yellowjacket declining in all areas of life while secretly being manipulated by his resentful robotic son would have been a masterpiece with the rights aesthetics. Instead we get this popcorn crap that isn't even good popcorn.
Did anyone who watched both Guardians of the Galaxy volume 1 & 2 noticed that Peter Quill returned to Earth after so many years in Endgame?
Yep, and I’m guessing that was against James Gunn’s wishes.
what do you mean?
I find it very funny that Taskmaster has some history with Deadpool and both characters have terrible adaptations (for those lucky ones to not know what I'm talking about, I'm dissing X-Men Origins: Wolverine, not Deadpool movies) that barely resemble the character in question and barely feel like characters.

Yeah, but his version of Luthor in BvS was bad. I wonder if he would have been actually interesting later on
Am convinced most of these writers aren’t even comic book fans
No, really?
Who would guessed?
this is why I think Garou from one punch man (mainly webcomic), is one of the best villians i have seen period, we spend time with him, seeing what makes him tick, the tribulations he has to overcome, and we know he will eventually lose, its in the series name, but in this he makes a perfect foil to saitama, and the conclusion between the two is incredibly satisfying
Phase 4 took a plane nose dive.

Yeah because why should we feel bad for the flag smashers because they were killing people for what
I want Dr. Doom and Magneto to team up and fight the Avengers
Some people miss the mark and revert to anti-woke rhetoric instead. Doing Stan and co a great injustice.

We need to make our own Marvel fan made content like Star Wars fans on RUclips.
I know they probably won't do this, but I feel as if there will be a point where these movies won't be reliable money makers anymore.
great conclusion to this series, one of the best critique videos i've seen. cheers
A Villain must be a worthy rival or a formidable obstacle, but Marvel villains are a checkbox to be ticked.
Fun Fact: Comic Book Black Order Was Able To Defeat/Occupy Characters Like The Hulk, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Thor And (Marvel’s Superman) Hyperion. at The Same Time. (Infinity Comic Book)
How do you know how to read comics and not know how to write
Basically the MCU should’ve been Avengers: EMH to a certain degree
I just looked at your most popular videos and now I understand why you sound the way you are
Overly dark villains are quite often the result of bad (rushed) CGI.
Your so right about modok, they might as well kept the mask 😷 on his face
Nightmare Or Mephisto Could Of been the villain for Dr. Strange in a Horror style movie. No Jokes, Full R-rated movie.
The final battle in End game was poorly lit on purpose. It’s a technique used to either hide bad CGI or to save money on detailed rendering. I’m assuming it was for the latter here
The problem was thanos had a threatening situation but it seemed so child friendly without a threat
It is finally here.
🤡
@@ArcTrooper269he’s right
His criticisms are less on lack of comic accuracy than on the film versions failing to live up to the comic versions; the problem isn't that they were changed, but that those changes made them worse. Ronan was terribly forgettable and Ego could have been better if the writers hadn't forgotten he was a planet. HE was a decent villain but never especially threatening.
It is one of the problems I keep seeing in these movies, they keep killing the villains. Most of the time they are the best villains. (sigh)
I wish Nightmare came to the MCU

He's alive, it's already confirmed

Red skull, Zemo, skrulls, taskmaster, yellow jacket, modock, abomination, crossbones, all wasted
Absolutely
the D+ shows could’ve been a cool way to bring back old villains. have red skull return to earth after five years of wandering the cosmos in TFATW. have Wanda through her chaos magic and infinity stone fuckery accidentally bring back Ultron in WandaVision. literally fucking have 2012 Loki return to the present day MCU by the end of his show lol.
The question is... what happened, Kevin Feige?
In my mind, the MCU ended with the end of infinity war. I like stories where the bad guy wins. endgame and everything after that never happened.
So basically, Marvel, stop killing every one of your villains. Give them a chance to return in a new and/or bigger way in the future.
Probably Peter trying to prevent Norman from being the goblin but by doing so, he created the goblin.
