Thank you for this video. My great granddad was injured here on February 1st 1917 while serving as a Unteroffizier in Infantry Regiment 362 in the German Army. He lost his left leg but made it home to Denmark after the war. Those who served will never be forgotten
Having visited the Butte after years of reading about it, I was amazed at how how small it was. I walked up it in a minute or so. All the while thinking of how tough it must have been for the lads trying to fight their way up it. And failing. What a terrible war it was.
Great video - such a waste of life though, my great uncle Robert Greig was killed there on 12th Oct 1916 he is still there and commemorated at Thiepval memorial.

Many young men died and are still in those fields of the Somme. Nice video!

It is a bit smaller than most folk would expect, 3 or 4 years ago, you couldn't actually see the butte...it was covered in trees.
