So cool you scored that TY250 Yamaha! I used to take those out of the crate & prep for sale! When you take it out in the woods you feel like Malcom Smith the great trials champion! You’re gonna love it when you get it running! GREAT SCORE RED!!!🎉
@@RedRiderCanadaBC I like the small cube bikes and dual sport bikes. I wonder what you need at minimum to take the interstate to the trail? and not go the long way on 2 lane roads? My '73 MT125 Elsinore was stolen about a decade ago from near Asheville NC.

One way to clean that corrosion off is with an ultra sonic cleaner. The brake hub should go in a solution of mostly toilet bowl cleaner, and a little bit of water. If you have a container to use for the solution, then you can stick the parts in that container, then drop it into the ultra sonic cleaner. It’s not the worst corrosion in the world, so it should clean up fairly easy.

Lol well thank you 😁 I definitely have my favourites when it comes to motorcycles, but I don’t dis any brand of bike, even if it’s not my particular taste.
Fantastic start on the restoration! Taking it slow and paying attention to the smallest details will pay off in the end. This bike looks to be a great first ever full restoration job to tackle. Repairing those broken fins will take some welding which will be fun. Great video and start to bringing back the old bike back to life! Keep wrenching and riding, and stay safe up in your beautiful B.C.!
Cool project! It looks like an old trials bike. On the left side of the front hub it looks like it has a provision for a speedometer cable that’s not there anymore. Maybe that’s where the water intrusion came from. And perhaps the head is interchangeable with the DT 250, but I’m not sure. If so, maybe eBay. Anyway, you’ll be doing wheelies on it by summer! Don’t forget to take a bunch of pictures before and during tear down. It makes putting things back together later easier without relying on memory only ;).
Yea it’s got a spot for a speedo, but I’m won’t be needing one lol. I’m hoping to be able to get whatever parts I need for it without any issues so I can be riding it this summer! Oh, and it’s a 1975 trials bike.
Very nice. Definitely like the new little addition. That Yamaha's in some pretty good condition considering it's age. Now you have to get Tiny a retro helmet and a pair of goggles and take a couple of photos on it (I hear the makings of a future Christmas card featuring Tiny "riding" the Yamaha). 🤣🤣🤣
Free is always good !! Look's like it needs a littleTLC...good project bike, I've weld repaired a couple of cylinder fins before...Which I'm sure your dad already knows, and has done before !! You should get yourself an ultrasonic cleaner, they do wonders for cleaning small parts like carburetors, or brake parts, saves a lot of time and they do a great job, and they make them in several sizes, plus they're pretty inexpensive...keep up the great work and videos ✌✌💕😘
Yep, free is my kind of deal lol. I can’t wait to get it all opened up and see what the motors looking like, hopefully it’s saveable and won’t involve too much rebuilding.
That's a nice complete looking machine. I'm looking forward to to see the progress on this bike. I've had my fair share of drum brake fun on all my vintage Enduros . Between rear brakes sticking and had a front brake that the pad came off and would lock as soon as you touched the brake lever I was glad I made it back to the house. I definitely replace the brake shoes if I have any doubts .lol
Angel, the fins can be repaired without a TIG welder. Research Aluma-weld. All you need is MAP gas and torch. Around $60 for the torch with gas in most hardware stores. Lots of videos on how to use the Aluma rods. These really do work, NON STRUCTURAL ONLY of course. Some folks use a common propane torch, but the MAP works better in most cases. Cut pieces of fin from a scrap head or cylinder, CLEAN AND PREP well. Then follow the instructions and you'll be amazed. I would pre-heat the head slightly in a oven or even a hot plate before welding. After it's fully cooled, finish with your die grinder or cartridge roll. T.S. RACING
Alumiweld, and Alumaloy, both on you tube searches. In the states I get them at Harbor Freight. It's NOT - TIG welding, think of it as Aluminum brazing, and yes they work.
Hi Red , only Yammy I ever had was a RD 200 Electric in the early Seventies , 2 strokes are so much fun and it's good to see you working on your new addition to the family. Hi Red nice project bike. It didn't look like the fork tubes were rusted at all. sometimes from sitting outside so long they can rust and pit. My son learned a new trick with the fenders on one of his 4 wheelers. They where all scuffed and dull with age. He took a propane torch over them and it made then shiny and bright again. Not like new but a big difference. your front fender kinda looked faded or maybe just dirty. I thought maybe you could practice on the back fender first. My son said it didn't take that much heat so if you try that don't get carried away. Good luck on your project and if you have a little spare time I have a XS 650 Yamaha that you could maybe restore for me. Although I think you have enough projects to keep you busy for quite a while.
Lol I’ve definitely got my share of projects. I’ll try the heat idea on the back finder and see if I can save the front one at all, but I kind of have a feeling that the plastic might be too far gone. It’s faded but it’s also really dried out and leaves a chalky power on anything I touch it with.
