- This is Episode 216 of Finnegan's Garage and it's time to say goodbye to Game Over. We are taking the boat apart to ready is for a cross-country trip home with its new owner. I'm definitely keeping the 711ci twin-turbo Sonny Leonard Racing Engines Hemi engine but the rest of the boat and trailer are leaving. Don't worry, there are some excellent tips and parts used in this video because, of course, nothing ever comes apart easily, even if it's only been together for a couple of years.

Sonny was my 2nd cousin, glad to see you're keeping that motor for a new project. Means a lot to at least me. The motorsport oriented side of my family loves watching your vids!
thank you.
@@FinnegansGarage is 540 in
You're the kind of person I'd want to buy something from. That's super nice of you to label all the plugs and clean it up for the new owner. Lots of people would have pulled the engine and said ok c-ya!
i want the next owner to be successful with the boat and have fun, not chase his tail trying to figure out how to make the thing function. its the least i could do.
I'm so excited to see that Sonny motor running 6's at Drag week!
It was a fun ride. Thanks for taking us on the journey.
To me this step makes sense. Once you have done a few pulls at full speed on the lake, what more is there other than maintenance. The red boat is far more useful as a family outing runabout. And the big block will be a new chapter in drag racing.
yeah the red boat has gotten a ton of use even though it is only a fraction of the age of Game Over. i can understand why hes taking this step
Yeah
* land speed racing...
He bought a completely different boat a big block is going in his new boat the redboat is staying the same
I knew after the 4 seater, GameOver was on borrowed time. Glad the hemi is staying.
Blasphemi for fun.
Wifey's jet-boat for boat type stuff.
Caddy for half mile stuff and road trips with friends.
Sonny Leonard engine in a monster car to compete with Cleetus in Mullet.
You got this.
That’s exactly what I thought, 6:50s would keep up with Mullet
@@RyanMcIntyre When Finn is done with that project, I suspect Mullet will be in the 6,20's and run a different engine.
Letting something go with an eye on the future is so much better than an involuntary loss.. Glad you have something ahead that has you excited. I'm anxiously waiting to see what it is!
.......letting go with an eye on the future.......I needed that bit of perspective in my life. Thank you.
I can see how excited you are for the new projects that makes selling the boat so much easier. I sold my 55chevy pickup because at the time I had no money for it and I didn’t want to see it rot the elderly gentleman that bought it restored it showed it and daily drove it until he died and passed it to his grandson so I couldn’t be happier
@24:20 let the new owner know they can use the oven cleaner ( Easy-Off oven cleaner) to pull the lettering they don't want to keep on the boat... it will not hurt the boats gelcoat and they only needs to leave it on until the lettering starts to Wrinkle!!!! Just wash it off with water and the lettering paint will disappear, they may need to buff it afterwards because of the shadows the paint on top of the paint leaves from being in the sun !!!
Im a pinstriper and sign painter of 17+ years and have used it a bunch of times to pull other pin stripers crappy work off and put mine on..
6:47 My brother works in the aerospace industry, and he told me that they coat bolt threads with an epoxy primer to help prevent galvanic corrosion. Not sure if that helps with boat turbos or not but I was just talking to him about this problem.
Finnegan is one of the few people that you can actually believe when his For Sale ad says " don't try to low-ball me, I know what I got" . . . And the level of detail cleaning up something already sold is awesome. No two year old French fries and 1/2 melted Skittles under these seats.
Love to see you build a flat-bottom v-drive with that engine👍🏻👍🏻
You are absolutely correct about the torch. I’ve always had one in my toolbox at work. I depend on it at work. So when they get worn I get new and bring the old one home. My entire family definitely knows my love for torches and fire. And my name is Mike. So I got that going for me!
Any heavy mechanic finds themselves looking the galled stainless stud in the eye now and them..Heat with a map torch, and apply antiseize while it's hot! It melts to a liquid immediately, and some of it get pulled into the threads by capilary action. It's a good opening move that often avoids the galling issues.
Honestly I never thought that boat lived up to its potential. I'm glad to see it's donating its heart to something else.
Probably because of where Mike lives now. He is just so far removed from the drag boat racing scene.
I think it is already too fast to be safely used. He likely dodged a bullet by moving on.
Totally agree with you!
Honestly, I am glad to see it go. I think it was a great learning experience but far too dangerous for a "recreational" boat.
Building stuff and running stuff is more important than just having stuff - welcome to the next level of enlightenment! :)
Wow straight up facts there
I work for an oven/furnace manufacturer. Sry for my english in advance. We experience your exact issue with stainless bolt in stainless thread in the hot/cold treatment everyday. Quick tip. The bore for your thread, drill it 1/10 mm bigger than you normally would and apply heat resitant grease. We use something from FUCHs that is leveled at 280°C use. It does not solved the problem completely. But reduces it radically
Looking forward to seeing the Caddy get finished. Imagine a nice easy drag week with the family, that will be the car for it.
He’s not building the caddy for that. He made it pretty clear that he is building it for top speed events.
@@danmyers9372 If it will only do 8.50's, well let's just say my plan is better.
@@danmyers9372 He is gonna drag race it, he even went with a smaller tyre so he could keep the rear seat so his friends could ride in the back for drag week. The big end goal is do 200mph.
It's a really cool jet boat build. Your reasons for parting with it are true. For racing or just playing around on a lake, nothing beats a basic big block drag boat with a tunnel ram and lots of bling.
Sad to see her go Mike, but I'm sure the next project will be equally if not more badass! I also like your mindset about why you're letting her go and how the next owner can now have fun with her. Keep on doing what you do bro, I love watching your videos and can tell you're the kind of guy I'd like to build cars, motors, etc with.
Losing your "right hand man" is tough. Not only is it more work for you, but the absence of them sharing all the trials and tribulations of the project(s) is the hardest part. I'm dealing with a "right hand man" availability... My project(s) will continue on, just find going out to the shop not as fun. Anyway,
Thank's for sharing your projects and adventures.
The only reason a real man sells a project is to make a bigger one. 😂
Love it!
Okay there Tim Taylor
I have to agree
Arr, arr, arr!
Wife always yells at me for buying then selling right away. Gotta keep buying cheap selling high. How we afford to keep building projects gotta make money to spend money
Admirable to clean it up for new owner. Been fun to watch build......never saw full potential . Onward.
As a drag week mega fan (even though I've never been) I am on board with this plan. Be happy that game over got completed and ripped around working great. No shame in moving on. Looking forward to more drag car builds and any other boat builds lol.
That's something a lesson that a lot of people could learn. Next time you snap a bolt off start a timer when you have to deal with the snapped off bolt. See how long it actually takes you to get that hole restored. However long it is I can pretty much guarantee you it's more time than it would have taken to gently work the bolt out using heat, penetrant and patience.
I know it’s gonna be a minute but I can’t wait for the day you and Cleetus are making side by side 6 second passes!
I wouldn't be surprised if Mullet running 6s wasn't some of the catalyst for these decisions.
Along with Alex Taylor, Steve Morris, Tom Bailey,.. There has to be some wry amusement in seeing grassroots drag racing being driven forward in popularity by a group of youtubers having fun, rather then the big names of the sport at major brand name events. Think if I was going to play tourist and do a driving holiday, I'd rather go see some of the drag week events then some of the Top Fuel meets.
@@PiDsPagePrototypes 100% I’ll go to FF way before I go to a NHRA event
@@solitudewoodworking hell yeah brother!
I agree with you 💯
same. that's gonna be a good day.
Permatex 09128 is anti seize for high heat like exhaust bolts. We use it on hardened turbo bolts all the time.
Good luck Mike! I can’t wait to hear it roar again!!
It's nice to see that you're honoring your dad's wish of getting rid of that boat before it kills you. I can't wait to see what you're putting the engine in. I'm thinking pro mod.
Although I really enjoyed following the build, I always thought that without a safety capsule, that thing was kind of sketchy, something a guy with a family should really think about driving. As a drag racer, I really look forward to seeing your next build with the Sonny Lenard Hemi. 200mph is a goal of mine also, I have a ways to go though, been 161 mph so far, probably going to put nitrous in my car this winter.
it was definitely sketchy having that motor in that boat. fun, but sketchy. lol
Hey Mike, Stainless is NOT your friend for exhaust bolts.. High carbon bolts with copper antisieze on big turbo diesels... so turbo anything if you want industrial standard. Usually no threaded housings & staked nuts with thick flat washers, so single use bolts that can be gas axed off when necessary, the flat washer put where you want a sacrificial barrier for the housing when using the oxy torch. cheers
Sad to see the boat go, but a new chapter is exciting and I'm pumped to see what that engine will go into!
Funny how you hit that point in life, I had a 68 GTO that was my dream car as a kid. I bought it from the original owner, it was numbers matching and rough. I messed with it for 20 years drag racing it and daily driving it before I decided to turn it loose. I knew keeping it original was the right thing to do and that wasn't me thing. My wife was floored when I told her it was going away but I had made up my mind. After it was gone I never looked back or regretted it.
Man do I respect the decision and logic behind going to a dry 1320 instead of tempting fate on a completely unforgiving glassy lake. I can’t wait to see the next chapter.
At those speeds, a top end cage and harness and a concrete wall is waaaay safer then being ejected in to a lake and relying on a pair of shorts.
I always use nickel anti-seize on exhaust stuff. Works well with high heat and dissimilar metals. A little more expensive, but beats busting out the drills
I use copper
That engine was a beautiful work of art 👌, good to see it move into something new.
Used to have one of those torches under my kitchen sink. Works a treat when cooking too. I just moved 5,000 miles so I need to get a new one. *adds it to the shopping list*
Sometimes it's very hard to say goodbye so i can imagine this wasn't an easy decision to make. But i'm looking forward to what sounds like a Blasphemi 2.0.
Props for taking the time to clean it up before giving it to the new owner. Most people would just say GL!
The 2 happiest days of owning a boat is the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
Rest of the time includes head scratching
That's why I use nickel antisieze in high temp location or copper seems to stay around in high temp areas & when I get frozen bolts like that I heat them & add candle wax heat at the bottom put wax at top it pulls it toward heat then work bolt in&out
Game over man, game over! --Bill Paxton
They sell swivels for your picker, nice upgrade along with the air/hydro ram
My wife looked up at me while you were undoing that bolt from the turbo flange 😂
I'm glad you are finally taking your dad's advice in getting rid of that boat. You will have so much more fun in a car and it will be safer.
Mic I have so much respect for you bro love all the work you do on here and also Roadkill can’t wait to see the Cadillac to be finished it will be awesome bro 👍🏻
Honestly while having Newbern around was cool I'm honestly enjoying the move back to solo Finn again. More relatable to someone who spends a majority of his time working solo in the shop.
I love your videos man! Sad to see the boat go but at the same time I'd love to see you in the 200mph club haha. Can't wait until you tell us what car your gonna buy for it!!!!
I wish you would have fired it up one last time, yes counter productive as it will get hot, but the amazing sound it produces is its own....looking forward to what it will be going into!
How long is Finnegan going to be staring at that throttle body stack on his wall before he builds another boat around it? :D
I think he's way past it. Besides, he still has the Eliminator.
2- 30 days.
This whole thing is a win. Way to go on the sale, the project, and keeping the Crocodile Dundee motor.
Man , first Newburn and now Gameover? Wth is going on over there?
now that is what you call a successful man. not lazy at all and cleans the boat up even after it's sold. most people would have just pulled the boat out.
We are no longer watching Mike Finnegan. We are now more than likely watching Mike Promodigan lol.
I can see this engine in a pro mod for sure.
I was thinking a drag and drive type promod. Tom Bailey or Jeff Lutz style…. Or maybe Chiefs Promod.
I have removed a lot of stainless hardware working on German cars. My best advise is to not even start loosening the bolts until you've doused the bolt or nut in BG enforce. If any resistance is felt Stop immediately and douse and screw back in and repeat. The penetrating oil keeps it slippery and and cool to prevent the galling. Once its galled, your done.
My life is totally changed because I've been earning $15k returns from my $4k investment with Linda Robin
Same here, i will praise Mrs Linda over and over again because she has great skills, i started with $2000 and after 2week i received a returns of $6500 then i continue with her ever since she has been delivering.
Please how can I contact Mrs Linda Robin? I really like what she has done for you, and I also want to benefit from it.
Thanks 😊
Wow, i've seen a lot of recommendation about Linda Robin, is she really that good.
yes, Linda Robin is the best. She is the only one I can leave my investment with and think less about it, she is my money maker. I just received $13,000 of my investment last month. I am very happy because she is leading me to financial freedom.
Thanks for coming out to the car show last weekend. I didn't see you but the kids all loved seeing the car. Hopefully you'll make it to some of the others around the area next year.
Glad you showed that tight bolt. That's the part of working on cars that you don't see on TV
That's a lucky man getting that boat. It is just beautiful. Onward and upward! Can't wait to see the next project but I can't help but think you're not realizing your full potential. You're so smart and skilled you could do anything. That's just my opinion. Aint worth much. Thanks Mike.
I'm glad you sold it, it was fun watching the journey! New projects are always the best.
Jesus!!! I forgot how Huge that motor is!! Omg!! And yes.. that intake with the 120mm( which is 5” !!) throttle body is a beautiful piece of fabrication!! It’s like the side intakes on 4 cylinders with the throttle body and angled intake…. That thing had a TON of air going thru it!! Wow. The charge tube going thru the intakes is cool! Almost like some Porsche /Penske looking stuff.
I love how he used the 1/4" impact to try and get the flexplate bolts off....get you a 3/8" stubby! Theyre amazing
Use the same torch head but pick up a Mapp gas cylinder(yellow one). It's burns quite a bit hotter than propane.
If you don’t have a friend that can’t be trusted with fire, you are the friend that can’t be trusted with fire.
I’ve been there. You get way more into the idea of the project when your deep in the middle of it that when you finally finish it, the sum of the labor just doesn’t do it for you like you thought it would.
I was always wondering why all of the automotive shows always pulled motors the hard way by pumping the ram on the lift instead of replacing it with the air ram, and then you did it. I have been using one on my lift for probably close to 20 years, makes the job faster and easier. Can't wait to see the next project.
Cool watching this video almost mid January 0f 23, now knowing that the beautiful Sonny’s Big Block is headed into a tube chassis 63 split window vette.
Proud of you. So many youtubers have so much attachment to projects and they just hang around in the background. Like cleetus and the dale truck. people want to see it but he doesn't know what to do with it. so it sits. good for you in knowing what you want and getting after it and not letting it just sit in the background.
He doesn’t know what to do with any of his cars.
I was like, no the Sonny engine. Then you said you were keeping it. Yes the Sonny engine. Glad it will live on!
I use my benzomatic torch constantly, mostly for lighting my charcoal grill but I have definitely also used it for fireworks and maube even my bomg in a pinch.
One more thing to say is mad respect for u still using the tools that u use It recognized the hf tool's lol but I give u mad respect for stay true to ur roots don't change
I have to again say a MUCH appreciative THANK YOU to YOU Mr. Finnegan!! When I was a youngster, I was the "flashlight holder" for my Dad when he tried to do mechanical work in our gravel floor garage. To this day, I remember that bolt that wouldn't budge and got its head stripped or broke off or the tiny part that accidently fell and hearing it go tink, tink, tink as it plummeted somewhere never to be seen again. My Dad getting FURIOUS and throwing whatever tool he had in hand and saying "It's ALWAYS something!!!!" (I had a secondary job of thrown tool fetcher too LOL!). I thank you for coming up against these types of issues but keeping a cool head of acceptance and just going to the next step to unravel and fix the unforeseen problem. It is a fine example to myself and those of us not so gifted with your mechanical abilities. It keeps me coming back to your posts and always will Sir. Can't wait to see the return of the Caddy adventures and the new Game Over motor project!!
My project car has so much work to be done yet I am sitting here watching another man work instead. The beauty of RUclips, thanks for the great content Mike.
This video was worth watching just to see you finesse that galled bolt out and learn you can retrofit an engine hoist for air over hydraulic lifting.
I love running stainless hardware in any application - engine, exhaust, suspension stuff - but the biggest problem is when removing it and if it galls, when you use heat, stainless (hardware or sheet pieces) always contracts a bit after it cools off...
Im really glad that you Atleast kept game overs heart that’s one hell of a power plant
On the propane torch, the short, fat cylinders that are for camp stoves and stuff, screw right on. They're a good bit cheaper than the tall, skinny ones.
Thanks for breaking down the air over hydro. When you first started lifting my mind went haywire
Use nickel antisieze, it has a higher temperature rating and is often used inside of vgt turbos.
I really enjoy these videos. Your taking the time to slow down and show fittings / parts / tools that make life easier (while not feeling like an advertisement) is way better that the constant hijinks videos put out by some other YT channels.
I’d so enjoy having something from your garage even if it’s a signed lug nut I’d cherish it I’ve watched you for years and enjoy every minute of it
I was surprised but then your explanation made 100% perfect sense. Although you redoing the Camaro would have been a lot of content I would have loved to see.
Camaro?
In the first couple of minutes of this video you explained a lot to me. I've always wondered about the "HEMIs". I wondered if all the HEMIs out there were all Chysler based. You explained that your motor was a big block Chevy bottom end with HEMI heads. I couldn't believe that all the die hard Chevy racers and owners would put a Chrysler HEMI in their Camaros or Chevelles or Firebird or any other GM cars. THANK YOU!!
Hemi is just a style. Tons of them out there in the DOHC world. People are just used to them being the classic Mopar Hemi. Fun fact. The Gen 3 Hemi is only a semi-hemi.
The hemi heads here has nothing to do with the Mopar hemi heads. These are heads designed by Sonny Leonard and will not fit any Chrysler product.
I work on boats and drive them for folks for a living and always liked seeing that beast run and was always happy that I did not have to work on it :)
I’ve used perifin wax to get stuck bolts out. Just heat up the flange and hold the wax to it. It melts into the threads and when it cools down a little, screw it out. Doesn’t work every time, but most of the time it does
That would be a cool thing, what can you go racing with and in with that Sonny Leonard engine. Most people end up having a car that just gets swapped motors, DF's Crusher Camaro for instance. it's become your blanket and you're Linus. Nothing wrong with that, and nothing wrong with wanting to go faster and KISS it.
Whoever's getting Game Over is getting a well sorted boat that just needs a new heartbeat, the boat's getting to start new adventures with a new caretaker, like all well loved machines should get to do.
Those things are great, garage stuff, fireworks, evicting spiders, cooking it does it all.
Thanks!
thank you! i appreciate the support, have an excllent day!
I was sad when I read the title but you explained the reasons perfectly and now I agree fully
Saw the buyer's thread on RDP and your responses. Looking forward to you getting the new car. Going to be a fun ride!
Well at least you finished and enjoyed it. Me no garage had a lot of cool cars for my tastes Last was a 65 Nova it was for door, I sold it one of many
I work with stainless steel alot and it always helps when it stops turning, go the other way a few threads and try to back it out again. Best way I have found, yes heat works also but in case someone doesn't have a source of heat.
That’s how you prepare a sold anything, clean, label and giving of extra parts. 🎉
Sad to see Game Over go but, I'm thrilled to hear the Caddy will be getting some attention. I loved that car since I saw it on Roadkill.
Goodbye Gameover.
Hello new 200mph
race car. I would love
to see the Cadi up an
running. That car is
sweet.
SUCH a rad boat that we all got to enjoy vicariously. I am just as stoked for the next project that will have Mullet/ Cleetus, Tom Benson, et al square in the sites of FSM Garage! And, of course, Caddy build. Let's get it!
Mike working at a wastewater plant we use alot of stainless fasteners, in those situations some light tapping on the flange and a liberal application of lubricant down the hole if it's a through bolt, another trick I've used is taken anti seize thinned it out with really light oil and pour that into the hole as well. But good job getting it out.
Never been a big boat guy after losing 2 friends to "fast" boat accidents "while just making a hit on the local rivers" and even being in a bad boating accident myself as a teen. But that said I really enjoyed watching all your boating videos. Now hoping to see a really cool 6 second Drag and Drive car coming soon. Also excited to see the Caddy get finished..... RIP Freddy Clark and RIP to Bobby Patrick.....😞
