Great video - deserves many more views! I’d forgotten what a great piece “The Garden of Fand” is. Bax was undoubtedly one of the greatest orchestrators of all time in my view! My absolute favorite tone poems of his are the majestic and evocative “Tintagel”, the mysterious and stormy “November Woods”, and the relatively unknown yet deeply moving “In Memoriam”, which contains one of Bax’s most glorious “big tunes”.
Charles I live in Manchester England. I love the music of Bax and would recommend the biography by Lewis Foreman. Could you do Tintagel which is a desert island piece?
I really enjoyed this presentation. I collected all of the Lloyd Jones, Bax symphonies. Many tone poems were included throughout the series. I agree, that Tintagel is a highlight. I wondered which recording of Fand you least prefer. It did not surprise me that it was the Naxos. I agree that it is rather dull and colorless. It's just about the only misfire in the Naxos series with DLJ. I don't have the Handley recording but I've heard it on u- Tube. Great pick, Charles. You know your stuff and you describe The Garden of Fand perfectly. The Chicago/Slatkin recording samples sound great. Thank you!
I had The Garden of Fand on LP - Chandos I think. Exquisite.

Inspired me to play mine, again. It's probably my fave Bax tone poem. Mine is the Chandos
Wonderfully done. Off to listen again!

Just to let you know there's a little glitch in the spelling (i.e. 'Aronld').
Corrected! Thanks!
