Went to a dirt track event in Plymouth Wisconsin once that the riders cancelled cause the rain left the track just too wet. Springer was there and he had 12x12 posters of him sliding the Bartels Harley Davidson. Springer, Chris Carr, Steve Morehead, and Scotty Parker all signed the poster. I went back to my car so happy. Then I realised my dirt tracker friend would really like that poster. So I went back and talked to the crew and they hooked me up with another one! My friend was teary eyed when I gave him the poster. He said "it was the nicest thing anyone ever did for him in his life". I tell you this, racing people are the most down to earth, interesting, nice people out there. Met Kevin Schwantz at road america in 2002 and had an equally pleasant experience, total class act.
Damn I just found this video, I see my old buddy Rodney (hotrod) Farris is in this race .always saw n talked to him at the BARBARA FRITCHIE CLASSIC RACE oldest ongoing 1/2 mile dirt track motorcycle race in the country .RIP RODNEY !! sure do miss seeing you on the track !!!!
If you are a motorcycle racing fan then you will like this entire video start to finish. Atherton's repair crew with the pipe bender after the red flag is priceless!
Until you stand up on the fence and feel the air split and the earth shake as these guys blurry by, you haven't really experienced what these guys are doing. Film and audio can't grasp it. The fact that these guys are playing high stakes chess at 100+ on the dirt literally one inch apart at times is hair raising. It takes "Huevos Rancheros" to play with these guys.
Ricky Graham, One of the best people I ever met, a privateer on a six year old Honda to beat three factory Harleys for the 94' championship. Gawd I love watchin' Harley get their asses kicked.
Sure Hatter, one of the greatest ever.... he carried the number 1 plate in 1994 because he won the championship during the 1993 record breaking season, thanks for commenting
The best of times ......The best of dirt ovals.....damn I miss those days. AFT was never as good and I just heard Indian is pulling their factory support last nail in the coffin for AFT. Hopefully a new series but I don't think the fan base will support it

Comparing this to later day, in my case the Sacramento Mile, very sad! We'll never see racing like this ever again ...
Seen them run on a mile track a few times. THROWING THE BIKE INTO THE TURN AT 130 or 140 MPH TAKES BIG TALENT AND BIG BIG BALLS. RESPECT ✊

AFT sorely needs another Dave Despain.
