Update: I ordered another bracket (same kind) but a different riser cable (LINKUP 150mm) and bent the bracket a little differently to make a better fit. The GPU now sits a little closer to the board and a lot closer to the rear of the case. I plan to make a video soon, possibly when I get the Cablemod 180° adapter, to explain how I made everything work and comparing the two methods. We'll call it version 1 vs version 2.
I used this bracket tinyurl.com/3nzz7xkm and this riser cable tinyurl.com/2p8ep2ba If you look at the picture of the vertical mount, I took the rear bracket and moved it to the other side and had to bend it in almost like a "Z" shape. That part gets mounted to the horizontal slot cover screws and the card's I/O gets lined up with the blank vertical slot between the GPU and expansion slots.
