I have 1 truck and I'm barely making it, I have a lot of respect for you. Even with a 96 Peterbilt 379 these times are scary. Last week if I would have broke down I would have been in big time trouble. I'm looking a little better this week.
I'm there with ya. I have one truck also. It's tuff, but we can't give up. I have been driving for 34 years and do not want to give it up any time soon. I hope you make it through, as I am hoping for it also. Good luck and stay safe.
I'm so happy for yall. U have a heck of a team and family and your son is most definitely going to be a awesome truck driver. Much love and respect to y'all
The biggest thing with a small company is that the drivers respect the gear they drive and this reflects on the product they carry. A smaller operator is more likely to deliver an intact load with no damages than one of the cooperate companies. At least this is the case with our company, 9 trucks running in New Zealand.
You guys are such a breath of fresh air especially for us owner operators. That is all very good advice and wisdom. My wife and I can relate to you both because we're all facing the same issues as owner Ops.. Thanks so much for sharing and bringing us hope and encouragement. That goes farther than you know.

Simplicity to fix and diagnose WILL SAVE YOU.

Its another industry but that is how my father kept farming for so long and retired debt free. Older equipment well maintained, controlled costs, looked at how the market was going, changed strategies, stock numbers etc. We still have the last tractor he purchased new in 1958. Having a wife who is clearly so competent, and in control must give you the confidence to grow the business.
Good to see the wifey in the video. Some good information. Not just trucking companies. Any business needs to have good record keeping. Another industry is hurting right now is restaurants- need to know the number for as cost-insurance, food, employee, taxes- business and property. So many want to wing by an ear and when uncle Sam knocking on the door they have no clue as to what their landed cost for an item. Different regulations for both but both have a strong need to know the numbers. To many guy - o/o or leased onto a company has no idea what their cost per mile and if they do - they do not have a maintenance accounts for when the time comes. Anyhow long enough blah blah. Good video and very good information.

Tim has the key element in life and profession that can't be bought, and that's his attitude. His attitude says he can, and his attitude says he's going to enjoy doing it. The one crucial thing you can't teach employees (or anyone else) is a good, positive attitude. With the right attitude, you find that you get paid to have fun at a job you love.
In my opinion, this war against independent owner ops has been going on since the 60s.. I don't know if you remember the old Interstate Commerce Commission days but that was the beginning. The reason why FMCSA is hard on owner ops is because they can't be controlled like the mega fleets can!! I know that's why Werner had to develop the elog system.. the FMCSA was gonna shut em down.. Swift has the most accidents of any carrier yet they are still out here!!
I don’t know anything about the trucking industry but I know what’s going on in the freight industry where I work at, the RR. All one has to do is look up the recent surface transportation hearing with RR here on youtube and you can understand also. You can't beat working direct for a company the brokers are taking to big a cut out of the rate for the load and paying bear minimum I would say a lot of these customers don't realise there ripping the truckers off you stand your ground and good luck from England.

Great way of doing the audits now! I’m from the Chicagoland area I remember having to go into their office waiting hours just so they can do the audit in 20-30minutes this is way more convenient!
I got to agree 100% with your ethic of buying old wagons, and most, if not all your logic is true. my grandfather used to run trucks back in the 80's that were 10 year old, parts were easy to get a hold of, no major waiting times for deliveries of parts, and the truck was back on the road within 3 days or less in most cases. and made a pretty good living out of a fleet of 7-10 trucks and trailers.
I really like your attitude and I don’t look at to many videos on utube because everyone has their own agenda, but I just bought my first truck and I have learned in business and the world when it’s a crisis it’s also an opportunity so thank you for the positive thoughts, this is much needed

I appreciate the information you provided! I'm one of those drivers that left my truck in the yard and became a company driver because the brokers kept screwing us over and it's just a small company with 3 trucks.
You two truly look good together smart and a great couple. If any chance come to your country. You be the first to work for. ...... seeing you trully being real and care. World wide . Good people to work for is hard. With a ear to hear your employers that are real and care and respect to there boss. This is a great company. God bless. Mick Australia. Im old and old school. I’m old school, been a hard working, go getter, that out ran majority of the drivers, set goals and performed like a boss. Been out of driving for several years but I’m about to look for a small company that appreciates a decayed driver that enjoys driving. Fast trucks are cool but a 70 to 75 mph truck will rock hard and bring home the bacon 🥓. 21 years experience, can do most anything.
People don't understand the level of work it takes to do this the right way. Just getting a authority is the bare bones. You need to take your time develop out and build out the business. I am a company owner opt. The thing everybody hates but I am building out a business and they are helping me get to where I am going.
Brilliant Tim ,your doing great nothing wrong with the old gear stick the modern sh t, computers and sensor nightmares an then there's dogs what ever are they going to come up with it all breakdown to try an get another mile per gallon keep positive

Get rid of the middle man and handle things directly and know your stuff upfront . But everybody has to stand together and have each others backs and learn what works and push forward . I will see you all on another video, so stay safe and keep on trucking . As always, Jeffrey !!! 🤗👍💖💫
Tim, really like your channel, your info for truckers is spot on. I’m retired from trucking, I started my trucking journey back 1976.retired 2019. My father & I ran a small trucking co. We would get in a car and go to the areas of states that we operated in and knock on doors of business to find loads home. We had customers local to get to those areas. We hardly ever pulled broker loads. What I’m getting at is, back then in your broker contact to pull for that broker you would have to sign a no compete. Meaning you can’t go to the business where you picked up your load and ask to pull direct cutting out broker, for usually a couple of years. And if you do they can sue you. So do a little work and get your own freight. Shipping clerks can be your best friends. Also OIDA is very helpful for owner ops. Anyway like your videos very much keep um coming brother. Can’t wait to see 1693 come back on line and roll coal. Stay Safe, keep fighting the good fight. 👍👍😎
I’d like to say I started off watching this channel here and there occasionally. As of lately it’s been every video. Tim you are humble and kind and you are teaching your boy great attributes that will get him far in life. You guys seem to have done very well for yourselves and deserve it. I love the family environment built around the shop I spend plenty of days down at ours with the father in law and pops. Unforgettable memories are made and great lessons are taught. Keep on keeping on wishing y’all all the success.
Bro on your videos you drive trucks with speedometers not working , no wiper blades . Disconnect slack adjuster from brake chamber and have a wheel seal gushing. Plus all kinds of other stuff. All on you tube for the world to see.
Ive had my authority for almost 15 years and ive only been audited once. In the only employee so it makes it thats much easier and then officer that did my audit was done in 6hrs and hold me to keep up the excellent work. I still run paper and I know im jinxing myself but I haven't had a RSI in 6 years.
Your missus reminds me of my own mother when my dad had his garage business - she had everything squeaky clean and organised ! Left to my dad there would have been mayhem ! Dad didn't see the benefit until inspection time !! Just shows a bit of hard work and being organised pays dividends in the long run - super stuff !!
Man you have an amazing, hard working and dedicated wife. Whatever you do, you be good to her and make sure you show appreciation for her! Wish you the best moving forward!
As an A&P working General Aviation when a plane went down, unless it was right there at the field, the first notice we would get was a couple black Suburban's showing up with the FAA requesting maintenance records, etc. They want to speak to everyone who worked on the plane, etc. So cancel any plans you had... Staying on top of paperwork seems to be the number 1 best advice for all of this stuff.
Enjoyed the video I'm from Ontario Canada and own a small trucking company myself too and agree with everything you are saying and just like you 95% of my work is direct no brokers involved. Good luck and will be watching for more!!
l got to say this is spot on info. Been there, got that ribbon, the black one, went to a older truck got out of debt and took a different offer after 34 years. Now retired and I just ran across your video. Guys, Tim has given you some very standup, valuable info. I can't agree more with watch what you buy in a truck, get the darn thing moving out and like he said for the down payment or maybe a tad more depending but it will be solid and just take care of it. Key, keep up with those expenses and records as they was just preached to you and it will work. Yep, no brokers. Unless your dealing with a good one that is showing you straight up what your getting and he or she pays you when the load is done. I had success with one broker for almost 4 years and made basically headache free money with low expense. Sometimes they or there but not like the good ole days. What I like that is another pet peeve of mine, ask the questions and get help with that bookkeeping, its not a foul or a out. You guys or going places, keep up the hard work. Or the right work that makes life easier.
In my book as a retired successful entrepreneur hats off to you and your industry. You are the true heroes to this nation. Truckers and all hardworking blue collar Americans.

I spent the last 12 years of my 43+ year career in bus maintenance as fleet manager of a school bus and motor coach company. 350+ units. You think a truck audit is something, try going thru a motor coach audit! We did all of our maintenance records on a maintenance software and when audits came around it made it much easier. They would go then every Pretrip inspection form and find where a driver would write something up, and then ask you for the work order where it was repaired. We would scan the write up ticket into the work order and show where it was fixed. The auditors would really like that. Fun times!

I'm one of those drivers that left my truck in the yard and became a company driver because the brokers kept screwing us over and it's just a small company with 3 trucks.
Great video Tim and Mrs.Gentry I'm so happy for you!!! God is good 👍👍👍👍👍
You two truly look good together smart and a great couple. If any chance come to your country. You be the first to work for. ...... seeing you trully being real and care. World wide . Good people to work for is hard. With a ear to hear your employers that are real and care and respect to there boss. This is a great company. God bless. Mick Australia. Im old and old school. God bless
I agree with you on that my truck run 75 I love it!!!
People don't understand the level of work it takes to do this the right way. Just getting a authority is the bare bones. You need to take your time develop out and build out the business. I am a company owner opt. The thing everybody hates but I am building out a business and they are helping me get to where I am going.
Good advice for any type of company. Just have to keep track and brace what's happening.
Brilliant Tim ,your doing great nothing wrong with the old gear stick the modern sh t, computers and sensor nightmares an then there's dogs what ever are they going to come up with it all breakdown to try an get another mile per gallon keep positive
You better hang on to that woman you got a keeper buddy, plus she's easy on her eyes, plus wealth of information she just let everybody have I just got my CDLs before February 7th about whatever they was changing about you know
Momma's Faith over fear shirt is awesome! Thanks for pushing the message!
Another great video, explaining things about how that things have changed and how you can use some of this to your advantage .
Thanks for this important info on dot authority keep the videos coming God is good.
Mate I'm old school. From Australia. I love working for small companies. God bless to you all. )
Thank you for doing what you do . There are guys that drive trucks .Then there are professionals like you . It's not easy for you but thanks
From one owner op to another , FANTASTIC VIDEO!, Thanks
Hell yeah!!! Ol school for the win… Direct is the way. Currently an company reefer short haul driver. Can’t wait to become an independent OO.
This is one of the best vlogs you guys have made thank you Tim and your wife is so knowledgeable in this Trucking Business
CONGRATULATIONS YTAVIS!! Also a great video TIM & MS.ASHLEY!! CONGRATULATIONS on picking up 2 companies on your own!!
Finally !!! A plain spoken , open and honest , positive attitude trucking video 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 So glad I stumbled across this video .
l got to say this is spot on info.
Behind every good man is a great woman keep it up y’all
This was your best video yet. Great job. Keep it up.
Tim you and wife make Great Team.

Much love and respect to you and the whole crew. Keep on truckin brother
Very inspiring video, I’ve been wanting to pursue my authority but the insurance where I live is so ridiculous that I scratch the idea. You just sparked my flame again. Thank you for sharing.
I'm so happy for you my brother!!✌
I needed to hear this I bought a classic xl two Thanksgivings ago and since I've done about $65,000 in repairs and part of that was just getting the engine inframed in March so a rough start to the year but still going.. Im leased onto a smaller company with about 80 trucks in ky but they have been pretty good to me so can't complain.. thanks for the great video.

Great video. N great info. My buddy has 3 trucks . I will be driving g for him as soon as my eyes surgery permit. And he and I have been talking about what you discussed in this video. Thankyouall and god bless uall
Fun times!
Thanks I love this video and the info. Because I’m looking at getting a over the road truck and keep my dump truck to . Love how u give the info out
