Although I have switched mains here and there and have been maining SGE more often lately, RDM is the job I have mained the most over time and I think it’s one of the best jobs in the game both in player experience as well as usefulness. You cast, you melee, you flip around the battlefield, you save everyone’s asses with basically unlimited instant battle resses… S tier job if there ever was one and it’s all fun to do.
I couldn’t figure how Red Mage for the life of me until my daughter explained it to me and it just clicked into place. This class is so much fun! I’ve stuck entirely to Dark Knight, Warrior, Paladin, Dragoon, and most recently Reaper, but I’m definitely going to start playing Red Mage for the sheer fun of it. I’m definitely not good enough yet to play RM outside of leveling/leveling duties/Trust, but I look forward to when I am good enough to play the class in Trials and Raids. For my money RM has the best glam in the game - the Antiquated Duelist’s set with the Antiquated Murgleis rapier and imho it has the best Victory emote pose. As always, thanks for your informative and enjoyable videos, my friend. Long days and pleasant nights to you and yours.
My advice as a RDM main is to just keep in mind that the RDM is a hybrid Job (just like the Summoner), it functions simultaneously as both a DPS & a Healer once Vercure & Verraise are unlocked. So if your dedicated healers ever seem to be getting overwhelmed, you can always switch gears and toss out a bit of quick single-target healing to help lighten the load on your Healers, or if several allies go down at once, you can do a quick Vercure into Verraise Dualcast combo to rapidly revive multiple allies and relieve your healers of that particular burden. It will burn through your MP very quickly to do so, yes, but you should still be capable of getting about 4-5 downed allies back on their feet (with help from your Manafication GCD ability to regain a portion of your MP more quickly) before completely running out of MP. The RDM is better at quickly reviving downed allies than even dedicated healers, hence the affectionate nickname of "Rez Mage". No Job in the game is more flexible and versatile than the RDM. And even though they are classified as a DPS Job, they can still be a good way to at least start the process of learning how to play a Healer Job as well. :) Best of all, the FF XIV community is by and large so friendly and understanding that if you are trying something new, just let your party members know, and they will more than likely offer you tips and advice, and be very patient and understanding about any mistakes. Palace of the Dead & Heaven on High can also be good ways to test out and learn Jobs you are unfamiliar with.
I was in the same boat. Once I was told about spells having long and short cast timers, I was able to parse everything into place relatively pain-free. I also have used solo PotD runs to learn class action flow, as well as placing abilities on the bars one at a time sorted by level to simulate leveling. RDM is weird in Palace of the Dead, however, as you don't learn your primary longcast spells at the same time so you'll be black mana saturated for several levels.
I jumped head-first into RDM upon unlocking it and never regretted it. It became my main Job from that point on and that fact has never changed. Even a merely "passable" RDM would still be a welcome addition to pretty much any party just due to their overall utility alone. I mean, hell, there was one point where I single-handedly saved our Raid from wiping to the Ruination phase of Orbonne Monastery's final boss. Out of my 8 teammates, going into Ruination only two of us (including me as the team's sole RDM, and the only other survivor was our BRD) were still alive. We'd lost our Tank, both Healers, and 3 of our 5 DPS. In the roughly 20 seconds available before Ruination started, I was able to rez our Tank, both healers, and two of the three DPS (the only DPS I wasn't able to rez in time was our NIN because they were too far away and I'd burned too much of my MP to pull off another Verraise), all in time for us to be there to help for the Ruination phase. And during Ruination I was able to quickly rez our NIN. Once Ruination was over, I saw comments like *"Red Mage Best Job"* and *"i think you mean rez mage"* flooding party chat, and once we beat the boss, I got a whopping 5 Commendations for my efforts! I was grinning ear-to-ear for a long while after that from getting that kind of praise and recognition for my efforts. Hell, look at Mr Happy's very first run of Orbonne Monastery, he made a remark along the lines of "Alliance B has three Red Mages, if they ever get wiped, I'll be very sad.". For people to have that kind of recognition for how valuable and useful a given Job is to have around, you know that that Job must be capable of something amazing. And the icing on the cake? They're easily the most stylish Job in the game, even in combat, they're all about style and flair! :D
I'm still new to the game but I unlocked rdm recently. Being so new to the game the skills absolutely threw me off and I thought there's no way I could learn it after playing lancer/dragoon for 50 levels! But taking a bit of time and trying it out I really think it's going to be my main now.
Overload hit me too so I actually stripped my hotbar down and ran a bunch of low level fates and gradually “leveled up” to learn the actions in increments.
RDM has been my go-to caster ever since I could even play the job, but I do think that an underappreciated negative is how little the job feels like it evolves over time. While it's great to be learning the basis of your combat early, and the core loop of Red Mage is elegant and engaging, I have found myself less excited to level Red Mage over other jobs due to knowing that my final reward will only be another attack to put at the end of my melee combo - getting a few additions to the regular rotation, even something as simple as an enhanced Jolt every so often, would go a long way in letting it feel fresh for me.
Its true. But the rework they did on endwalker change the feeling of the job quite abit. The 50 mana for melee combo now allow you to be flexible. Now you are in controll to when to use melee combo instead of beeing dictated by the mana cap. This allow for fun dps optimization like double melee combo on buff or even triple mellee combo under pots.
I've played a druid in WoW for years, and the red mage is the closest job in FF14 that fulfills what I fell in love with in WoW. I can heal, I can rez, I can do magic ranged damage, I can do physical melee damage, and so on.
I love RDM. Was a WoW refugee since last year, started as BLM and then RDM. My main was Demon Hunter in WoW, and there are a lot of similarities between that and RDM which I really like (the spellcasting, jumping in and out of melee, the survivability/self healing). I want to try other specs but honestly I'm in love with RDM and if it was my only spec forever I would be very happy! Getting to have cool swords and cast spells is just the best of both worlds for me.
Just started playing Red Mage recently, just hit level 60 and I can't wait to see what's next, mainly a SMN and SGE main, wanted to try a new dps class that is more active and gun to play, so I started it, god did I neglected this class, this is by far the main reason for me to play again FFXIV, I only want to build those lvl because I've seen some friends having lvl 90 RDM and it looks crazy fun. And the build I already see will be amazing!
Rdm is so good especially when you put being able to instant revive or heal when all healers are down gives rdm a level of support unmatched by other DPS jobs
They're a hybrid Job, which definitely helps. Can be a good way to learn how to play both a DPS or Healer, and to a lesser extent, a melee Job. And best of all, the RDM is pretty much universally welcome in any sort of party composition, since they can bounce between DPS & Healer as needed, they offer more utility and support than any other Job in the game, including Summoner (the only other DPS Job in the game that can heal & rez allies, though the RDM still does it better). Plus, it's very easy for them to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Just search for something along the lines of "Red Mage saves the day" here on RUclips. You'll get multiple clips of RDM's saving entire runs just by themselves. :)
@@dimitriosgladio059 With their casting (healing or otherwise), just remember to exploit their Dualcast passive as much as you possibly can. That passive is their bread and butter and what makes the RDM work so well. Cast something with a short casting time like Jolt or Vercure to proc Dualcast, and then use that Dualcast proc to cast something with a longer casting time like Verraise instantly. You don't want to try hard-casting something like Verraise due to the 10 second casting time, and due to it requiring you to stand still while casting it if you do not *have* to do so (10 seconds can feel like an eternity in some of the rougher boss fights, particularly bosses like the ones in Orbonne Monastery), unless you want to use your Swiftcast GCD rather than just proccing Dualcast instead. :) Just don't forget that your Manafication GCD is there if you ever get to the point of having burned through most, if not all, of your MP. Manafication is one of your best tools (outside of using Ethers) to recover spent MP more quickly. Keep in mind that every use of Verraise (Dualcast or not) costs you a whopping *2400* MP, so with 10K total MP, you can only cast it a total of four times (not counting castings of Jolt/Vercure to proc Dualcast) before running out of MP (provided you don't use Manafication and/or Ethers to help recoup some of that MP). So, if you ever have to rapidly revive multiple allies all at once, then it is very likely going to burn through most, if not all of your MP reserves.
Rdm is my first ranged dps caster class I recently leveled it to 56 and still learning >_< i suck it at but oh well lmao. The most im fear and have anxiety of is keeping an eye on party’s health with Vercure . I know rdm has rez too but idc what bad people will say. Its fun i like it
He mentioned RDM for eureka and bozja. Haven’t started the Eureka grind recently (pagos sucks). I went in as RDM and it has been a blessing for myself and many others.
Was a little disappointed you didn't have a msg opener, but the Snake Eater outro totally made up for it. As a RDM, I have to say there is something really really satisfying with rezzing a healer who immediately uses lb3 to rez the entire party to save the raid. Also....3 finishers is freaking amazing! Thank you Endwalker!
I love RDM- feels like the most 'Final Fantasy' of the jobs. You've got a sword, elemental magic, and healing magic. The glamours are straight fire, and damage and party utility are both great. The gameplay IS boring though. One or two more non-jumpy, non-dashy melee oGCDs (maybe off proc) would be wonderful- especially if they gave a tiny boost in white/black metre.
As a starting seedling, I mainly want to play Red mage because it reminds me of Hero from Dragon Quest and his/her omni-versatility His/her because you can pick your gender in DQ 3, 4, 9 and 10 online.
I tried to learn RDM by myself last year and I just couldn't understand the dualcast/bar dynamic so I dropped it. I tried again months after and just couldn't again and then I tried 2 weeks ago again because I wanted to the magic ranged DPS role quests cause it's the only ones I'm missing and also wanted to try something different (I don't like BLM and not interested in SMN for now) so I gave it a last chance. I had to ask on reddit (I had watched videos in the past and I just didn't get it, idk why...) how it works and with some answers and seeing some rotations I FINALLY got it... I'm now level 79 and it's been really fun. What I like is the aesthetic cause it really represents me and I'm a good looks first always guy, Second is the feeling of the skills, the feedback feels really nice and when you go meele phase and start to weave in skills in between it feels really powerful and good, I recently learned verflare and verholy and damn those feel GOOD, I also learned riposte I think it's called which is like a single target meele skill but I don't know yet how to implement it in the rotation. Anyway, so far so good with the class, loving my Virtu duelist tabard glam but excited to try the EW artifact, and then my life is over because I haven't found other tops that I like for RDM xD.
If you're talking about reprise, you don't use it. And when it turns into Enchanted Reprise (wich lets it be used at range) it turns into an action that you can use in case of forced movement if you don't have anything else, but you also want to try to use it as little as possible. Its potency and its cost make it the least interesting filler during forced movement and really only there if you have no other option to not lose a gcd. Swiftcast and acceleration will be higher priority if you have to move outside of your dualcast window. Enchanted Reprise will be the last resort, and you want to avoid finding yourself in situations where it's the only thing you can use. Still better than completely losing a gcd though. Reprise is basically RDM's version of BLM's Scathe.
Dude I was in the same situation - watched videos, read guides, the whole nine yards, and it still didn’t click into place for me. What worked was my daughter explaining the class to me; she’s been playing XIV since ARR launched and she’s ridiculously good at every class. Once she explained it to me it all made perfect sense and now it’s ridiculously fun!
I've had RDM unlocked for ages barely touched it. I just started using it again. At first I wasn't excited about it, but by level 70 I finally started to enjoy it. Side note Rapier of the Demon is hands down one of the best weapon glamours for RDM. Especially from a thematic point.
can only identify some of it. head gear is a RDM relic gear pvp version. chest piece is the Moonward Top of Casting. A lvl 90 gear. Shoes looks like one of the Nier Raid pieces. Don't know bout the hands and legs. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
Duelist's chapeau (Head), Moonward Top of Casting (Body), Tigerskin Armguards of Casting (Arms), Moonward Bottoms of Casting (Legs), YoRHa Type-51 Boots of Casting (Feet)
Duelist's chapeau (Head), Moonward Top of Casting (Body), Tigerskin Armguards of Casting (Arms), Moonward Bottoms of Casting (Legs), YoRHa Type-51 Boots of Casting (Feet)
how do i get that dps meter on the buttom right that he has? im new to the game and been wondering how to check my dps like he is? pls some1 let me know asap!
That's odd most like myself find blm boring to play and if you want to play optimally you go over with only a 6% more dmg and outclassed by melee so I've always respected people that stayed with it
@@pyro5159 as BLM you arent competing with melees in dmg you are competing with the other casters. I find the job very engaging and I love playing it but to each their own not everyone likes to spam Fire IV XD
@@DesperiusFFXIV I shall have to find that eventually I have only been playing for 10 days now and I'm still in AAR, but I just unlocked Red Mage and I am in love. All I see is Red- I drank the Verr Kool Aid and now I need the Ver Shots
As of 2024 I found the class to be so one dimensional sadly... but for pros, you can res the healer/s and other unworthy in your party XD. And all that without having to cast a long ass revive because passive hah.
idk what it is about rdm, but i rlly cant get it down. not to mention im not a big fan that get in/get out moves do damage and are therefore required to be all spent in the burst phase.
I always wanted to play a magic caster who also uses a meele weapon for dealing damage, and rdm is the perfect embodiment of my desires. Alas, in reality it turned out that despite visuals and spec’s range/meele mechanics, it has nothing to offer and is extremely boring to play with a few buttons which make our rotation suuuuper boring. p.s. But let’s be honest, rdm is still one of the most beautifully drawn specs in the game.
Man, if I had to add my own negative to the job, I honestly find it to be boring. I have rdm at lvl 90, but at lvl 60 I was already tired of it. While the black/white mana system is cool at first, virtually nothing changes in the 40 levels you're playing the job. Even the finishers are just like "ok, now press the same two buttons in the opposite order"
Nothing? Offensive and defensive buff on demand raise mitigation and is fun compared to other casters As for melee Sam and nin are fun rprwas overly simplified drg and mnk had most positional removed so just stay in place Drk and war are killing it this time And ast is the best healer atm Just personal perspective but as long as you enjoy the class you play
I had to stop and pause at around the 4:19 mark or so. When you made the comment about how it might be boring playing a summoner for 12 hours a day during Ultimate progression. If your playing 12 hours a day something is seriously wrong with your priorities. If your young and have free time like that then you can be spending it on a thousand other productive things. Like going to the gym, making real life friends, studying more, finding a part time job, or any number of other options. If your older then your spending way too much time in front of a computer and not interacting with either your family or the real world. I suppose if you are a content streamer and then it would make sense. I mean I get it a lot of people make pretty good money doing that. I think that the market is becoming overly saturated with streamers. People drawn to what they believe is easy money by sitting in a chair and playing a game all day. For one I personally don’t even watch them. For two most people just aren’t that interesting to listen to. I would rather play the game myself and then watch somebody else do it. So then who does that leave? I suppose if you were an invalid and have limited mobility or something like that then I could see spending more time indoors like that.
@@leonardceres9061 I am very successful thank you. You are very judgmental and have a narrow way of thinking. Or you probably just too old. ESPORTS is a career. Streaming is a career. The world is changing. Don't judge people by the standards you set for yourself. Focus on improving your own life first. But I can see you have a lot of time on your hands. You seem bitter and lonely. I feel for you.

@@RandomQuestNPC Gotcha I thought so.
RDM pve: Easy bro.
RDM pvp: Oh god. What unholy complex is this.
Yo that glam is hot! What are the pieces?
can only identify some of it.
head gear is a RDM relic gear pvp version.
chest piece is the Moonward Top of Casting.
Ty all
Really enjoying rdm and devil hunt...I mean drk best classes
RDM PvP iss fiyaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
Sorry to ask but what is your red mage glamour?
Duelist's chapeau (Head), Moonward Top of Casting (Body), Tigerskin Armguards of Casting (Arms), Moonward Bottoms of Casting (Legs), YoRHa Type-51 Boots of Casting (Feet)
@@Mercy_Medic thank you kind sir.
Honorable mention: it's best girl's job class!
SMN is still my main but RDM has that little bump to difficulty to make it a bit more fun to play
4:15 LOL the griefing the stack mark. Ma man
Objection - Hearsay !
No you are right, was heavily distracted at that moment. Should have taken care more 😅
@@desperius1586 glad it's in there. Have me a good chuckle. cheers
how do i get that dps meter on the buttom right that he has? im new to the game and been wondering how to check my dps like he is? pls some1 let me know asap!
Im a BLM main I tried playing RDM in uwu and i suck at the job hard so i swapped back to BLM
@@x_Xith_x what about the old rotation Blizzard Blizzard Blizzard Blizzard lol
@@pyro5159 nooo icemage hurts my soul
thanks for the vid. which act overlay do you use?
Ret mage...nice
Us red mages have the best drip that’s reason enough lol
2 defining reasons:
1-versatility
2-not machinist
I honestly feel like red mage doesn't have negatives. Haha
What is the glam she's wearing at 0:08? Thanks
What is your glamour set and how do I get it- It is verr glorious.
Mostly the first Tomestone gear from Endwalker, plus job Red Mage Job Hat and the Anemos Rapier from Eureka Anemos
@@DesperiusFFXIV I shall have to find that eventually I have only been playing for 10 days now and I'm still in AAR, but I just unlocked Red Mage and I am in love. All I see is Red- I drank the Verr Kool Aid and now I need the Ver Shots
Okay so odd question, what overlay is that for ACT? I love it, its so simple
Check out my 2021 ACT guide 👍
I played alot of ffxi but not really ffxiv. Can red mage heal in duo scenario
As of 2024 I found the class to be so one dimensional sadly... but for pros, you can res the healer/s and other unworthy in your party XD. And all that without having to cast a long ass revive because passive hah.
What’s the glam at 7:21?
What do you main ?
idk what it is about rdm, but i rlly cant get it down. not to mention im not a big fan that get in/get out moves do damage and are therefore required to be all spent in the burst phase.
Well dont forget, red is faster
three times faster!
And what is the use of res a lot if in savage no one dies anymore when the mechanics are known
in advanced content that is not so important
People still can make mistakes in Savage and above content.
Mistakes still happen and even learning parties can be salvaged with a rdm
What outfit is that your wearing I want it 😂 😂
i love RDM but i Suck at FF14 x'D
Reason 1 to 5 - no fucking dots
Because RDM. What more do you even need?
I just can't play casters....too long of cast time
I always wanted to play a magic caster who also uses a meele weapon for dealing damage, and rdm is the perfect embodiment of my desires.
Nothing? Offensive and defensive buff on demand raise mitigation and is fun compared to other casters
As for melee Sam and nin are fun rprwas overly simplified drg and mnk had most positional removed so just stay in place
Drk and war are killing it this time
And ast is the best healer atm
Just personal perspective but as long as you enjoy the class you play
Uhh 2:18 wtf is happening here? 😂
Ah video of Pink guy^^
ewwww, watching you spam a button 10 to 15 times before cooldown happens makes my head hurt
12hrs?those are rookie numbers.
That's for those hard-core raiders who take time off you know the ones that compete for world first
@@Delaqua.Gaming Yeah well more then that and you are a pro at failing life.
