REVIEW:
Right after I was done with my exams, I had to meet my best friend and a lunch date was on the charts! Wanted to try a new place and Galawat’s menu caught my attention. They have 2 outlets in Salt Lake - One in Sector 1 and another in Sector 5. We went to the outlet in Sector 1.
Ambiance is nice with beautiful golden lights. Hospitality is great so a plus one for that.
Coming to what we had,
• Galawati Kebab Rs.295, Taste 4.5/5: Melt in the mouth kebabs made with mutton. The kebabs were meaty with a very soothing subtle kick of spices. Loved it. Recommended.
• Malai Tangri (2pcs) Rs.240, Taste 2.75/5: This one lacked flavours and also were very dry. Malai tangris / Kebabs have very mild flavour and are usually creamy - This one was neither. At parts, it was a bit more charred than I’d enjoy.
• Sheermal Rs.40, Taste 4.75/5: This was something I have never had before and it blew my mind. Sheermal is actually and Iranian flatbread and looks a tab bit different from what was served here. The bright orange bread you see in the picture is the sheermal. It was sweet with a lovely essence of saffron! The dough is made of milk and ghee which is why it’s extremely soft. Went so well with the galawati kebabs!!! A must try.
They serve a generous portion of Laccha pyaaz (Sliced Onions) and green chutney which I really like! The only downside is that there green chutney is extremely watery so they need to work on that.
Moving on to the mains,
• Mahmudabad Gharana Biryani Rs.395, Taste 4.25/5: A very unique biryani, I’d say. The biryani had flavours of Lucknow with a mild hint of spiciness. The biryani comes with 2 pcs of Chicken kebabs, 2 pcs of Mutton kebabs and a piece of mutton seekh. It’s an interesting combination. I really liked it.😬
• Gosht Korma (3 pcs) Rs.320, Taste 4.25/5: A slow cooked curry having a base of yoghurt, cashews and almonds. The gravy was smooth, bursting with flavours. The mutton was tender. We had this one with sheermal and it went so well with it!
So yeah, a really good place you can visit if you want to treat yourself to something other than the usual North Indian/Mughlai fare.

Crisp and to the point 👏👏👏and although the green chutney does looks watery and as you said the malai tangri wasn't that flavourful enough I would say its still better than majority of the restaurants adding loads of cream and butter on top(for malai tikka)
Thank you so much 💕💕 Oh yes, some places overdo it to the point that it’s unbearable. Malai tikka is supposed to be marinated with malai and not topped with amul cream!! But sadly, not a lot of restaurants get it. The art of making malai tikka is fading away and it’s sad. You really cannot differentiate between cheese chicken kebab and Malai kebab. 😪
