      I find accuracy usually depends on how bad your opponent plays, as it's much easier to spot the best move when someone keeps hanging free pieces.

    • @RaniaIsAwesome
      @RaniaIsAwesome 13 дней назад +3

      @@LoreTunderin Also if you play a boring symmetrical d4 opening and just agree to a draw after 20 moves of nothing your accuracy will be like 95% no matter what your rating. This is why Kramnik's interpretation of accuracy is so ridiculous - it only means something if it's like 98% accuracy AND ALSO the game was fairly sharp, so a human wouldn't get that sort of accuracy in a very sharp game.

    I wonder if someone is able to check on a database if this is the record most number of points of materials captured by a single piece.

    • @QSC0P3
      @QSC0P3 9 дней назад

      Well I got interested by this and I gave it a shot. It works, but processing a large number of games takes wayyy too long so I had to put some limits in place.
      For example, in this attempt I ran through all games on Lichess from june 2016 (n=6136419). I then applied a few filters to greatly reduce that number, which included only looking for up to 900 elo rated players (as these things probably don't happen to more advanced players) and only check in rated games (as that's even funnier) and for games that did not end in a draw (because besides stalemate why should they if you totally obliterate your opponent with a single piece). That reduced the number to a way more manageable number, which I then ran through a script that keeps track of the points of material captured by every single piece during that game.
      For the month June 2016, within the limits I described above, that led to the following winner: lichess.org/vP5DrTc2 with 18 points with a white rook!
      (Keep track of the rook starting on the A1 square, it goes pretty ham eventually haha).

    Hey Gotham, I have a game that id like to submit for how to lose at chess. 650 Elo. White had +5 then blundered again and again until black had M1 on the board. Black went for an endgame and had a rook and 4 connected passed pawns and white just had kind and rook. White won. Typical 600 elo craziness. How do I submit it?

      @@aweebthatlovesmath4220 If we take the Alpha Zero version that beat SF back then and put it in a match with the current SF... well, SF would win 97% of the games. SF's strength has... exploded since then.

    Ever since I was a little kid, I loved to follow the world Chess championships.
    The very first chess championship was in 1886 and was won by an American named Steinitz. To kind of compare the first world series in baseball was 1903. The first super bowl in football was 1967. Chess has been around a lot longer and has had a lot more history than all of our favorite sports now. And chess is a legitimate world championship.
    When the Cold War came along, the USSR, and then later to be known as Russia began to dominate the world Chess championships.
    That all changed for only one year when Bobby Fischer in 1972 won the world championship from the Soviet Union.
    There were all kinds of crazy politics and the chess match actually had to happen in Iceland.
    In 1996, history was made when the computers became stronger than humans in chess. The first time was a world famous match between world champion. Gary Kasparov and IBM's deep blue.
    Today the computers are even stronger.
    Along with the rise of computers though, kids are becoming stronger and stronger at chess at earlier ages.
    There was a young player from Norway at the age of 13 was able to achieve a draw against Gary Kasparov. His name is Magnus Carlson. During the game, Magnus actually had the advantage but playing it safe, accepted the draw. Magnus Carlson went on to become one of the best endgame players, and is a master at converting games that should not be won into wins.
    2 years ago, Magnus Carlson was faced against this player, who early on in his career had been caught cheating. Anyways, this guy known for cheating beats Carlson. This whole conspiracy thing about this guy cheating in chess got pretty deep. So in another tournament, Carlson was faced with the same guy and resigned on the first move and pulled out of the tournament. Carlson then decided not to defend his world championship.
    So now we're back to the Cold War. The current world champion is from China. I believe his name is Ding Liren.
    On the women's side of the world Chess championship, it's held by a Chinese woman, and another Chinese woman won the candidates tournament. So either way, on the women's side, China is going to win.
    But now this is where history is being made.
    In the early 2000s, Anand from India won the world championship. I played online chess, against people from everywhere and they always show the flag of what country they're from. Chess in India became super popular, after Anand from India won. A good majority of my online matches are against people from India.
    So history was made again because a 17-year-old from India won the candidates tournament. D. Guckish is the youngest player ever in the history of Chess to play for the world championship.
    So along with the rise of the computers, online games, youtube; the strength of young kids playing chess has also increased.
    It's kind of a fun subject. I've been playing chess for 44 years, played in big classical tournaments, played thousands and thousands of games online. But in my last big tournament, I won a game against a super strong player. But in the tournament I lost a game to 12 year old girl.

    I feel like trying out every established opening in chess, just to drop back to that level to have that kind of fun, playing such bad chess. And I can do it too; I'm only 600 Elo at the moment.

    I met you quickly in The Hague, but I didn’t want to intrude on your free day with Lucy.
    If you get the chance I would recommend trying some of the orange pastries sold in almost all bakeries through the Netherlands, like the orange tompouce. 👍🏼
