    Love it! I’m also teaching myself to TIG weld. Same thing just moving the puddle around and adding filler.

    It’s easy to splice in wire for more length

    I actually have one of these. Got it as a gift. I didn't have the time to build my own. I have used it twice in two years. Once to extend a 12ft 1" stainless hand rail. The other was purge welding 1-1/2 stainless pipe to hose nipples. Both times I had the same problem. Could not turn the unit slow enough. If you lean on part or the table at low speed it stalls completely. I am looking for a motor upgrade to get slower speeds and more torque. I don't recommend this for daily use.

      I was actually wondering if a resistor, or even an old sewing machine pedal could be put in-line of the stock pedal to get some more control... the problem is that that motor has too little torque. A standard drill motor from a Harbor Freight drill might be a better upgrade.

    Thanks. I bought one of these a short while back and am wondering where the welder ground attaches

    I like buying cheap Chinese machinery, fully understanding that at ten cents on the dollar, I get just the basics of what I really want. Then, I rip it apart, clean it up and modify the hell out of it to perform as I would want. Needless to say I just bought one of these.

    Just for the hell of it I bought one last month, It arrived broken and in pieces in the wooden crate/box and the seller sent me a second one for free and said keep both ,The second one was in better shape but still slightly unfinished.Both have a 6 foot cord to the foot pedal .There must be No quality control at the factory, It does work so we shall see, It will make a handy turn table for videoing. Welding ??? Enjoyed your video.

      Take it how you will. I think it's great... if it were under $100.

    It,s the same story for everything you buy ??
    You Get What You Pay For.
    If you need less, Pay Less.
    If You Need More. It,s Obvious.
    Good honest review.
    I hope it helps those who watch.

      @Barry Manilowa
      That is true.
      But you need to remember when buying logo gear it is a proven product that has had some research and development to make it a better product.
      I understand where your coming from though.
      No one wants to pay more than is necessary.
      But when it comes to quality.
      How much you spend will dictate the quality of what you are buying.
      No Doubt.

    The ground cable of the welding machine is connected to the 2 lock nuts? It doesn't fall off? Thank you.

      No... surprisingly not! It's a pretty crap design, but it works in a pinch.

    This cheapo positioner has some value in some specific repetitive jobs, ive seen these and I'm thankful you posted this video. I'd even cocsider one if it could turn at say 1rpm or even a little less, AND if it had more than a max welding amp rating much higher than 80amps. I would like to ask two questions, are there any specs on that motor? Numbers? And, while welding does that foot pedal click off the rotation and then back on? Im considering building one of these. I think for less than 200 I can put together a much more robust unit, I just need to do my homework on electric motors and power supplys

      I will have to double check the motor for specs, but I totally agree that building one is going to be better than buying one in the long-run. There are multiple plans for units that can be run off of a drill (cordless or corded) and can achieve as slow as .5 rpm. They sell plans or even kits for about he same price as this unit is out the door. The foot pedal needs to be held the entire time you want it to rotate... not a click on click off. I'll report back with the motor specs.

      Motor is 24V, DC. SG-KP5244500 That's all it says on it.

      Thanks much for checking. Have you ever welded above 80 amps? Say 130 or so? I can see some aluminum welding easily require more thzn 80 amps. I think that is the main thing holding me back since my need for this wojld be very minimal

      I have welded schedule 40 pipe (1") in it at 140A, no issues yet. I do ground directly to the copper spring ground on the chuck plate, I use HF start too.

    I bought one just like this at an auction for $80, So I can't complain. It's a rarity when I do use it so I figured I couldn't go wrong.

    Does anyone know if you can set up a backpurge (sanitary welds) through the rotational chuck in the positioner?

    • @AimlessMoto
      @AimlessMoto  5 лет назад

      You can't. There is no port or hole back there, not that you couldn't rig something up through the teeth of the chuck with some tin-foil shoved in there... but you'll wrap up your hose pretty quick.

      If your welding a pipe with an open end like in the video. What we would do is, either tack on a dairy fitting and attach a dairy fitting cap thing with a nipple coming out of it to hook a purge line on or we'd tape the end, poke a hole in it and shove a purge line in there and do our best to tape around that as well. You want some purge to escape so it doesn't have to be perfect.
