      Also what colour was the lamp you had 20 years ago?

    It's 5 years since this video. How is the lamp now? Does the candle flame make it black? How to clean? Pros and cons??

    Enjoying these non clothing reviews. Haven't had a lava lamp since a child, but this review has me considering buying one. Quality content as usual, keep it coming.

    Thanks for describing the colors and contrasts when lit. Wonder if the yellow-wax/blue liquid combo has better contrast when lit over the green-wax/blue liquid...

    How hot do the candle lamps get? I would like to place below a shelf, there would be a 3 inches of air space above the lamp. Can you hold hand above lamp or is it too hot? Cheers

    Hello! I live in an igloo with my family and it has always been my dream to get a lava lamp. We have a big igloo with a fireplace in the main part but as you know an igloo will never get too warm inside :( Would you still recommend me to get the lamp and try or should I give up my dream?

    For those who already have a fireflow, mine after I use it for 1 hour the lava doesn't go up but stays down. It's still freaking hot, the candle is still on BUT the lava won't go up after 1 hour of use? Why? Is it normal? Should I call after sells service to get a new bottle?

    • @Stratoszero
      @Stratoszero 3 года назад +1

      My humble opinion is they are essentially shite and should not be sold. I was given one as a gift, which is a shame as otherwise I would have returned it. The candle heats the bottle up too quickly, then overheats it, so the wax becomes an immobile blob very quickly. There is no adjustability in a bare flame. Also due to Mathmos' strange obsession with coloured liquids these days (there seemed to be a lot more clear options a few years ago) you can barely see the wax. Mine is red wax with purple lava, which is basically invisible at night. Like I said, utter shite product with so many drawbacks I can't understand why they still exist. I have pondered whether to try and convert it to use an electric bulb holder, but honestly would rather have a proper Astrobaby.

      Yes just coloured liquids which obscure the wax and spoil the whole effect.

    Hey, I've gotten back into my lava lamp collection this month. I was curious, is MaTHMOS, UK only? I hadn't heard of them until I started looking at Lava Lamps online. Over here in the US, I've always gotten them from a company called Lava Brand. I like some of the lamps I've seen from MATHMOS online, but, my question / concern is, if I were to order one, would it come with a UK plug, or do they also sell them to work in the US, and other countries. Thanks. Great video, never saw the candle powered ones. Nice concept, and I'm sure it saves on the power bill too :)

      Clinton only available there it would come with the UK plug you will need an adapter. Been waiting for them to come to Canada for years. I want one so bad the Lava brand ones are terrible last a year or so, they are cloudy and the lava flow is crap.

      @@Petey17564 I have one Lava Lamp I got over 20 years ago used, that was made in 1996 that has the old style flow. The kind folks at Ozzing Goo helped me restore life by placing that lamp on a dimmer to help control heat, so it would no longer overheat.
      As far as the newer lamps I've seen the issues with cloudyness on the smaller ones. On the 16 and 17 inch Lamps I've gotten from places like Spencer's have come clear. The main thing is, they have a different type of flow than my old lamp. I wouldn't call it crap, but i would say it's different and not as random as the old lamp. The old lamp is also more fluid so it moves faster too, I've considered putting the new ones on a dimmer and changing the heat to see if I can improve those as well at some point.

      @@macinman have to check that place out I got one fro Spencer’s about a year and a half ago. 17 inch cloudy and just only massive blob. My older one is around the same age as yours going to see what that place can do. Just look at the lamps from mathmos no comparison to these ones.

      Asda tealights work well
      You need to raise the tealight slightly by pushing an empty tealight holder upside down into the holder part. Then sit your tealight on top of this.

    I think these sound like a great idea but actually are pretty disappointing. The wax on a tall lava lamp gets illuminated by the bulb and gives off a lovely soft light. The light from a candle is insufficient to do this so they are a bit of a damp squib in low light IMHO.
