The games explain most of it. Also a sacrificial bride is kinda exactly what it sounds like. The church offers up sacrificial brides presumably all of Kanato’s wax brides were given up from the church. They’re just sacrifices to keep peace I’m guessing. I didn’t play the games so don’t take my word on most of this. It wasn’t until after they were born and Beatrix was getting attention from Karl that Cordelia then decided she wanted kids which is why the triplets aren’t the oldest. Also, biologically, Ayato is the youngest and Laito is the oldest but, because they were born at a time in Japan where the youngest was considered the oldest, they switched places.

They probably would’ve treated her a lot better if they were raised better. It’s not uncommon for children who were raised in abusive environments to repeat the abuse later in life as it’s all they’ve ever known. It’s a vicious cycle of abuse that’s difficult to overcome without the proper support. It’s hard to show love and kindness to someone when nobody’s ever shown it to you.
Laito was sexually abused by Cordelia from childhood. In a drama cd, as much as he usually pretends otherwise, Laito confesses to Ayato and Yui that he knew the relationship with his mother was wrong, and made him feel tainted. He was just a child wanting maternal love.

They probably would’ve treated her a lot better if they were raised better. It’s not uncommon for children who were raised in abusive environments to repeat the abuse later in life as it’s all they’ve ever known. It’s a vicious cycle of abuse that’s difficult to overcome without the proper support. It’s hard to show love and kindness to someone when nobody’s ever shown it to you.
