"To not exist for yourself is a beautiful thing" Wow I love this guy
That’s why most good parents have kids
Definition of maturity.
Taking the chargers on opening day, 2 prior playoff teams that got embarrassed in the wildcard round, man!
Sounds awful
Selflessness.. soooooo profound 😑
Phenomenal. I am so happy he's our coach. Years upon decades since we can confidently say "oh yeah- we've got a good one" since Shula. Love watching this team
🙏
Well, you did have Jimmy Johnson
I don't think I could have ever said that I can relate to any coach in the NFL until now. This guy just seems like the dude that grew up down the block from you and remembers you when you see him years later. I am happy that the Dolphins organization has such a great coach and a great team. (NFL fan up in Northern Canada).
To hear the leaps and bounds of Mike McDaniel’s story is very honest and to see where he is now along with his personality makes him my personal favorite head coach.
"Don't a judge a man by his past but judge him by where he is going."
Deion Sanders (Coach Prime)
How can anyone not like this guy. Lifelong, diehard Niner fan, but I’m also rooting for the fins now
Possible '84 super bowl rematch this year. Dolphins vs 49ers. McDaniels vs Shanahan. It would be awesome.
@@brandocalrissian3294 Not really. I rather they each win one. As a 9ers fan, I would hate to see either of them lose one to the other.
He just radiates authenticity somehow.
you can tell this dude would never lie to you
He is unapologetically himself.
I feel like this guy is the real deal. Vulnerable, inspirational, humble, and downright brilliant. Can't help but root for Mike McDaniel.
Mike McDaniel is a very inspiring man.
One of the coolest coaches in the NFL. I'm sure the players enjoy playing for him.
Great interview and story behind the man who is the Coach of The Miami Dolphins. I've been a Dolphins fan all my life and I can tell you, Don Shula is probably smiling right now in heaven just thinking about how inspiring and authentic Mike McDaniel is and how lucky we are in South Florida to get him as the Head Coach for the Miami Dolphins. I'm one who is rooting for his success and the The Miami Dolphins success.
Period !!!
We are so fortunate to have Mike as our Coach! He's an exceptional human being, Father, Husband and Coach. All the players hold him in highest regards. Many have said "I'd die for this man". He deserves Coach of the Year for his insane play calling and what he's done for the City of Miami with the Dolphins!!
He's gotta be one of the most unique and improbable head coaches in NFL history. And it's wonderful. I love his nerdiness and respect the heck out of his sobriety.
He's transphobic...
@@Loquacious_Jacksonhow is he transphobic?

100% going to back up his words and be a hall of fame head coach. Us phins fans love you Mike
From Denver to Miami, his body will never forgive him in that heat lol. Very inspiring, also hilarious Miami dropped 70 on a team that didn’t hire him is the cherry on top. Hats off to Mike
I love McDaniel and as a Broncos fan how did we not even give this guy an interview he’s a Broncos fan who grew up in Colorado. Not getting him and going with Hackett is such a big whiff. It’s as big as us going with Vance Joseph over Kyle Shanahan.
You still got Vance Joseph. 70-20
Completely agree. I keep saying this same thing about ignoring Kyle Shannahan and McDaniel.
JOE ELLIS
@@sonnyp1573 I could not have explained it better myself Joe Ellis and his blood feud with Mike Shanahan cost us Kyle.
Agreed.
Sobriety is a beautiful thing! Wow NFL Films…this one of the realest stories I’ve watched on here.
Blessings to you and your family coach McDaniel!!! So glad your sober....I'm working on it as well!! I'm a lifelong Dolphins fan since 1971.....looking forward to you "leading us" to that third championship soon!! 'PHINS UP!!🙏🐬
Mike has balls the size of grapefruits. To admit to an addiction in this profession is beyond admirable
Ayo??? 🤨
I'm a big Dan Soder fan and to hear that 2 best friends from high school both raised by single mothers who were picked on and dismissed by the popular crowd, both went through alcohol problems and came through them and both succeeded in fields where it's nearly impossible to reach the top.
Very inspiring story
So real, so talent, so confident, so cool, so funny! Really like this guy. I am sure he will be inducted into HOF.
I hope he coaches for 40 years. As someone who had to get sober after meeting the love of my life, I think the world of this guy
I think he will hold the job in Miami until he doesn't want it anymore. He's gonna be the next Don Shula.
agreed, hes a keeper@@brandocalrissian3294
cool ass story for a cool ass dude, excited to watch years and years of him as a head coach.
This man has a black man for a father...no bs words..Much Success and Happiness to him and his family and friends 💯
It really is crazy how one random interaction can change your life and in this case his mothers life forever. Life is just wild.
I got a Robert Delpino auto as a kid when he was with the Rams 20yrs later our kids were on the same Basketball team at the YMCA Keep up the Great Work coach McDaniel
And one day his kids can play on the same basketball team as Robert delpino's kids
@@TheBigFunShow That would be Great or his Grandkids
good for you Mike and your family... such a great watch, thanks @NFL Films
Everyone is brushing past the fact that the man went to YALE, like it’s some normal university. 😂 love this man and what he has done for the league.
SOOOO happy & proud that Mike McDaniel is head coach of my Miami Dolphins!!
It's been a long time since I've been so happy to be a dolphins fan.
Love everything about this guy. Shula probably wouldn't have given him a job as a towel boy. I especially love that the interview was like an '80s GQ photo shoot. Everything was white and McDaniel was wearing linen from head to toe.
Love this guy. Rooting for him to win an sb.
Mike's a real one. Respect this dude.
This guy is an inspiration to everyone wow. I had no idea he had those struggles. I hope he will reach the big game and win it all. I'm a life long pats fan Miami got a jem in Mike MC
Him running full sprint to the locker room during halftime makes way more sense now
"To not exist for yourself is a beautiful thing" wow... that resonated.
A rare thing indeed when good nature and comedic sense meets with lethal competence.
Man so inspiring 😊
Rooting for my NY jets, and Mike McDaniel in this life
"Being a dad is very much like being a head coach In that you’re constantly concerned about the wellbeing of other people". Now that’s a TRUE LEADER right there. I don't follow the Dolphins, but now I see why that team have the potential to rise up.
I won’t claim I’m the best dad in the world, I do love my girl very hard. Whenever I see dads talk about being a dad it overwhelms me with joy. Good for him I wish him the best of luck in life
Okay...I live in Georgia so of course I knew and liked the Mike McDaniel of the Falcon's. To see how amazing his life is now, to see his compassion, for others and to exist for something larger than yourself ❤️❤️❤️. I'm ecstatic that he's in such a wonderful place. Go get 'em Mike!
As a recovering alcoholic myself, I resonate with Coach McDaniel's story. So happy that's he's sober! What a great coach as well, rooting for his success!
WOW! A great story…and beautiful family. 😊
Lmao "You know the date?"
MIKE: "Well because it was 860 something days since I was in the NFL.." completely lacking self-awareness that it's not only the date but he's counted the days...love coach and nice to have a solid leader after growing up w Shula.
I respect his grind and determination.
“I was technically coaching Jerry Rice” 😂😂😂😂 love it man lol
This resonated with me on so many levels. I always wanted to work on Wall Street and made it fairly young as well and was highly successful early on and am already in a supervisory role. I also remember specific dates from my life and accomplishments but also remember what day of the week it was too. For example I moved to the US March 17, 2015 and it was a Tuesday. I also struggle with impostor syndrome and use substances to cope and party with. I'm trying to get out of it, but it takes being comfortable in your own skin and really having confidence from competence to stop. I'm on my way, I know I'll be able to beat it, but just wanted to let anyone who's going through this know that it's ok, just keep pushing, it'll be alright if you just keep pushing.
I want a Lions v Dolphins Super Bowl. McDaniels and MCDC would steal the show.
I really wished Mike kicked that field goal against Denver for 73 points and the record. They blew off the hometown kid for HC interview and he still mercifully pulled his starters up 43 points.
If you think about it, if Brooks didnt have a blocker when he went down I think near the 30 or 20 yard line he would have broken the record.
He's childhood friend is my fav comedian
This is an awesome story and even as a rival fan I can’t help but root for him
*I love this, from a Michigan man, never quit*
I'm a believer in outlier exceptional humans. The more I learn about this guy, the more I believe this dude is one of those people.
Hat rizz goes crazy
his “a football life” will be awesome some day
I.adore.him.
God he's good. What a good man.
Love to hear his story.
I wanted him to be the chicago bears head coach, but he's probably going to be in Miami for awhile and that's good for him I'm glad he's killin it!
I’ll get sober because of Mike
My Boi basically sent his Mom! Str8 W 😂😂😂
Well damn now I want him to win a ring
I respect his personal accountability and levity in himself.
Shout out from the Ravens flock. What an interesting story and seems like a great dude.
Coach Spo in Miami Heat 💯
Coach Mike in Miami Dolphins 💯
Woah. I knew bits and pieces of this, but I sorta just thought he was a kinda goofy, seemingly thoughtful, smart coach. Did not know he struggled with addiction, did not know he'd been so shaped by that kind of experience. Not going for the record makes more sense now to me. A record isn't a championship and that game had already taught his players everything it needed to seems like a thought he could have had.
Been waiting for a Long-Term Coach since Shula retired and Mr. McDaniel, I believe you are him! Good luck Sunday Night and bring us Phin Fans another W!!
Man, love this 👌👌👌
Man...what a great man
I fuqn love this dude
im a bills fan but i absolutely love this guy
Then ur not a Bills fan. This guy is our new Bill Belichick
@@slimpaco you've lost the plot. My condolences.
@@401Impala naw that's you chief
@@slimpaco Nice one DIMpaco.
@@401Impala what did I even say that's so wrong?
Knowing his story it’s now obvious why he opted not to kick that FG at the end of the Broncos game.
What a great person.
didn’t even think of that until reading this, makes total sense
I love how Honest the new regime of Coaches are in the NFL. KOC in Minnesota is the same. Good luck Fins from a Vikings Fan!
49er fan here, amazing coach, I do think he will be a HOFer and it will be 49ers and Dolphins at the top for a long time.
the dolphins RBs would be 5th in the NFL in TDs with 19, if they were a team...
This dude is chill AF
Fascinating man and a great story.
im in tears
Excellent life lessons. Goals matter. Character trumps all.
as a niner, i miss this man so much he's such a goof at press conferences. Take care of him miami
As a 9ers fan losing McDaniels was one of the saddest days I’ve had to experience. He is a great offensive mind that deserved a chance to be a nfl coach.
11:00 - literally the same exact reason why Deion is coaching. He is being a father to a generation of kids that needs a strong male role model.
Such a beautiful story!
This dude is awesome!
Such an uncommon charisma! This guy would fall on a sword, so you wouldn’t have to. We loved him as a 49ers coach.
Thank God someone stole his hat! Lol 😊. I love that this video was only 11 minutes and not filled with a bunch of boring filler material. ❤
As a Broncos fan who grew up in Fort Collins getting autographs at training camp-it 😢me to see him coaching the Dolphins, because deep down he bleeds, orange and blue.. but I gotta root for him anyway!
I will always pull for Mike and whatever team he coaches I'm a die hard 49ers fan and watching his interviews with the niners I just found myself amazed by his knowledge of the game and he is comical love this guy I would tell everyone Kyle Shanahan isn't the genius to our offense it is Mike McDaniels I wish him the best and hope he wins multiple Superbowls just not against my 49ers 😂😅😂😅😅❤
The one and only Mac'coaching. Fins up!
Mom was the plug! Props to Mom.
I hope he’s our coach until he wants to retire. I believe all of the fans trust him❤️🐬
This man said L O L irl he is the guy
As a fan of the Lions, I love Dan Campbell so much
But Mike McDaniel is my favorite coach in the league
McDaniel is a great coach and he went out of his way to mention he’s proud to be a biracial American. We out here!
Look if my Denver Broncos were going to get steamrolled 70-20 I'd rather it be by this dude than anyone else.
Cute kid. Happy for this guy.
Im a patriots fan but a big fan of him
I love this dude
Nice to actually see a story with a happy ending
The love promoting him!
He is what the NFL needs.
Coach of the Year 🎉
