In my Gemini Jr. I began to use the Cuttlebug dies. Then my Friend went to a glass shop and had them cut for plates out of a sheet of Lexington. This works beautifully in the Gemini Junior with minimal warping.
Thank you for your helps. New to my Gemini, I was immediately disappointed in how quickly my plates and magnetic shim became completely distorted. Having thought for almost a year about it, I decided to buy a full set of plates / accessories for the Gemini Jr. to use in my Gemini. Most of my die cutting is with small dies, so why use big plates? Taped them together per Jennifer McGuire's advise, and they work so well, and have not warped yet.
Those A4 plates look interesting and worth getting. I actually bought a set of A5 Gemini plates (junior) and feed them in sideways. No warping and I can for most of my dies on them
Thank you very much for this demonstration. I have bought plates from Slipscreens in the past for both my Gemini and manual Big Shot. I have to say they are better than the plates supplied with either machine! So I would recommend them too. I have also found that the thin, rigid kitchen cutting mats (multicoloured) warp less than the official plastic shim supplied with the Gemini and will tolerate some die cutting too. I trim them to size with scissors. Although I really like the cutting power of the Gemini, I was incredibly disappointed that one of my plates cracked and split after just a few passes during the first two days!!! I was very careful to sandwich the plates as per the instruction booklet so wasn't expecting such a failure so soon! I shall stick with Slipscreens for replacements as and when and need them. I like the idea of using the A5 plates sideways and will be trying my Big Shot plates that way in the Gemini soon. Thank you again.
I purchased a set from Slipscreen which work great in my gemini. I got the junior version so I could put them in sidewards into my A4 machine. They are a great company with decent prices for replacement plates.
It's so simple. Just use your base plate and then an A4 self healing cutting mat that you'd use on your desk then the top plate. I get no warped plates and I cut into the cutting mat so nothing marks. Saves a fortune in plates
I love my Gemini but the plates warp so quickly. Doesn’t matter how many times you turn them either. I resorted to my A5 plates but will check out your alternative as my big dies won’t go through on a smaller plate. Thank you for sharing Ruth. XX 🥰💖🌈
FYI: I have been using my Crafters Companion and found my cover plate was warping badly. I turned my plates each time and still found them warping. So, I used my son's heat gun to warm the plate up a bit and that took the warp out easily. Just be careful not to burn your fingers with the gun. I also put a heavy book on top to smooth the plate out and let it cool. I have new plates!! Most of the cutting marks were also removed with this method. No mess. And no color change.
Thank you for this video, only had my Gemini a couple of days and all the plates have warped already! Was distraught that I had done something wrong but obviously not. Will order some new ones from the company you mentioned.
Awesome video, thank you!!! I was looking at buying A4 size machine for larger dies and really set my eye on Gemini (rather than Big Shot Plus), and then I started to read all reviews about it...oh...and warping of plates... but now I watched your video I can really go for Gemini! Already ordered plates you've suggested! Looks like you did find a great solution! Thank you so much again for your very informative video! It will help a lot of people out there! Because it's a shame that machine itself is great but plates..not so much.
TFS I'm going to get some of those thank you .......do u have a hack from not getting imprints from the previous dies cutting lines? I've had problems if i use a die with a bit of blank space getting imprints from my plate from previous cuts 🙄 xx
Kims Crafts I’ve heard other people say to put a piece of paper on top of the one you are cutting to avoid that. I’ve not had it with the plates I’m using at the moment but could be because they aren’t as badly used yet! X

For die cutting ONLY, on my Gemini Jr, I use two 5mm (same as .5 centimeter) clear plates, and nothing else. Definitely off warranty for the machine but I'm so over warped plates that it doesn't matter to me. I buy them through EBay. Most of the companies that sell them sell both 3mm and 5mm so you have to be sure and select the correct size. No problems, so far, and no warped plates to deal with.
Thank you so much for the great video, I have ordered a new set of plates from Slipscreen which should make Christmas crafting a whole lot easier, ha,ha.

Mr coastal crafts used to flatten mine out too - I think he used a heat tool and clamps? But after a few weeks they would warp again so I got fed up! X
BEWARE!! They don't have 800 NUMBER. If you need to contact them you have to go through email and they are not helpful. Save your money and look elsewhere. I'm stuck with this stupid warped plates from Gemini II even though I followed the instructions. smh.

That’s good, I was thinking of getting some smaller plates for quick cuts x

Sally Healey I was surprised they didn’t bend at all like the Gemini ones! I will probably get some junior ones too for cutting small dies x

I tried that but it didn’t cut well! X
@@coastalcrafts2350 You can add card stock as shims, and find the right sandwich for your machine. Good luck!

I love my Gemini too!! It’s the only machine I’ve had that cuts intricate dies without an issue x

Fab, will try this with my heat gun. Thank you for sharing XX 🌈💖🥰
Hello there! Thank you for this video... I am wondering how they are working now, 2 years later? Or is there anything better at this point? Thank you!
The link of your new cuttingplates does not work anymore, do you have a new link?
So funny when I tripped - glad not only me that has struggles😀😀😀😀
Magic Matt's are an absolute life changer

I’m still using mine and work well x

I’ve been using those plates for ages now and no complaints at all!
@@coastalcrafts2350 thank you so much again!!! 😊👍

@@Weasel0539 thanks for the tip I'll have to get a A4 cutting mat and try that xx

Has made my life easier! X
A tip : watch movies on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Alexis Benson yea, I have been using flixzone for months myself =)
Hey hun, hope you're well. I love my gemini 💜 I hate how much they warp. Will have to check out the link, thanks x

I haven’t used official Gemini plates in ages and I’d never go back!
@@coastalcrafts2350 may I ask you... are you still using these plates? And how long did they last you? Thank you!
Thank you.
Have you ever tried the self healing cutting mats? Several people use them and I believe they buy them on amazon
NewCrafterBev I use one in my big shot but it wasn’t the right thickness for my Gemini! X
I got a self-healing mat. It warped too.

Ah yes Christmas crafting time is busy for the die cut machine!

I suggest if you're going to make a video take the time to do it over when you screw up
I had plates I was ready to toss.... then I baked them! Check out my RUclips video about my experience fixing my plates! Search my name. Thanks!

Use a cut mat
They warp unfortunately which is what I was trying to avoid. They are good in manual cutting machines though x

You can’t make these videos one-handed prop up your phone or camera anyway you can
Just get a tripod for your phone.
